    The holographic doctor still couldn't replace real doctors. In the early days, he was stuck in sickbay. Even after he could make "house calls" there were malfunctions, and Kes or Tom had to fill in.

    Stability-wise, I saw no difference between Linux (Slackware) and FBSD. Linux hasn't crashed in a long time. And using a 2.3 (or 2.5) kernel is as dumb as using FBSD 5.0!

    proposal. You don't have to wait at all before you can start using and developing it.

    I know that if all the Y2K errors I fixed in 1999 had happened all at once, it would have been a mess! There's a big difference between having 1 to 5 years to find & fix problems, and having everything blow up at once.

    NetBSD even installs with 4MB RAM. I even tried to install it with 3.8 MB RAM usable but that was not possible (fdisk ran out of memory).

    I guess those toasters that NetBSD gets installed on have at least 4MB RAM.

    2) If I am watching live (or recorded) tv, I can pause and answer the phone or the door. I can also rewind back (yes, live tv) and watch that last joke that that my wife talked over. Or I can see that game winning, last second dunk again in slow motion.

    I use the pause feature all the time! I used to wait until a commercial break to grab a snack, but now I just pause. Sometimes (with live TV) I pause a little longer than neccesary so I'll have more leeway to FF past commercials.

    Tivo doesn't really REPLACE the VCR, due to it's limited storage, but you can save Tivo'd programs to the VCR for permanent archives. And Tivo's a lot easier than fumbling for tapes.

    The one place it needs work is FDISK, and that's not a problem unless you say 'NO' when asked if you'd like to 'use the entire hard drive'.

    Unfortunately, that one problem killed OBSD for me. Surely, it's not uncommon to want to dual-boot OBSD with something else.

    But, contrary to popular opinion, Superman's not just dumb muscle. He's pretty damn smart himself. And he knows that Batman has the kryptonite, and can plan for that. It's not a simple case of brains vs brawn, since Superman has both.

    Oh damnit.. I feel like I'm 12 again.

    Since I'm arguing about a fictional flying man, I'd better not respond to that one. :)

    My memories of Birdman are very hazy(I think I was 5 when it was on). But Superman has an incredible amount of solar energy stored within his body. Even if Bats found a way to cut him off from sunlight, it would take days for him to expend it.
