For me it's two things. First, there has been a Trek incarnation on the air since 1987. Second, and even more important, what will replace Enterprise? As bad as the first 3 seasons of Enterprise were, the (un)reality crap is even worse. If they replace Enterprise with THAT, that really would sux!

That depends on the teacher. SOME of my classes were fun, but most of them were MUCH more boring than any self-studying I've done. At least when I study on my own, I don't have teachers bitching that I'm reading ahead.

I agree that Stardoe has a lot of similarity to Starbuck. While I bring the sex change up when I gripe about this show, it's not my main objection. My main gripe is in your last paragraph. This series IS grittier & darker - too gritty & dark for my taste. The old series had limitations - it WAS 1978 television after all, but I liked its style much better than the overly complicated dramatic stuff going on in the current series.

Blue - I'm not quite clear on this, but I think it has something to do with KMart.

    Yellow - the normal state.

Orange - it bumps to orange when the DHS eats at Taco Bell

Red - the highest alert. It means planes are crashing into building, bombs are dropping, and shopping malls are blowing up. The proper course of action here is to run around in a circle screaming.

I can literally travel thousands of miles away and still be where English is the main language.

There's nothing wrong with learning other languages, but there's no compelling reason for most Americans to do so. The main reason Europeans are multilingual is because they can practically walk to where they speak a different language. That isn't the case here.

But no more. Television is an extremely limited medium. there are only five things:
1: Sentimental pseudo-dramas with endless close-up shots of actors overacting under heavy lights and heavy make-up.

    3. Talking heads going on endlessly; saying nothing.
    4. The Game. Televising 'da game, man' hasn't changed much in fifty years. Turn on a TV and within a half-second you know if you have on 'the game'. It never stops; it never changes. You either like it or not.
    5. Commercials. They used to be 60 seconds, now they are all 30 or 15 seconds. Some people consider them to be a unique American art form; some people consider pissing on a electric wire to be an art form. Nearly everyone thinks commercials suck and trys to avoid them

    6. Action/Adventure shows. Maybe you classify them under #1, but I think they're different enough to justify their own category. Some of those are worth watching.

    7. Documentaries. Also worth watching.

The good thing about Tivo is, it can find the diamonds that are buried in the mountain of dung that is most TV.

Myself, I would rather watch DVDs, ride bicycle, write code, dance, make love, or eat pizza than watch television

Another good thing about Tivo is that I can watch DVDs, take walks, read, make love, and eat pizza, and STILL see my favorite shows whenever I want to.
