Even if they didn't recall unsold CDs, just releasing patched CDs would be 1000% better than what they're doing now! How many of those Win XP CDs in the store have been sitting there since 2001? So why do they still have 2001 software?
IMO, the fact that they moved Enterprise against SG1, finished it off. The current season is actually pretty good, but after the previous seasons, the only reason I'm watching is because I have a dual-tuner Tivo. If I had to choose between the two shows, I wouldn't even have to think about it.
I agree! On one occasion, I was driving along, yakking with my GF when suddenly one lane was closed for an accident, and the traffic was already fairly heavy. I literally quit talking in mid-sentence until I got past the mess, and my GF could see why I shut up. If I'd been on the cellphone instead, she wouldn't have known why I suddenly shut up.
Availability of family makes a HUGE difference. My mom never got a car because we used to live close to decent shopping, and by the time most of the shops closed, I had a car. I live about 5 minutes from her and drive her where she needs to go. If I wasn't nearby, it would be a lot harder for her to get by without a car.
There used to BE one good distro that I'd recommend by default. Namely RedHat. It wasn't the best, it wasn't even the easiest. But it WAS a market standard. Unfortunately, they turned their backs on the non-corporate market, so I recommend SuSe/Mandrake/Lindows now. Or Slackware/Debian for techies.
OSX seems to be the only OS that IS suitable for Aunt Tilly. It doesn't have the malware problems of Windows, and it doesn't have the installation woes of Linux.
Interesting. I NEVER heard anyone say that OS9 was particularly stable. WinXP, IME is far more stable than win98, though it's still virus-ridden crapware. OSX is an entirely different OS than previous Mac OS's. It has fixed many of the problems people had with OS9 and earlier. It's well worth trying, IMO.
I'm sure it still has its uses. After all, I'm still maintaining stuff written in the other dying/dead language (Cobol). Both languages have reached critical mass (or is it critical mess?).
Way back when, you only had a few choices. If you were a scientist/engineer you used Fortran. If you programmed business/text applications you used Cobol. Fortran stunk for business use, and Cobol stunk for math uses.
Hardware support! On my x86 desktop, one Linux distro doesn't set up sound, another one sets up sound, but not my printer, and another freezes on shutdown. On my iBook, all the above work, with zero effort on my part.
Also, the hardware is better than most PC laptops.
Cats are also smart enough NOT to do stupid tricks just because their owner tells them to. This is relative to dogs; AFAIK, pigs don't do stupid tricks on command either.
You can still avoid debt while using credit cards. Just pay off the full balance every month. As long as you do that, you can charge as much as you can afford without paying a cent of interest.

At least, with McDonalds, I don't get all those viruses. Though I have gotten a few worms.
Maybe you need a better bank! I connect to 3 banks with Firefox.
Yes!
1. It IS getting good in its fourth season.
2. There has been a Star Trek show on the air for nearly two decades. Crappy as Enterprise has been, this IS the end of an era.
3. There's a better than even chance that Enterprise's replacement will be a crappy (un)reality show.

I don't have On$tar, but if I did, I'd treat it like a cellphone. IOW, I'd pull my @$$ over before using it.

Bulls#!t! Between my job and my commute, I work 11+ hours a day. If I can vote, anyone can! Special effort? Tell that to the Iraqis!

I tried Ubuntu. It didn't set up X-Window correctly. Ubuntu isn't ready for MY desktop. Installing Linux is still a YMMV thing.

Moneydance didn't DL transactions from my bank, automatically or otherwise. So far, only Quicken or MS Money has done that.
OS8 & OS9 were entirely different from OSX. It's like comparing Win98 to Win XP!

Nah, he's got it right. If he was talking about Kerry, he would have said "Weaselman".
I'm a "city folk" so I may be wrong, but I've read somewhere that cows are much smarter than horses.
They do that to prevent you from using "password" as your password.
"Identity theft" also sounds scarier in newsbytes. I wasn't just defrauded, I had my identity stolen *gasp*.
