    Unless you'd prefer to revert back to a time when the educated told the uneducated what to do and think and they had no choice because they were not allowed to be educated.


    It seems to me like we ARE reverting to that time. Except that now, the uneducated have HS diplomas, but still can't read or do math.

    It's possible to learn in a public school, and it is SLIGHTLY better than nothing, but the system isn't really geared for education anymore. It's geared for babysitting, and it fails there too.

    I agree that there needs to be some opportunity for people without money to get an education, but the public school system, as it is now, isn't that place.

    Those who cannot afford a decent education get practically none at all in the public schools. It's little more than a way to get unruly kids out of their parent's hair.

    Um, that's what's happening with the current system. Those who can afford a decent education get one, and everyone else goes to public schools.

    Spyware doesn't only infect computers via IE backdoor. I'd venture that most of it comes bundled with other "free" apps that people have to actively download and install


    And burglars are more likely to get in through a window. But I still lock my doors.

    I believe that one day we _will_ all be driving electrical cars because there simply isn't any oil left to burn


    Hopefully, by that time, we'll have affordable electric cars that can go up steep hills in cold weather.

    I have no problem with IE "stealing" tabs from Firefox/Opera, but I think it's worth mentioning that everyone else had them BEFORE Microsoft.

    Sites that rely on advertising revenue would get rather cranky if the default browser on the monopoly desktop operating systems was blocking the ads.


    As far as I'm concerned, that's THEIR problem! I'm sure the ad monkeys would also like to outlaw the mute button for TV's, but every TV has one.

    Red Hat has no fanboys. Fanboys are exclusively found on Gentoo, Debian and some on Slackware. All nice distributions, but all lacking good QA.


    Both Slackware and Debian have consistantly been more reliable than RedHat. For that matter, so has SuSe.

    But for a highly secure system, I doubt you could beat a phrase or sentence -- particularly in an obscure language

    Here's my tounge-in-cheek answer:

    The Democrats stand for raising taxes, spending money, and insulting Republicans.

    The Republicans stand for lowering taxes, spending money, and insulting Democrats.

    There are numerous political parties (the Libertarians & the Greens are the best known), but they can't do much because the only thing the R's and D's agree on is that 3rd parties are evil, and they'll join forces against them.

    Yes, you have the freedom to start your own party, but it will have to fight the established 2 party system, and you're probably better off having a boozing party instead.

    It's not just that they have nukes that MIGHT reach us. It's not even because SK would get pulverized. It's because there is a rather large country north of NK that wouldn't be pleased at an American invasion there.

    Linus knew all about BSD. He knew that it was debatable whether it WAS freely available. The legalities hadn't been resolved at that time. THAT is why he didn't use it, rather than any lack of knowledge about it.

    There's nothing wrong with running Windows Update every 2 months. Hell, I run apt-get a lot more than that. That's just part of running ANY Internet connected OS. The only problem is that Windows STILL isn't secure enough, even if you run Update regularly.
