    True, it is free, but they help pay for this free service with ads. Trillian doesn't have ads for those so in a sense it's taking money away from AOL. Don't get me wrong, I like Trillian, but you have to see it from the side of AOL.

    And I have no idea why I'm replying to an old article, oh well. ;)

    So, you'd rather pay AOL and have an ad free client? Or should we just stop bitching?

    There is also a client called Imici which combines AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, and ICQ. I wonder if AOL is blocking it as well?

    Of course you can hide the ads in AIM by editing aim.odl and netwait.odl. Just remove the "load_ocm advert required" from aim.odl between the {}'s of on_group(5) and on_group(11). Do the same in netwait.odl. ;)

    ...really puts us in our place. I love seeing deep space pictures, even if they are faint through my personal telescope. I think my favorite picture of "putting us in our place" would be the one that is about 2x3 inches, and is just filled with galaxies. At first glace it looks like a lot of stars, but you begin to notice that they are galaxies, hundreds of them in one small photo. Amazing! Anyone have a link to this or have any idea what I'm talking about? :)

    I hope this doesn't happen with any new versions of The Sims. I'd hate to spend my hard earned [real] cash on a new [fake] stove, have a damn Sim burn my [fake] house down, then me be short on rent for my [real] apartment. Ugh! At least I have some [fake] friends, maybe I can crash over at their place?

    I would love to see a "mission to Pluto." These blurry pictures of Pluto just don't cut it! They need to take a probe to Pluto, [in my lifetime] and they better not forget to equip it with a LOT of "flashlights" for picture taking. :)

    I used QNX a while back and really liked it, although I could *never* get my sound card working. It found everything else just fine. It'll be interesting to see how much more (if any) hardware it supports now. I had trouble compiling a few things, but nothing that I couldn't live without. Plus, it comes with Doom and Quake 3 (at least the older versions did).

    I don't want another cell phone unless the thing can fit in my wallet! I used to have a fairly small Nokia phone, but it just became annoying to the point where I didn't care to take it with me anymore. *shrug*

    I could care less how big my desktop computer is, it isn't going anywhere. But if you go to LAN parties often, then it is a good idea to invest in a laptop (esp. if you're desktop is 3 feet tall)!

    Maybe he implied he tried it (Windows 2000), but he didn't mention it like he did with the other "real" versions. *shrug*

    As for me, I used to have a few problems with Windows 98, but nothing to make me a closed minded Linux user. I installed Windows 2000 and never looked back at another Win* again (nor have I looked ahead (see: Windows XP)). And yes, I do have a Linux box, and I've been running Linux for years. I love both operating systems, and must always have both available and running in order to "survive."

    Or spend ~$150 more and get 4 more gigs and sex in a small package. ^_^ But the only downside to that is if you're a Win* user, you'll have to wait for these guys to finish their product, and hopefully they do soon.

    Of course, I'm having trouble myself justifying a $400+ MP3 player when I got my new system (P3/1Ghz, 512mb ram, 40gig hdd, GeForce2, etc) for just $100 more. Hmm..

    I read a while back that Square was a confirmed developer for the XBox. Does anyone know if they are developing "unique" games for the XBox, or if are they going to release any FF games for it (the page says FFXI for XBox as well)?

    ...if you are a "true" gamer you'll choose one side of the console war (unless you can't afford it, and I barely can). I'm not a huge Microsoft fan, but I see the XBox having great potential (and hopefully some great games). I know for a fact that both the XBox and the Gamecube are going to have games that I'll want to play, and choosing one over the other just wouldn't be fair to me. ;) I have my complaints about both systems, but who doesn't?

    On the subject of the XBox being defective and having poor customer service, I wonder if this is a normal thing for consoles (1% or so being defective)? Maybe we don't hear about the Gamecubes and the Playstations because they aren't Microsoft (and not as big of a "target" either (and this is /., of course))?
