Good point! Silly Slashdot. We need MORE spam, not less! Maybe that's Bush's big jobs program - a quarter of America will be employed sending spam, and the rest will work on ways to block it.
Actually, the first time I read it, I thought they were talking about Canada. "OK boys, we've given you plenty of dough, but this 'hax-a-thing' you're planning will make you increasingly capable, and we can't have that. Sorry."
Right, excellent point. It would make sense if he were the only one working on it. You think he mails these CDs one-by-one out of his mansion deep in the bowels of Calgary, or what?
There have been varying reports, some good, some not quite as impressive, although still +1, Informative. For your reading pleasure, I've put together some of the most promising ones: here, here, here, not here, and here.
Also, you can read the RFC in various places, including: here, here, or here.
Well, I called, and when they wanted to know where to send it, I gave them my @fuckmicrosoft.com address. She kind of muttered something, and I still haven't gotten any mail from them. How long does this usually take?
i can't speak for your experience, but i`m not aware that Stones albums were particularly well recorded (compared to classical for example)...so perhaps that disk has a really good sacd transfer and a shitty cd one.
Could be. I'd check out something like Metallica's Black Album, which got released on DVD Audio (among others). It sounds good on CD, but it sounds awesome with a full mix. Noticeably better. It matters a lot what you start with - you're not going to be too amazed by the crystal-clear 7.2 sound of those remastered Ledbelly recordings for instance.
That's an insightful comment for about two seconds. Who's going to convince people that these are the only guns you can use? It's like passing escrow laws and assuming those wacky terrorists will update all their commercial software to the latest versions. Good luck getting the NRA to even think about supporting something like this.
10) Åccented Letters: Use accented characters on variable names. E.g.
typedef struct { int i; } ínt;
where the second ínt's í is actually i-acute. With only a simple text editor, it's nearly impossible to distinguish the slant of the accent mark.
and:
15) Names From Other Languages: Use foreign language dictionaries as a source for variable names. For example, use the German punkt for point. Maintenance coders, without your firm grasp of German, will enjoy the multicultural experience of deciphering the meaning.
Yes, its called "see it in context". its already a feature.
Well, assuming you'd see it at the exact time it was moderated, I'd agree with you. But you don't. It could be at -1 by the time you look at it. See what I'm saying? A post is funny, or it's not, at any particular time, but a mod of 'underrated' only applies to a specific score of a post, which you don't see when you click on "see in context."
The problem with over- and underrated in M2 is that they indicate a comment on the score of the post, not the content. When you meta-moderate, you're judging the mods as they relate to the content - this post was funny, the mod was "+1, Funny," OK, fair. In order to M2 an 'overrated' post, you'd have to know what the score was at the time of the moderation, e.g. X post was marked overrated, and at the time was modded +5 funny, so it was funny, but it wasn't that funny. And good luck on getting half a million geeks to agree on how funny a beowulf cluster of hot Soviet Russia grits is (pretty funny).
The Security Administrator's Tool for Analyzing Networks. I got a good deal on a copy of O'Reilly's Protecting Networks with SATAN, which gives me a laugh every time I see it.
I get your point. Re-read the parent. I'm not arguing anything about finances, I'm saying they're pissing people off who order a box set online, and then wait for months while nothing shows up. That's what I mean when I say "distribution problems." Financially, it's a great idea - take peoples' money, and don't give them anything.
Bad choice of words. To clarify, with no distribution problems, I meant 'distribution' as the process of getting box sets into buyers' hands, rather than Red Hat/Mandrake/Gentoo as a distribution. And while financially it may not affect them (since the sets have been paid for), it's certainly turning into a reputation where people may be reluctant about sending them money.
(It's true! Pity I don't have a link)
I do.
(Also see Google.)
You have narfing-irons? In stock?! For thirty-five bucks a pair?!! Where do I sign up?

Mandrake has one.
Or become a pimp, and get hundreds of dollar every night / ho!
<sigh> Subject jokes.

Duh, it's a make-work project. Obviously you've never worked for the government.

What kind of self-respecting slashdotter goes outside, let alone to the beach? My monitor tan is going along quite nicely, thank you very much.
Well what the hell are you doing posting on Slashdot? They started the war without you, dude! Hurry up!
Yeesh, some militaries...

No way! Don't even joke about it, or the NFRC will be coming after YOU!
Go back to a C64. That's cool. And retro! You could run a PC emulator on it, and play Doom 3 or whatever when you're bored of Millipede.
Which is only ~3% desert anyway.
Last I used Mandrake (it was awhile ago), there was an auto-login feature.
Yeah, but it's off by default, and they warn you that it can be a Bad Idea before you're allowed to enable it.
Then why do they charge $120 for existing users (owners) to upgrade to each new point release for OSX?
Because you'll buy it.
