Is IE spyware? It is installed without permission and, even though it can be a vector for viruses, cannot be removed. It also tracks personal information (via cookies). How would this NOT be illegal under the new law?
I always prefer long variable names over short or abbreviated ones. The only exception is "i" and "j" for loop counters.
They may take longer to type, but I'd much rather tap away at a few more keys that wonder what the variable is for. And that's when reading my own code, the problem is worse when it's someone elses code. The same applies for class properties and method names.
Features cut from the various Starter Editions have included support for multiple user accounts; networked printers; the ability to personalize desktops with multiple looks and feels for different users; and support for screen resolutions above 800 X 600 DPI (dots per inch). Starter Edition also prevents users from launching more than three applications simultaneously.>
I didn't realise the Starter Edition was so crippled. I would consider that barely useful!
Does this not parallel the behaviour of Microsoft? When will the government step in in a similar fashion and force Microsoft to open up SMB,.doc,.xls protocols/formats etc. If interoperability is the governments desire, then surely forcing MS's hand makes sense?
It's in perfect tune. The economy went down when I got a custom made performance exhaust and air filter, followed by re-jetting. Sounds awesome now but really sucks through the gas.
Depends on the bike. Neither of mine are particularly fuel efficient. My VL1500 gets about 170km to 13 liters, and my DR-Z400 gets about 100km to 11 litres.
Cloning research is not necessarily about actually cloning a human being, just about using techniques to clone body parts or for actuals clones to not survive past a few days.
How does cloning a person take away from the decency of life? What is indecent about cloning? I agree there are ethical and/or moral issues to deal with, but halting all research (would hope to prevent/cure diabetes/MNS) because of this seems rediculous to me.
Just last week I developed a SOAP provider and SOAP consumer application in C++ using the gSOAP toolkit. (Check it out on sourceforge). My impression: Absolutely amazing. gSOAP makes SOAP basd applications (whether or not they were initially designed to use SOAP) a breeze to code. Totally flexible, amazingly easy. The applications are boundless.
(No, I am not affiliated with gSOAP at all, just singing the praises for this amazing (open source) project).
Why would you need X on a production server? Seriously.
But your point is taken. Is does take a while to compile some things. Using distcc, the more Gentoo boxes on the local network the better compile times you'll get (in general).
All of my remote access needs are satisfied using ssh. I use NXClient for GUI stuff (when a GUI is needed) and plain old ssh when a GUI is not needed (like when doing a remote "emerge world").
NXClient will do remote X (with or without a remote desktop), RDP, VNC all wit hvery good performance (as long as the latency of the link is low enough).
The patent holder wouldn't get any of the "fruits of your labour" as you could always "cease and desist" by halting development/sale of your product. Sure, that would suck big time and you've just lost out, but the patent holder doesn't gain. Or do I misunderstand the way this works?
Use NXClient by NoMachine. I use it over a 256kb/s link and it performs very acceptably.
I use this for email (evolution) and newsgroups (KNode) as well as accessing OpenOffice.org spreadsheets on my "master" PC in the office. Works a treat.
Did you see the pic of Bush checking out a bio alternative (here). He didn't look impressed. <cynicism>Wonder why?</cynicism>

Paralizing or parallelizing?
It is. Or is that "was". I mean it will be,
Are you sure that's not related to how little can be written on blackboards? :-p
I skip it and use "l" instead. Variable names that start with k are reserved solely for developing KDE apps.

That's the beauty of multiple monitors. Slashdot on one side and work on the other. The powers that be have no idea which one I am looking at.

Hey, it was hard to write, it should be hard to read!
I reckon. I sent an email saying it was a dupe while it was in "the mysterious future". Not much point if they don't even read those emails.

How does research that uses cloning techniques take away from the value of life?

Until you marry them and have kids. Been there, done that. Use my computer more now than ever.

That's OEM, so anyone can't just walk off the street and buy it (legally, that is).
I predict we will all be oil free by 2050 - because there won't be any left! Well, not the kind that gets sucked out of the ground at least.

There are no such words in modern proper English as "Quoth", "Boxen", or "Ummm..."
Or "insain".
