I too work at a place where my management is promoted from the ranks of geeks. The problem? Geeks often don't make good managers. People skills are often lacking; they try to maintain that role of geek (which they were great at) and fail at the additional duties of managing.

I'm not saying it can't be done, and i agree that Having a manager that understands technical details can be great. Having one that understands how to really manage people is 100x more useful.

I'm curious, since you brought up the comparison: which feminist movement promotes/practices violence and hate to the levels equal to the kkk and black panthers? Most of the 'radical' feminist groups and demonstrations I've heard of pushed for things like an equal rights amendment, equal pay, etc. the extreme radicals push for egalitarianism more than anything. The most extreme demonstrations i can find via google relate to women protesting shirtless for a gender neutral society.

What's funny about this is the wasting of an employees time is counted as a bad mark against people. Every time I've ever gone to Best Buy I pretty much have to beat their employees off with a stick. McBride: First it's not our customers. I would say we're suing end users.

Regardless of whether or not there is SCO code in Linux, this whole nonchalant attitude of suing the end users reallys worries me either way. So if I buy a product from a company, and that company did something illegal in order to produce that product, this means that I am going to get sued for using the product? So lets say Viewsonic steals a chip design from Sony's trinitron design--this would mean that Sony can now sue all people who bought the monitor with that stolen chip. Very ludicrous imho, of course, the whole SCO ploy is ludicrous.

However, the network execs didn't think so and pulled them before their respective seasons even fully began.

So the solution? What it's been in the software industry for awhile (but still seldom implemented ;) :
    - replace the corporate execs, marketers, and other respective people 'running' the show with people who actually believe that the populace truly desires shows that make people think instead of something flashy, gaudy, and overall just plain mindless.
