  1. How to Import Bookmarks to Google on Yahoo! To Close Delicious · · Score: 1

I just successfully exported all 3,000 delicious bookmarks to my computer, then imported them into Firefox, and then imported them to Google Bookmarks through the Google Toolbar using these instructions:
    http://techblawg.ca/2010/12/17/exporting-bookmarks-with-tags-from-delicious/

Worked great except that Google Bookmarks uses "Labels" instead of "Tags' so all my pre-existing Google Bookmarks have labels and all my imported bookmarks have the label "Tag:*" and all reside within the "Imported from Delicious" label...

Oh, and I lost all of the notes associated with my delicious bookmarks, none of those made the import although they did successfully make it out in the export... Lame.

I don't buy it. 1) yeah there was water there at one point in history but it's not around much anyomre in liquid form. 2) Mars is tiny, less than 20% the size of the earth, while there was at one time tectonic activity which could have provided the necessary heat / pressure to do this, the planet is currently frozen solid and has been for some time. It just doesn't have the mass (like earth does...) to keep tectonic activity going on. 3) without a constant (and modern) method for creating this methane, it all would have blown away like the rest of the Martian atmosphere, the planet is cold, nothing geologic is going on there anymore.

Yeah, it COULD happen, but not today, not on a planet so small and so old.

On more than one occasion I've found myself with evening plans (playing pool and drinking beers) only because someone broadcasted a message through Dodgeball. You can call all your friends (or hope your friend calls all of his friends including you...) or you can just send an SMS to everyone when you get somewhere. "Hey I'm here, if you aren't doing anything, come join me..." It really works.

  16. Also in Portland Oregon on AT&T Wireless Phone "Upgrades" Aren't · · Score: 5, Informative

I got the letter on Friday from ATTWS, saying that they were sending me a new phone. They are supposedly providing return shipping for the old phone but the letter didn't say anything about HAVING to return the old phone to get the new phone. I'll be interested in reading the fine print when the new phone shows up but I'm not worried. I have no interest in downgrading from my T68i to this lesser phone, and I have no interest in returning either my old phone or the new one they are sending to me. More information can be found at: http://sonyericssont226upgrade.com/

Now, some background information on the return issue - I used to manage the returns department for a dotcom and thus I was supposed to know a bit about returns issues. I cannot name the specific regulation by name, but the FTC says that if a merchant sends you a product that you didn't order, it is your's for free. They can ask for you to pay for it, they can ask for you to return it, they can call you bad names for keeping it, but they cannot require you to return it nor can they require you to pay for it. Keep this in mind for this new phone and any future boxes that end up at your door step. Now, since we are all ATTWS subscribers and signed some contract when we got our service, they might actually be able to force us to return the new phones or pay for them, but I'm not sure.

Now here's the part about the whole deal that makes me worried. Why are they sending new phones for free to people? Why aren't they just letting us keep our outdated phones and stop selling them, and start selling the new phones? What is the benefit of sending me a new phone and asking for me to return my old phone? At first I thought they wanted to give me a new phone with more features so that I'd send more SSM messages, or download ringtones, or do something else that would generate more revenue for ATTWS, but I don't think that is the case, if it was I think they would have given out even cooler phones. Frankly I cannot use a phone without Bluetooth, I just cannot, if the new phone had all the features of my old phone and some bonuses it would be a different story but... ATTWS is doing something it doesn't have to. They are giving out free phones when they don't have to. It doesn't make any sense, they should just stop selling the old phones. I think there is more to the story unfortunately, and I think that the end effect is that sooner or later my old phone will no longer work with ATTWS.

Will someone please file a class action lawsuit. I'm already ready to sign up.

This isn't completely accurate. I hate to admit it but I watch college football and the 30 second skip feature allows for the exact amount of time to pass between a down and the begining of the next play. It's great for when I'm in a hurry and don't care to see the replays or if they got a first down.

  19. Patent Pending - computer virus on Enter The 'Stupid Patent Tricks' Contest · · Score: 1
While not the stupidest patent, it does seem ridiculous that someone would patent the computer virus/worm. However there are a few reasons someone might actually want to do this:

    1) Virus writing isn't always against the law (or at least if you're the victim of a virus you might wish more harm on the author than the law will allow.) If someone had a patent on the computer virus however, the author could be sued for patent infringement.
    2) Much like the lack of reporting your income due to illegal drug sales will get you into hot water with the IRS (simply to punish drug dealers more), this patent infringement could be used by the prosecutors to punish the authors.
    3) You could probably go after Symantec and McAfee as well for making money off of someone's product (virus) that infringes on your patent.
