I think that visually it's stunning, in the same way I found DS9 beautiful: It portrays technology without an overabundance of overly shiny things. Things that almost look real, a nice turn from the bright and shiny (for the 30 minutes of each episode it wasn't shot to hell) Voyager, and an interesting contradiction to the apparent technological backwardness of TOS. (Which I've been able to explain away. The TOS takes place during a time in when the humans, confident in the toys it's been playing with for the last 150 years can manage themselves, allow for more computer control than at any other time depicted. Of course, they turned back towards more fine control placed back in the hands of the crew after a period of time...)

It is true that FSF withdraw[1] ispell 4.0 as soon as ispell 3.x was released under a free software license. I think that makes it pretty clear that the action was in defence for free software, not an attempt to increase their control.

Doesn't the fact that they withdrew 4.0 as soon as 3.x was released makes it about nothing BUT control? RMS/FSF wanted ispell (a popular program!) released under a license that pleases them because of vanity and control. When the current author of the program doesn't go along easily, they come out with their own incompatible version.

Extend and embrace, Chairman RMS style.

Just curious. My cable provider upgraded it's adapters several times in the first year of service threatening huge charges if the old hardware wasn't returned. When I went to the office to turn it in and asked what was happening to my old adapter they said "Oh, it will be destroyed."

Dianetics does quite well at book stores too, year after year. I'm told by one of my friends who used to work at a book store that they'd recieve supposedly 'new' copies of it with sales receipts inside them. 21. Re:eFront wanted to buy my website on eFront From Inside · · Score: 1

Thankfully, eFront never approached me, but another network that though buying up/partnering with lame blog sites such as mine was a good idea did early in the life cycle of my site.

The concessions they wanted in order to provide me with a trickle they called 'revenue' were unbelievable.

Do you love your site and care about it not becoming something you can't control or can't control? Don't sell out. It's as simple as that. If the hosting gets out of control, do what you can to provide an income source, but don't sell out.

The entire advertising revenue model is fairly flawed right now anyway, as sites who partnered or sold their sites to networks such as eFront found out.
