    True. I bought an iBook, but I still have my Doze/Linux desktop. My next desktop might be a Mac, but it will probably be quite awhile before I retire my current one.

    NetBank doesn't charge an ATM fee, but that doesn't help much because the owner of the ATM still charges one. Naturally, NetBank has very few ATMs in my area. :(

    In 2038, the 32 bit Unix dates will overflow and go into negative numbers. So when your time machine passes that date, it will overflow and you'll end up playing tag with a Tyranasaurus Rex.

    I'm not sure I'd use 2.4.18 as an example of an obsolete system. I mean, that's still the kernel that Debian-stable uses, isn't it?


    Um, the fact that Debian stable uses it doesn't mean it isn't obsolete. ;)

    I agree that OSS isn't immune to this problem; I once got bitten when an unsupported program borked after an upgrade. But I still had the option of trying to fix it myself or hiring someone to do it. With closed source, there IS no option.

    The WebTV concept failed! The people who wanted Internet machines BOUGHT 1500 computers. They might not have been happy about it, and they might not have known how to admin them, but they bought them, while WebTVs rusted away in the store.

    The majority of Americans thought Bush was better than a trained weasel. That doesn't mean we agree with all of his politics, particularly the Patriot Act. It just means we thought he sucked a little less than the other guy.

    I agree! KDE is just as easy as Windows, but installing Linux can be a PITA. Although my hardware works under "Linux", no single distro recognizes everything. Fedora Core 1 & SuSe 9.1 wouldn't even install on my box.

    My main desktop is a Linux/XP dual-boot box, but I recently bought an iBook, and it kicks butt! To get Linux working, I had to re-partition my HD (eliminates 90+% of people right there), and found that no single distro supports ALL of my stuff OOTB (out of the box). Also, Windows didn't recognize my printer! However, everything I've plugged into my Mac worked OOTB. No fiddling of any kind!
