Also keep in mind that the dead are frequently not the drunk driver, who has crumple zones, a seatbelt, and airbags to protect themself.
Last weekend in my city, some idiot on PCP crashed his SUV into 5 cars waiting at a traffic light. The idiot wasn't hurt, but some of the others weren't so lucky, including a 12 y/o boy who was killed.
You also have to consider the driver's familiarity with the road. If I know all the twists & turns on a road, I can safely go much faster than some sucker who got lost and has never been on that road before.
IIRC, it required something like 8M RAM at a time when 4 was considered generous. Only power-users had that much RAM, and MS admitted that BoB wasn't for power-users.
There's a huge difference between doing 80 on your own lead foot, and doing 80 because of the car's "lead foot". And it depends on the highway & traffic conditions at the time. Sometimes 80 is way too fast for safety.
I've found that when coasting down an ice-covered hill, I have better control in neutral than in drive. Admittedly, I've never shifted into N while driving at any significant speed, since I don't have a Toyota.:P
I start the engine, then get out of the car to sweep off the snow (in winter, anyway). So no, putting on the seatbelt is not going to be part of my car-starting regimen.
I do that once per snowfall (or frosting), and since I'm out of the car in seconds, I barely hear the dinging. The rest of the time, I buckle my belt first.
The above poster's ancestors came from Africa, but HE didn't. My ancestors came from Europe, but I didn't see a box for "Euro-American". Actually, if you want to nitpick, my ancestors came from Africa too, they just stopped in Europe for a few thousand years.
Why do they NEED to know who I am? They just need to know that one person lives at MyAddress in MyCity in MyState. Whether I'm white, black, or purple shouldn't make any difference.
I have an interesting IE story. On one website that I visit, I heard rumblings that people couldn't get on it. I wondered what they were talking about, since I had no trouble. Then I just happened to be browsing with IE8, hit that site and - holy crap, it IS borked. Though, since it worked perfectly with FF, Chrome, Safari, and Opera, I'd say the site was fine - IE was borked.
Some say they don't trust Windows (or any other OS, I guess) with their data. That's what backups are for. When was the last time you did a backup of all your papers, by the way? Papers are easy to lose and nearly impossible to find when you need them.
Totally agree! Not to mention decyphering the crappy scribble you did when in a hurry.
My printer at home is broken. I've needed a new one for awhile, but as little as I use it, I hate to fork out the money. That last time I had to print something from home, I just emailed my work address and printed it from work.
I ask because it seems rare in the US for hourly workers to get paid sick days (beyond a couple) so at some point one must make the decision to expose all your co workers to whatever you have, or watch your paycheck get smaller.
I think an employer who denies sick leave should have to talk to the employee about it. In person, face-to-face, breathing in the employee's germs.
The Democrats ran after 8 years of a very unpopular administration with a major economic collapse against an opponent who was over 100 years old with a veep whose main qualification was that she could see Russia from her house. Healthcare reform isn't what got the Dems into power.
I suspect most people visit BOTH sites. If I want to look up some technical information (or find new pr0n), I use google. If I want to find out if Brenda's son got his car fixed, I check on Facebook.
That is crazy! I can sort of see Coke frowning on its employees drinking a stand-alone Pepsi, but some of the Pepsi resteraunts have good food, despite their inferior drink.
We are talking IE6 here, it is a decade old by now. Do you still use 10 year old PC's? Do you use 10 year old cars?
My car is over 7 years old, and still going strong. I'm sure the hardware at work isn't 10 years old, but I just recently upgraded from 10 y/o software to 5 y/o (SQL 2000 to SQL 2005). IE6 is hardly the only "old" software we use.
The other day, someone was asking about moving to IE7 because some sites, including our credit union, would soon end support for IE6. The response was that 1: The web people haven't tested our apps yet, and 2: What testing they HAVE done indicates the apps will break under IE7.

Or Bruce Banner. But it's probably not a good idea to pick on that guy.
Because part of the idea of that social network is so those people you knew 30 years ago can find you.

I heard that was for some games, written for the 286/8088, that didn't work right at "turbo" speeds.
Worse, it seems like we're fighting Sun Tsu with General Custer.
Actually, I do. :)
Based on my experience the last time I used Norton, you'd be better off with the virus.
And yet, they tell us to be fruitful and multiply. I didn't realize they were talking about diet and math.

Really? Since when did Firefox start running ActiveX?

*sigh* Either way, we're screwed. :P
The big issue for me is battery life. I don't want some random app draining the battery of the device I use to call a tow if my car breaks down.
