In 1999 a few of my friends at Georgia Tech got this guy to come and talk. If I remember correctly, he got highly irritated when he failed to convince us.
OK, and when was the last time you were able to resume an HTTP transfer? Just because an RFC specifies a feature doesn't mean anyone is going to implement it (even if they should).
Altera has a student program where you can get the UP1 board with a Altera Max and Altera Flex FPGA. The board and the book "Rapid Prototyping of Digital Design" by James O. Hamblin and Michael D. Furman. Info can be found at http://www.altera.com/education/univ/kits/unv-kits.html. The kit costs about $150(US).
Gee since It's half the price of the PC you are pricing, I WOULD consider that a great reason to buy an XBOX. Also, with the XBox media player you can watch SVCD/VCD/DIVX, etc. Try building a computer with TV out that will do that for any where near $200.
Do you remember these? They are the red circular toys that have a ring of animals or whatever around the front with an arrow that points to one of the sounds. When you pull the lever you get the sound of the animal (or whatever) the arrow is pointing to. They had little phonographs inside so they didn't require batteries and you could do slow down or speed up the recorded sound.
Well I wsa shopping for my young daughter the other day and was saddened to find that the phonograph had been replaced with a chip and the sounds were distorted to sound somewhat like the original. They still have levers but they serve no purpose other than spinning the arrow around and pressing the button inside that plays the sound.
Anyway, the point is that if you didn't press the handle down all the way, the internal button wouldn't get despressed and no sound would come out. I let my two year old daughter try it out and she couldn't get it to make a sound, only to spin.
Anyway, I know this is slightly offtopic, but it's related to the parent post.
Why not try an emulator instead. I tried the VisualBoy Advance because I got tired of squinting to play Zelda. All the games I have tried thus far work perfectly. Also, they have a Linux and OSX version in addition to Windows.
So the RIAA was lying to us all those years when all CDs used to claim that "this compact disc offers the best possible sound reproduction on a small convienient disc". Granted, most of us realized this was a load of crap but now it seems that they are admitting to this as well.
There is no copy of this movie on IRC. There is no copy of this movie on Usenet. There is no copy listed on vcdquality.com. I seriously doubt that there is a copy on p2p since movies are always released to IRC or Usenet first. Besides the fact that the movie isn't done yet.
They are probably just getting this confused with the clip about the Two Towers that is available on the Fellowship DVD.
Or maybe many people in the US are just too stupid/misinformed to realize the oppression until they are held for months in jail without ever being charged with a crime.
The article has nothing to do with the amount of fossil fuels we will have in the future. Like you said, many, if not most, scientist's don't see us running out of fossil fuels any time soon, however, this is part of the problem. The large supply of these fuels will only help to accelerate the rate at which the environment is affected. Oh yeah, the article is about the human impact on wildlife, hence the WWF. It is hard to doubt that the numbers of certain species are dropping. There are many people here whom would like to avoid the real questions such as what do we really want panda bears and fresh water fish or cheaper consumer goods and bigger engines.
Why don't they just limit the traffic on the router on the providers end of the cable? Or is the problem just between users sharing the same actual cable line?
If ad-aware is run with any new versions of kazaa installed, it will remove a certain.dll file that kazaa requires. Kazaa will give a error message that says a required.dll was not found and wont run. Of course this.dll is only part of the adware/spyware and is not really needed. Kazaa-lite replaces this.dll with a dummy file so it will still run.
"I haven't personally used a DVD-Burner yet, but I would assume that it's just as simple now to copy a DVD as it has been to copy a music CD for the past few years."
Not nearly. Recordable DVDs only hold about 4.7 GB of data. Most movies that come out are at least 6 gigs, so a direct copy is not possible right now.
Moreover, this is probably the only thing stopping wide spread DVD copying. CSS and Macrovision become irrelevent when someone can just copy and burn a disk image.

Can't wait so spend a whole 9 hours watching for the full DVD release of LOTR!
So exactly how is this different from a moped? 80 mi/gal for a moped is not that impressive.

I would hope they would be supporting our right to copy information that is made public. Is their position really that ambiguous?

Nah, most files on fservers are 10-20MB. Most mp3s are between 1 and 6 MB, however. =)

Does anyone think this will have the slightest impact on the amount of spam they receive?

Maybe I am remembering bubble bobble incorrectly but Snood seems to be the exact same game to me. Am I missing some sublety or am I just crazy?

How is this worse than a popup ad that doesn't require you to do anything at all? Am I missing something?

Until they could get the rights.
I don't see Moore's law holding up for much longer.

Go to sleep for gosh sakes. You've been posting since Noon yesterday.
Now I'll have to worry about my computer overheating when I forget to check the water.
