    How about You just leave out the anti-whatever E-mail?

    And dont bombard him, bombarding someone just ensures that they take shelter from your bombardment.

    Instead, try and educate the man. present an UNBIASED viewpoint and use FACTS.
    if you flood the man with propoganda, he's just going to run to the MPAA/RIAA money even faster.

    Tell His constituents what he's doing, and EDUCATE THEM!

    Take an inteligent aproach, and he MIGHT listen to you.

    And for you residents of Oregon, Call His office, send him mail (NOT E-mail), Tell him what you think of his actions, and be sure your vote reflects your opinion the next time he comes up for election.

    Act like a freak/fanatic, and he will respond to you accordingly.

    Act like an inteligent person, and he might actually listen to you.

    Is for someone with a bit of cash to get all of this old hardware collected together, and start building a beawulf cluster of massive proportions. Seriously. Even older p100's and such could contribute cycles to the monster machine. I figure that with a year's worth of colecting older and discarded pc's, you'd have the largest collection of proccessing power in the world...

    And if people would actually ship the hardware in, it'd probably be the cheapest as well...

    Call it the Green Resurection.

    I'll co-ordinate the building of the monster, if someone will donate space and operating capital...

    Seattle trafic is why I moves back to SoCal.

    LA trafic jams may be legendary, but seattle beats 'em. EVERY DAY.

    But if they actually build the monorail to cover the major comute coridors, it might actually reduce some freeway trafic, but I'm not holding My breath.

    If they actually get it built, I'll come back up there for a visit and a ride. but I seriously think that the concept is a touch flawed...

    Hell, you've probably even seen His banner add here on slashdot.

    Piro Recently made the decision to got 100% FT on making His webcomic work, and has a dead tree version coming out this december. It seems to Me that He's doing reasonably well with making a free comic pay for itself, and possibly even put some money in His pocket....

    Not to piss on rocketbox, but Piro's doing good, and I dont see anything but vaporware promises from rocketbox yet...

    Dont get Me wrong, I read some of their comics daily, But this also means that I've been hearing about rocketBox for three months....

    Sure. But if they attach 32 magnets to the underside of your car, and limit the sensor threshhold, it's not going to matter who is in the car with you...

    As for the powerful magnet, Yes, it might work, but unless it varied it's strength and alignment on a rather random basis, it would just give them an even more distinct signature to track, and passing a toll-gate, or even a disguised checkpoint with a camera would be enough to tie the altered magnetic signature to the liscense plate.

    and even a totaly random sig would only make it slightly more dificult to track you. they'd just have to track the data anomaly that it would produce. the only solution would be to have everyone masking their magnetic signature... and I'm sure that they'll figure ways to beat that too. Probably just make it illeagal and slap heavy fines on anyone caught doing it.

    call me un-american if you want, but I dont have a cell phone... Nor do I have a pager, PDA, or any other electronic item on My person... I dont even wear a watch....

    IF some employer needs to get in touch with Me bad enough that I would need a cell phone, THEY can provide it. and it will still stay off most of the time...

    I prefer My peace and privacy, and I consider most of those devices an intrusion into what little I am able to achieve.

    a very MINOR operation by the car manufacturers could give each automobile a distinct magnetic signature, similar to a magnetic VIN. I dont think I'd want them able to track My driving habits...

    Back in the sixties, he wrote about this concept in enough detail (including the linear induction motors), that any decent engineer with a good budget could build one.
    so if anyone tries to patent it, I can show prior art...

    Otherwise, its a great idea, and I'd love to take a ride... if they ever actually build it.

    turn that around, and you get:

    You pay more for it, so it MUST be worth more....

    with that logic, paying the actual window-sticker price at the car dealership would actualy improve the value, quality and reliability of the car....NOT....

    when will they get a clue, and face reality?? Linux is here to stay. Yeah, there's lots of flavors/distro's, but every distro exists because someone wanted it, not because of some massive scism in the development comunity. Mandrake is great for some things, and My old slakware box is still chugging away (1100+ days uptime!), and they BOTH talk to My win2k box, and they all share a network connection.

    GET A CLUE BALMER! win2k was a decent try, winXP sucks. Give us useable and stable over flash and candy. Show Me a windows box with HALF the uptime of My slakware box, and I'll show you a machine that's been hung a year without no-one noticing....

    Looking at that microsoft comparison page, its amazing how most of the Linux features and such that they chose to dog on, are the ones that were implemented in order to be compatible with M$ operating systems...

    and they compare web servers on `SIMILAR' hardware... I'd love to see the test on identical hardware...

    My p2-300 is SIMILAR to a p3-900... but they aint the same critter...

    Among other things, it made them MUCH more security concious, and windows has been improving over the years... Hell, win2k is actually usable... to bad I cant say the same for XP...

    I'd LOVE to ditch My windows machine completely, but, dammit, where are the Linux games??

    I downloaded the software, tried it out, and after two minutes, I'm impressed. MUCH easier to use that I thought that it would be, It almost seems to be reading My mind, as to what I want to say...

    While it could still use a bit of work, overall it is an incredible new paridgm in the way that text-entry can happen. palm-top users are going to fall in love with it's ease of use, I predict.

    A more `finished' version would be nice for the desktop users, perhaps allowing it to reside in a side window tray that scrolled out when selected, and did the text entry in whatever text box has the edit focus. Add that, and it will become a permanent addition to My desktop's.

    Kudos to David MacKay and his crew for creating something unique and new, and actually enhancing the user interface at the same time.
