Pandora is precisely what I tried because everyone recommended it. I didn't like what they were playing, and it was both highly annoying to have to reach over to 'skip' things, and it only let me skip so much. After not too long of that nonsense I decided I didn't like it and killed it. I do not have or WANT a smartphone and do not have or want internet in my pickup and I do not like these streaming services, so I don't kinow what it is you think you can do to 'convince' me I'm wrong. I like broadcast FM radio just fine, I can channel surf around commercials, or just turn the volume down for a few minutes if I can't find something I like. If I'm somewhere there are no good stations to listen to I'll bring my own music and listen to that, or just drive in silence. I do not like or want 'streaming' services, I think they suck ass and want nothing to do with them, I don't see how anyone can think they're any better than broadcast radio. Honestly I think you're all fools for paying for any of that; you pay for internet, you pay for streaming, and you PAY and PAY and PAY ad infinitum. Why not just buy music you like and listen to that if you're so picky about what you listen to? How is having some algorithm on some shitty 'streaming' service choose what you're hearing any different than a DJ at a radio station picking from a program directors' playlist? Spoiler: It's not any different, somehow you've been convinced that it is and they take your money. I can ignore commercials on the radio, can you ignore money disappearing out of your bank account every month? Doesn't matter how much it is you're still paying MONEY to be fed not much different than a radio station will feed you. Honestly, seriously, I think it's rather dumb.
Internet radio, like we had about 10 years ago wasn't bad, it was more or less like broadcast radio, and I actually used it. But the RIAA destroyed that forever, then brought in their shitty 'streaming' services. it's not anywhere near the same thing, as I've said I tried it and I thought it sucked. Also as I've already said if they killed broadcast FM radio, there's no way I'd pay for their shitty streaming services, I'd either drive around in silence or bring my own music and screw them. 'Newer' isn't always 'better' and Millennials who don't know how to read an analog clock face and are convinced that if something isn't digital and internet-connected then it must be 'for old people' and 'old fashioned' and 'stupid' are the ones who are actually stupid so far as I'm concerned.
No direct cost to user (data costs money for many).
That's the dealbreaker. The problem with 'streaming' anything, is that it COSTS, COSTS, COSTS. You're paying for the connection. You're paying for the streaming service -- or you're taking an inferior streaming product for free. It's all a deal-breaker for me; I don't want to pay for ANY of it. I LIKE BROADCAST RADIO. It would sadden me greatly for it to go away -- but I would NOT pay for streaming digital anything. I'd sooner drive in silence, or bring my own music. I'm getting sick and bloody well tired of everything being monetized to death, by the way.
'Voice assistants'. 'Smart TV'. 'Smart appliances'. 'Internet of Things'. Nope, nope, nope. Do not want. Not for any price, not even free.
Luckily for me, there will always be a market for inexpensive, simple, functional appliances, so I'll never have to worry about any of that nonsense.
Where, other than you addled brain, did you get the idea that when they said 'carbs' they meant ONLY 'SUGAR'? They didn't. You, and way too many other humans on this gods-be-damned planet, are getting DUMBER by the day. They meant ALL CARBS FROM ALL SOURCES. Fucking get it right.
Sadly these are not trolls, there are actual people living in the U.S. who don't seem to value that they live somewhere where they're not only allowed but encouraged to speak their minds about how things are done. By the way if that attitude from people doesn't piss you off too then I'm telling you: it should. BTW I was never AC or even meant to be.
I spoke my mind, which is more than that little coward did. What do you expect me to do? Grab a shotgun and turn Ajit Pai's head into a fine red mist, in the name of Freedom or something? I'm also encouraging cowards like that guy (you?) to STOP BEING COWARDS AND STAND UP FOR WHAT YOU THINK IS RIGHT. That's what you do, that's where it starts, with TALKING TO PEOPLE and SPEAKING YOUR MIND. If you can't fucking be bothered to even do THAT MUCH then you are part of the problem.
You're kind of missing the point. Take away the lure of getting rich in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, at least if you're a businessperson. Any profits go back into the organization, to improve quality of care, lower prices, and of course into research into curing the next thing.
Massive campaign reforms, for one.
Voting out politicians who clearly don't have the American people's best interests at heart for another.
Shotguns loaded with rolls of dimes, and guillotines, if necessary.
Fucking cowards like you make me sick. Yellow-bellied cowards like you don't deserve to live in the United States, why don't you renounce your citizenship and go live in China or something, since you seem to have no use for CHOICE in how things are where you live. Then we can give your job to someone who actually deserves to live here, who appreciates the right to actually speak up about things that matter and expects something to be done about it.
I'm currently subjected to having Comcast. If they start that bullshit of which you speak, I'll be hastily looking for a different ISP, and I'll be damned well telling them exactly WHY I'm dumping them, when I go in person to their customer service office with the cable modem in hand, demanding a receipt showing I returned it, and paperwork showing I no longer do business with them.
This has nothing to do with the size of government. It has EVERYTHING to do with corrupt governments full of corporate cronies prioritizing the rights of big business over the rights and needs of citizens. Corporations like Verizon, AT&T, and Comcast/Xfinity should not be allowed to exclude people from doing precisely what these people are doing -- which is exactly what will happen, just as soon as one of them decides they're an untapped revenue stream. Most likely they'll wait until they have installed a sizeable internet infrastructure, then come in with a team of lawyers, sue the shit out of them, bankrupt them all just because they can, then scoop up everything they worked so hard to build for pennies on the dollar -- then sell the 'service' back to them for inflated prices and with a lower quality of service than they were getting on their own. Instead of running around preaching how we need to chop down the entire tree, how about we talk about excising the rotten parts of it? Get corporate favoritism out of our government and bring back 'government by the people, FOR THE PEOPLE'.
They only don't care because they don't fully grasp what's being done and how it can impact their lives. Don't underestimate how dumb and unaware the average person can be.
There are some who believe that the so-called 'pharma-medical-industrial complex' will suppress treatments and medications that actually cure, in favor of treatments and medications that merely control conditions and diseases, because there's no profit to be made when you don't have perpetual repeat business.
Personally, I think that the entire pharmaceutical and medical industries should be mandated to be not-for-profit. With no motivation for the Few to get rich off the suffering of others, we'd see a big change in healthcare in this country.
You almost have it, but not quite.
The so-called 'ruling elite' want people to be in a constant state of terror, because that effectively turns off their higher reasoning abilities, and in their perpetual panic, they look for someone, anyone, who appears to be able to 'save them'.
No, I haven't heard it, maybe I'll find a way, but my initial reaction, considering how shitty so-called inappropriately-named 'AI' is, is that it'll suck.
Second this. I'll skip something if it's only a video. I'd rather read an actual article. Video is fine if there is something about the subject that really needs to be presented visually, but otherwise it's just too slow and too distracting.
Here comes the exploits, and they're not even on the roads yet!
Just like with so-called 'smartphones', more and more I hear just reinforces my desire to never, ever ride in, let alone own, a so-called 'self-driving car', and to tell people you're nuts to trust your life to one.
If you put most 'right wingers' into the reality they think they're advocating, they'd be horrified; they're playing right into the hands of Dominionists. Go look up that word for a description of the kind of world they want. Be sure your stomach is empty first though.
Or rather, fuck the Chinese government. I'm sure the people are swell.
The rank-and-file average Chinese citizen is probably 'swell', as you say, for various values of the word; chances are they're like any other average person in any other country on the planet: they just want to live their lives, raise their families, and enjoy some degree of happiness day-to-day, and otherwise not be made miserable by their own government. The sad reality for the average Chinese citizen is that things in their country will likely get far worse before they get better, because as the Chinese government tightens it's grip, more of what they want to control slips through their fingers, which just makes them ever more desperate to control every moment of every aspect of every citizens life, making everyone more miserable are more desperate for things to change. It's a vicious cycle that at some point will inevitably explode. Not like it'll be the first time China has had revolution/civil war, either. Seems to me when you have that many people involved in something that sooner or later it all blows up.
I'm in my early 50's.

The GP's point is that this will change, or at least that prices will drop to where it's negligible.
it would have to be ZERO to be acceptable to me.
The free services are superior to broadcast radio.
LOL no, I've tried them, I think they suck.

Gee, I wonder how people in Mexico, who have to deal with living under the de-facto rule of the Cartels, would feel about what you just said?

If you have the URLs, post them. My pickup is very much non-wirelessly connected, but I'd be interested regardless.
