I am trying to recruit experienced J2EE developers. Most applicants cannot even answer the question, "What are the different types of EJBs and one example of a use for each one?"
How much do I need to offer for someone who can answer basic questions like that? I can't seem to find someone at any price.
One of my favorite interviews had this gem: Me: What are some differences between Java and C++? (He claimed expert-level skills in both on his resume) Him: Java is a dumbed-down C++.
Me: Well, we all have our opinions. Would you care to elaborate on your answer from a technical perspective? Him: Oh, c'mon. It's just common knowledge. Me: I'm going to suggest that you not give that answer if you ever decide to interview for a Java position in the future. I've really enjoyed speaking with you for these last 4 minutes. Have a nice day.
I can think of about a dozen right answers to that question. I wasn't even sure that there was a wrong answer until he gave me that one. Who cares about memory mangament? Who cares about virtual machines? Who cares about platform independence? Who cares about pointers? Who cares about bounds checking? Not when we have "Java is a dumbed-down C++".
Are you trying to tell me that an Object-Oriented language is 95% similar to a procedural language?
I'd say C and C++ are about 10% similar. That 10% is for the similar syntax. C and C++ are also about 10% similar to Java, in my opinion (because of the syntax).
Why would a company fire a perfectly good employee over sexual preference? I am a landlord, and in my state I can legally discriminate against gays, but why would I reject or evict a perfectly good tenant just because he or she is gay?
That makes no sense. There has got to be a better reason (layoffs? poor performance?) that you were fired.
As a landlord, I have rejected more applicants than I can count who are protected by fair housing laws. I have minimum acceptance standards, and if you don't meet 'em, you're rejected.
It doesn't matter what sex/color/religion/whatever the rejectee is. As long as you document why you rejected him/her and document what your standards are, you've got the paper trail to defend yourself.
Your old company should have written her up a few times and then fired her ass for cause. Cost too much to defend against a lawsuit? Well, how much were they paying this woman to sit around and sell Amway?
Because the Unided States FAA does not restrict any PEDs at all on private aircraft operating under VFR. The actual regulations at 14 CFR 91.21, 121.306 and 135.144 prohibit the operation of any electronic device (with a few exceptions for things like pacemakers) unless the airline determines that the device will not cause interference.
In 1993, the FAA published an Advisory Circular (AC) 91.21-1 that recommended PEDs be prohibited during takeoff and landing below 10,000 feet, but there is no actual regulation to this effect.
Regarding the original poster's question, you need to ask your airline for permission to use it (bluetooth). The FAA regs place the burden on the airline to make the call as to whether or not a device is safe.
No, it comes to the house as fiber and there is a box on the back of my house that replaces the old demarc for the copper phone line.
From there, the signal is converted to copper. In other words, you won't have to rewire your house.
There is no copper wire connection to my house anymore. It was cut, and there was a bunch of wire in my garden (they only cut it about 1' away from the house). So I snipped the wire where it came out of the ground and covered it with mulch. Problem solved.
Posession of any amount of Adderall is a felony. I shit you not.
Adderall is an AMPHETAMINE! You're goddamn right possession is a felony! What did you expect? Did you not even research what you were putting into your body without the advice and supervision of a physician?
And where did you get amphetamines without a prescription?
Look, I sympathize with you for what you had to go through. It's obvious that you need the meds since you eventually got a script. I'm glad you were able to get things more-or-less worked out with the legal system, but what you did was extremely stupid. Taking a amphetamines without the advice and supervision of a doctor was dangerous to your health and, as I'm sure you know, highly illegal.
As a rental property owner, I have a particular problem with amphetamines because I've seen what someone on meth can do to a property. I've seen what is involved in the extremely costly cleanup from a meth lab (I realize you weren't cooking, but I just wanted to help you understand where I'm coming from). Fortunately for you not all landlords will do a criminal background check. But given how much damage a meth addict can do, you can guess what an amphetamine conviction on your record will do to your application if the LL runs a criminal report.
Anyhow, I just want to say that I fully support drug-control after seeing firsthand what drug addicts can do. I'm sorry you got caught up in it for (mostly) innocent reasons, but drug abuse is NOT a victimless crime.
I like ads that are relevant to me and offer me something that I want. For example, if I am at a webhosting discussion forum and there is a banner ad for a great deal on web hosting, I'm happy to see it.
What I do not like, however, are the gimmicky ads (punch the monkey, shoot the donkey, etc), and ads that catch the eye too much (blinky ads, HTML divs that cover the whole page and make you hit close, etc).
When I contemplated installing adblock, I was actually concerned that I would miss ads for things that I cared about. Ultimately I installed it, because I just can't stand those DIVs flying all over the browser window and blinky flash ads that I can't stop just by hitting ESC.
Browsing with adblock is a refreshing experience, I must say.
Your landlord example is almost correct and totally irrelevant.
Why is it irrelevant? A property owner has many rights, one of which is the right of occupancy of his property. When I lease a property to a tenant, I am transferring my owner's right of occupancy from me to the tenant for a period of time in exchange for compensation. Sure, I may own the building, but I can't just go in, sit on his couch, and start watching TV. Similarly, I cannot just go up to one of my tenants and say, "Get the fuck off my property." Sure, I own it, but he currently enjoys my owner's right of occupancy! If I want it back, I have to go to court and get it through a process called eviction.
I think you can agree that when you wander into The Gap, you do NOT have the owner's right of occupancy. In reality, you are given a license to enter the property by The Gap's management similarly to if you invited someone over to dinner in your house. That license can be revoked at any time. If The Gap management says to get out, you had better get out or you are trespassing. Same with your now disinvited dinner guest. If you say get out, he better leave.
Grandparent was right when he said that if you are on his property you can either follow his rules or leave. There are certain restrictions placed on certain types of businesses, but if The Gap kicks you out of their store, you two choices: leave not wearing handcuffs, leave wearing handcuffs.
I've had a bitter ex-g/f post intimate personal e-mails on her blog from the time we were going out, and with a large dose of editing, taking out of context, and outright lies thrown in for good measure. She knew damn well that several close friends of mine also read that blog, and would think less of me after reading what she wrote (or her adapted version of what I had once written).
I would hope that your friends would think less of her for doing that, not less of you. If not, you need smarter friends.
are already out there. 15 seconds of research makes me 35% confident that you, bonch, live in Aurora, CO (I'm not going to copy-paste the full address, though I'm sure any idiot on/. could get it).
I already know that my name and address and phone number are out there, and I've already had my identity stolen twice (wonder if I ever even got it back?:-\).

Speaking last month at the invitation of the European Telecommunications Network Operators' Association (ETNO) , the head of the IFPI, John Kennedy, said: "Quality digital content is a key driver that makes consumers embrace new services. You invest billions in your pipes and cables and satellites but without content you have empty pipes and boxes. At this stage I am not even asking for much if anything by way of a financial commitment. I am asking for your time your energy your commitment and some social responsibility."
No, actually, all I want from my ISP is a pipe. I can decide what to fill it with. My ISP can offer as many "value add" features as they want, but I will not pay for them.

This is not an example of the US being puritanical. This is the US agreeing with many other cultures that the movie was inappropriate for 13-year-olds.
And I never ask for work samples when I interview. I just ask many detailed questions and if the applicant can provide answers that aren't total gibberish, then as far as I am concerned, the applicant did the work.
How much do I need to offer for someone who can answer basic questions like that? I can't seem to find someone at any price.

Do you know if it's possible to get FIOS without a phone line? I have FIOS, but I have not yet tried to ditch my Verizon phone service.
I just use my wrt54g, and it works like a charm.
