That is exactly it.. If the music industy would understand that it is not paying for the disk that most people have a problem with.
It is the price / quality of music.. There are very few groups I would buy today period, let alone $20+ for a CD..
I very much want to see the CD Kieosks for making your own high quality CD's with your choice of music. The Major lables started talking about that years ago when CD burners were $$$$$, but it never happened except on limited trials. Some company was even going to allow you to make a "Pressed" CD with your choice of songs, but even at the time I think that was feasable price wise.
With a Kiesosk there are lots of cool things they could do.. For instance you would pay by the song a resonable price. But if you only put say 6 songs on the CD they could toss a "Bonus" song on the end of the CD that they think you would like. This would be advertising and some people would take offence to this too, but hey it is free music..
Show of hands, who would use a system like this if it was priced at say $1 - $3 per song depending on the age of the song??
It seems a darn good deal from where I am sitting, I currently payu way more then that now for Cable Modem, DishNetwork, and phone..
And it would be great to have seperate phone lines for the kids so they could get there own calls.. Ahh what am I saying.. Second thought one phone line is plenty.. LOL
Well the way I look at it, even if the company went out of buisness because the software is not up to par does not mean the source code is not good for any thing.
It can be used for examples of what NOT to do..
And even in the worst program there should be some good usable code.
The more source code people have to look at the more ideas they can have to work with.
The only way I can see it having a negative effect is people using code they don't understand and that code causing undesired side effects.
On a side question how would that much source code be maintained? That would be a huge collection of code?
Picture this. a desktop case with any where from 2 to X number of slots to hook these in. You have a scalable Multi Processor system. When you need that much processing plug them all in, when you don't you have several systems to use.
I don't know if that would work or not, but it is a cool idea.
Well even is "Lindows" is forced to changed there name, it is exactly what they want..
The publisity of the case will let people know there is a choice.
I just Hope "Lindows" has the for site to hand out CD's to all the Jurors, judge, press, and any one else they can think of to show there is nothing making them similar to MS, and mabye if they get luckly a few of those people will install it!
With Hotmail some of the new spam filters do work.
I currently have Hotmail set to instantly junk any E-mail that is not in my address book and that works for me. There is another option that filters any E-mail not in your address book to a junk folder, but with that you have to clear out the junk every now and then.
But on the other hand the only reason I even have a Hotmail account is so I can use MSN messenger.
"Buggy software is usually damaging the people who wrote it. "
I disagree, at this point buggy software is damaging the entire computer industry.
People have come to expect and except buggy software.
10 years ago people would not have accepted your C64 to crash every other game. DOS didn't crash. Dos programs didn't crash.
Durning that era if a program was buggy or crashed it did not sell well.
Now Microsoft has convinced us that the computer needs to be rebooted daily and some programs will crash and people are expected to accept it. ASd worse yet most people do, those that dont move to Linux or Macs.
If the public would stop accepting buggy software and hold companies responcible for the software actually working then maybe windows and newer software would start working the way it should.
If you are not getting the services you should be getting you would want to let them know and tell them your intention of moving to a differnt provider if they do not solve the problems.
Contrary to what most people think, if every one that is having problems does this and starts switching to cable the problem(s) will be fixed.
I really hate to have to support large business, but for a moment I have to..
Can any one count the number of articles we have read here in the last 6th months about broadband companies going out of business or filing bankruptcy?
I for one would be willing to pay a $ or 2 more a month for reliability and stability to make sure my provider does not go out of buisness.
Honestly as more and more of the competition goes down the tubes I would expect to pay more.
As DSL and cable providers get there equipment paid for and the number of users starts to stabilize a little the prices will go back down.
Just think if you narrow it down to a few feet how useful that could be in a bar..
You could mark if you are interested or not intersted in advances.. It would make it a little more interesting.
Can you imagion when or kids start using there "communicators" in the cars in a a few years. Just point at a good looking girl accross the bar and type can I buy you a drink? No more cold sholders. No more slaps for crude comments.
Sorry if this has already been answered, but one of the reasons it can go faster by opening multiple D/L from the same site is servers never use the max bandwith avaible for each download because it is a shared resource.
So when you start more then one D/L from the same server you may get a slightly slower average from each D/L but a higher total D/L rate.
And like some one else brought up most sites have more then so even if it says the same name more often then not it is 2 differnt machines in a cluster.
Wow, it has been years since I though of Racing Destruction set. All the different Gravities and making tracks...
Think any one could make an updated copy for Windows.
I would glady Beta Test

Very well written letter.
It does not finger point that copy protection is bad, just the fact it will not work on Non-windows based machines.
Any one know the correct link to this page is?
I would be interested in seen what people call the top 10 books.
How does the Multitasking and Multimedia compaire to BEoS.. That were the 2 of the things that keeps BEoS different in my mind?

I second that..
I actually had good luck with at home, but my local cable co (Part of Midco Cable) doing cable modem scares me..

Maybe we could port Quake over to a Linux based GPS and have some real life Quake fun and have to Chace down or our oppenents?
Seriously it might be a little tricky with only 4 buttons, any one know how the game play is?

I think what you are talking about is the holigraphic storage devices they were talking about..
They were going to read a "crystal" in 3D and have very high storage capasity.
Any one know what the latest advances that have been made on those?
I would love to order 1 Tera Cube for my computer!
I am not sure who you would cast in them, but hte dark Tower series would make a nice movie or better yet a mini series.
Here is another stat that would be intersting to find out what percentage of all internet trafic is devoted to Spam.
Would the net speed up 5% if all spam was made illigal?

Ok, I will step off my soap box and relax.
I agree.
I know the sound hardware in it is probably better then the average computer, but $1500 is way out of range.
A DVR / MP3 / CD-RW / DVD-RW now that would be on the right track!!!
On the other hand if any one is willing to send me one I would give it a proper review. Do I have any takers?
OK, this I will agree with..

OK, my head pounding is getting in my way.
I want real stuff to read about is what that should have said..
Can any one use the tranporter they talked about the other day and send some pain killer to my desk?
I agree, if I was looking for stories on new movies I would be reading Entertainment news..
I want read stuff to read about!

OK, time to get my brain back on track..
LOL..
Well that is what I don't understand as I read the article, it says that intercepting the proten would cause the properties of it to change..
But they also say they have no way of reading the value. Is that because they are modifying the value of the proton when they try to read it?
Vaperware anyone?
