I can believe there might be a gene that makes people more accepting of change. I do not believe there is a gene that makes people want big, nanny government.
Actually, Windows 7 wasn't that big a change. Most of the UI improvements from XP to 7 actually debuted in Vista.
The biggest differences are it was slimmed down to run reasonably well and the hardware had caught up with the requirements of the OS.
Quite why Microsoft thought it wise to release an OS that required a faster PC than the basic machines on the market at the time is something that shall remain forever a mystery.
This wasn't the first time MS released an OS that didn't run well on typical hardware. IIRC, NT required 12-16MG RAM at a time when the average box had 4MG. And RAM cost big $$$$ at the time. W95 claimed to run in 4, but I remember it being sluggish with 8. This was SOP for Microsoft, but with Vista the consumers didn't accept it.
It's still harder to keep track of the name than the number. I know the latest name starts with "M". But beyond that, I'm drawing a blank. The only name that pops into my head is "Masturbating Monkey", but I'm reasonably sure that isn't it.
The sun isn't going away any time soon. Perhaps not as cheap as oil, but a lot cheaper than hordes of human laborers, which even if they're slaves, require food, water, clothing, living quarters, etc
OTOH, those human slaves still worked on the 15th consecutive cloudy, rainy day.
Wind isn't going anywhere either, and is a good power source in many areas.
The problem with wind is, sometimes it really ISN'T going anywhere. It's not a very good power source when it's not blowing.
A simple IT rule of thumb, never rollout or upgrade a major system near a critical date or during a critical time period.
One of the systems where I work had an upgrade just before the holiday weekend. The system was down Thursday & Friday, and the person in charge had only 1 day to handle glitches, do tech support, and keep everything running. I'm pretty sure she didn't do any posting on/. yesterday.
I though superheros generally had superpowers thrust upon them, they didn't sign up for them or earn them by mail in a correspondence course. Falling into radioactive goo, genetic mutation, etc. Batman was the closest thing to trying to sign up for superpowers, as he has none, just really cool toys.
I put Iron Man in the same category, as someone who made his own "superpowers".
If I became a superhero, I'd much rather create a cool armored suit than to stand in the middle of a gamma-bomb explosion!
Yes users don't always[1] have to set "my first pet's name" to their actual first pet's name, but those sort of questions encourage the particularly exploitable people to do the wrong thing
Actually, my first pet's name is a fairly good choice, as security questions go. Its name isn't online anywhere (it died long before I was online), it wasn't really MY pet, and the few people who would figure out who's pet it was, and which of the many pets that person had was, are the people I'd trust with my online info anyway.
Of course the people who rattle on about their pets on FB probably shouldn't give an honest answer to that question.;)
Protecting the people they love is why superheros wear masks, or at least glasses.
That's still not a perfect solution though. Glasses only work if everyone you know is an idiot or a reporter. Otherwise, they'll catch on.
A mask works better, but then you have to endure years of people pointing and laughing at your dorky mask, and you'll eventually crack and become a supervillain anyway.
The downside is, sometime in the 22nd century, people will be screaming & tearing their hairs out maintaining the ancient code that I wrote back in 2010! Though that will be their problem, not mine.

But I've seen myself everytime I look in a mirror. If she's "me", she's certainly not "nothing I've ever seen".
I think she's better off being a witch. :P

It's a little thing I wear on my wrist to tell the time so I don't have to dig my cellphone out of my pocket. :)
I told people that MS-DOS would be useful again!
My posts aren't supposed to be public. They are supposed to private, just between me and my 5,000 closest friends.
Have you ever been tied up with a utility belt? Trust me, the straightjacket is much more comfortable.
True, but there's not much that DOESN'T run better than Vista on the same hardware.
Sounds like Oracle would have to be total idiots to fsck up Java. I don't know whether that reassures me or terrifies me.
Maybe they should put a 12 y/o girl in charge of Fox programming. That would surely be an improvment over the current leadership.

Of course, if your brother kidnaps you and bribes your lawyer, you're still screwed.

Yeah, that bugs me. One of my banks doesn't allow special characters, and when I saw that, I thought "What the !@#$. It's a bleeping bank!"

I strongly suspect that at least SOME MMO-ers do believe in orcs, elves, and dragons. :p
But, I know from a reliable source (my GF) that General Hospital is real!

Ewww! TMI!
One of my favorites is Magneto. A whole bunch of mutants think he's a hero. Heck, if I were a super-powered mutant, I'd probably think he was a hero.
I'd start with the girl's locker room. Vegas would farther along in my path to evil.
I just had a mental image of some super-doofus flying at high-speed while talking/texting on his cellphone. Watch out for that mountain, Super-Doof!
