No credit companies are getting tired of Joe Asshole getting his rocks off at porn sites then calling the CC company when the bill comes claiming he didn't go there.
So was Yahoo until people got tired of taking naps while it rendered. Things change on the Internet. Digital word of mouth spreads quickly. Look at Firefox. It didn't get much press until recently and it's constantly getting more share. If Google starts to suck and some other SE shows improvement, it won't take long for people to change.
Funny you mention that because just the other day I got a scam email posing as Citibank. About 30 seconds later, I got one from some local bank in North Carolina. I guess they are trying to cover all the bases.
I believe I understood it completely. You believe that it will never reach critical mass and want to use artifical methods to induce it. I believe that demand will eventually push it.
OK, so if there isn't a problem in Asia, what's the rush?
I don't understand the rush for so many here to move. Unless you do live in SE Asia, then IPv6 isn't really necessary. Yes NAT can be a pain in the ass, but it is serving its purpose fairly well.
IPv6 will take over just like anything else. When it reaches critical mass and demand forces it. Probably starting in SE Asia and moving westward.
I'm sorry, but this guy is why so many companies look no further than 3 months and continuely fail. Because people like him want instant payback, company be damned.
Too many people are treating the stock market like a damn lottery, were they buy in, expect to hit it, then sell the stock in a year or so. The market doesn't normally work like that.
I followed the same path. I worked for a smaller company($150M sales) and while I didn't know everyone, the IT dept was fairly close. We had a dept golf outing a couple times, or some of us had a couple after work.
It sounds like people you worked with either weren't worth being friends with or you were too busy being anti-social.
Now that I work from home, I admit I enjoy the lax attitude I can take at home, but I do miss sometimes the comrodary(sp?) of working with people you like.
I'd say the majority of people with DSL/Cable in the US have user agreements stating no servers. Certainly this is a simple one, but a server nevertheless. Also, I venture a guess that most people have no clue how to set up their firewall to accept incoming sessions.
As more and more home appliances become Internet accessible, it will be interesting to see how things like this take hold.
Seen the trade deficit lately? Every month it sets a new record. Not really a good position to be setting trade policies on those that the US trades with. They will and have returned the favor.
Besides most of the time trade restrictions only work on the symptom. Higher salaries are only part of the equation. Like others have said, rising insurance, overburdening govt regulation/restrictions add much to the cost of many items.
It it so John and Jane Doe can treat themselves and tell the doctor what they need. Americans seemed to think pills cure everything. I've read countless articles about doctors who have had patients walk in the door telling them what they need.
The doctors and nurses are the only people who need to know what drugs are available. It's their job.
I remember watching a 'making of' show about the first Shrek movie and they said they purposely made the girl less human-like for the same reason. That she got to a point were it was freaky to have her look that human.
The whole point of VOIP is not having two separate lines. But when we looked at doing at our company, the undertaking to prepare the data network(upgrading cabling, tweaking or turning on QOS on routers, etc) it became more work than what VOIP was advertised to solved.
And truthfully, many companies I talked to who converted to it haven't been all that thrilled with the results so far. It's either been flaky or was so expensive that it didn't justice the cost.
I happen to think this is a good thing

If you felt strongly enough to post your opinion to the world then I see no reason why it shouldn't be brought up later. Posting to/. or usenet is no different then stepping up to microphone in a crowded room. People will hear you.
Of course we all have said things we regret, too many people spout off when they shouldn't. But your example of political races would prove interesting to me. If candidate X posted feelings one way on an issue 5 years ago and is now campaigning the other way, I'd certainly like to know why.
Billy is jumping around in his underwear screaming, "Thank you Steve!"
You forgot Microsoft basically propped Apple up when it was on it's deathbed. Apple will always be a niche product. But enough so that there is a choice and Microsoft can always say they don't have a monopoly.

It personalizes the articles you get based on the past article you clicked on. Pretty cool and useful.

Looking at Linksys's site, anyone think it looks like that Ion air machine from sharper image?

crap. Totally forgot about proxies. You're right.
The only downside would be dynamic addresses, but we aren't talking about amazon.com where they gets millions of visitors either.

Those cards were the best thing ever. They simply worked in everything. I loved them.
I don't hear a big cry about networks like USA and FX editing movies. What's the difference?
I've got 2 17" Dell LCDs hooked to a Quadro NVS card. I've played UT, Madden and Civ3 and it works fine.
...and you rented your phone. The raping of consumers had to go somewhere.
I would but the semis keep blowing me over.
You also forget that in the store it print beautiful sample pages, but once you buy it and bring it home, it will barely ever put out anything.
