If laser printers usually only last for months, but you get a whole year out of an Ink Jet, wouldn't an Ink Jet be a better option for many people?
It would make sense if you had read what the parent post had stated. What he said was that Laser Printers last for months of HEAVY PRINTING. I'd like to see any non-continuous flow ink-jet printer do the same.
As for all the posts in here about lasers being crap for photos -- we have a Samsung CLP-550N in here. We have taken several very close photos of some rather colourfull flowers and printed them on some super-bright 20lb copy paper. We then framed them and hung them on our wall. I have no doubt that someone that deals with photos professionally could tell a difference but the question we get most of the time is "Where did you get those pictures? I want some of those for my (insert place to hang photos here)!" You should see the looks on these peoples faces when we tell them we took the photos with a digital camera and printed them on a color laser.
You hand the customer a receipt for their purchase. If they ask for internet access, you hit one button and out pops a code; a code pre-configured by the management/IT guy/Hired IT Help, and hand THAT to the customer.
I don't know how much more simple you'd like to make it without integrating it into whatever P.O.S. software is being used which will undoubtedly make the software cost FAR more than it already does (speaking of SubShop from my own experience. $3000 for a 'register' that is nothing more than a Pentium 233mmx or a K62?! )
Anyway, any employees not doing their job get talked to and/or fired. Simple as that.
There should no excuses for an employee not doing their job.
I've posted about this once but cannot see all of my posts in my personal page, so...
What you want *can* be done, and rather cheaply, I think.
Check out D-Links "Airspot" line. It includes a code-printer. All you do is push a button and a code is spit out. In the router (a seperate item) you configure the paramaters for the code and all is set!
One word: Robot Arm . Sure, the Russians or Americans can get you to space, but if you actually want to do something once you get there, you need the Candarm, or awesome Canadarm2. Our friends to the north also made the boom that will inspect the Shuttle for damage once it's in orbit.
Because, as we all know, no other country on Earth is capable of making something exactly the same/similar.
...something they can take home and run on their computer UNMODIFIED. Mozilla, Firefox, OpenOffice, Gimp, etc.
Let them decide if they want to trash their existing software in a jump to a full linux machine on their own. If they think they might want to but aren't sure, give them a Knoppix (or similar) CD to play with BEFORE they trash their software.
It's the forcing them into an all-or-nothing situation that will turn them away from you faster than girls from pocket-protector-wearing, tape on the bridge of the nose support on your glasses geeks.:)

TSA Violated Privacy Act

From the article A TSA contractor collected 100 million records on those names. That is what worries me- How thoroughly are the contractors being vetted? If you visit the Federal Biz Opportunities site http://fbo.gov/ you will see that the gov't contacts out incredible amounts of work. I trust the US Military with my security (We could argue about the military and privacy all day so lets not bring that up), but why is our security being contacted out? That is what worries me. Where is the accountability???
They don't care. They don't have to. They're the US Government!
No, they don't. At least the vast majority of them do not have GPS. There are very few exceptions to this, and you would probably know if your phone had GPS, because the manufacturer would be advertising this feature in large, bold letters all over the packaging, the phone, the manual, everywhere. One exception: the garmin navtalk gsm
Besides, for GPS you need a rather bulky antenna (in comparison with what you can get away with in G3 or GSM phones), something that won't go unnoticed with the small phones available today. On top of all that, GPS receivers are rather battery hungry, and even more so if they don't have good reception, which is highly likely since GPS requires an unobstructed view of the sky, so say goodbye to standby times exceeding one measily day.
A GPS-reciever in the phone won't help you indoors, under dense forest canopy or even while in your pocket.
This shows how little you know about cell cervice (at least in the US). My mother has had three "Get this phone free if you sign up" phones through Verizon. All three (flip phones, if that matters) have had at least emergency-services GPS (as stated in their books). I have had 2 flip phones and 2 'normal' phones through USCellular. Both flip phones and one of the Nokia's I've had all had GPS per their books, however, USCellular saw fit to remove the GPS software from the phones (along with the games) so it's only use is for emergency location. As far as USCellular goes, the E-GPS feature is enabled by default.
All of this, though, does no good if the GPS signal is not being sent to the 911 dispatch center. In my area, I have no idea if it is or not.
How fortunate for those who still have their foreskins that they:
1) Don't have to purchase all that crap 2) Have all the feeling they were intended to have so as to not have to pound the hell out of their date to 'get off'
Yea, I think that'd be better than being butchered.
Sex? Did you miss the DVD part where "Ms. Congenetaila" was announced?
This is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. The voices were WAY off, the acting was HORRIBLE, they weren't really all that negative at all.
I hope this is the ONLY 'episode' that is created. If they make any more, the spinning in Hensen's grave will spin him right out of it (to hopefully take revenge on those who created this crap).
The www is just a fad. We don't need support for it anyway. We'll just hardcode our browser to "www.microsoft.com" and you can navigate your happy ass from there.
I recently upgraded to a 6.1 from a 5.1 system (only becuase my Yamaha 5.1, after 5 years, finally showed signs of problems -- it would 'turn off' at random times. It's wierd.)
Out of the 50-ish movies I own, I can think of only one that specifically states it supports 6.1 (Gladiator). A handfull of others have had sound coming out of the rear-center, but the others ignore it completely.
Anyone who uses one of several 'home router' type hardware (I'm talking specifically about the Linksys, but I'm sure others apply) are already using Linux firewalls.:)
I haven't seen anyone here mention having actually tried the service so I figured I'd throw my two cents in (even though it's abit late).
The files that *I* downloaded are 128kbps.wma files. They do sound good (at least to me). The transfer was quick.
Right now, because it's in "beta", the service is giving away $5 worth of songs (@.99 per song, you will get 5).
You can burn the songs to a CD which is nice. I don't know how many times it will let you -- I'm currently buring the second CD of the same 5 songs and it's going OK thus far.
When I signed up for my account I was *not* asked for a credit card number or any banking information. I'll have to wait untill payday to see how well that part works.
In the FAQ, they state that you will 'earn' up to 10% credit for sharing the song. You can earn more if you send what they call "noisemakers" to people to try to get them to pay for a song as well.
I'll be watching to see how well it goes. Microsoft's MSN Music offers 160kbps songs instead, but I'd like to see exactly how this 'get credit for more songs' works before I make any further jdugements.
I'd think the ability to concentrate on making interesting things that work would be much more fun than trying to hack the latest attempt at locking a user OUT of hardware (s)he OWNS.
the old Xerox Phaser 850's produced photo quality 8X10's easily. the newer xerox color Lasers certianly keep pace with the current "photo quality" inkjets, but do not compare to the high end inkjets designed specifically for photo printing.
The Xerox Phaser printers (specifically the model you mentioned) are not laser printers. They use a special wax ink stick. They do make VERY nice prints and are quite fast, however, they are DAMNED expensive to repair. We quit selling them because we were unable to obtain parts for them.
For those interested, you can get a Xerox 8400b or 8400dp for free here. You have to print quite abit to make it worth it (there is a certain minimum monthly amount you must spend with this company in supplies, however). I don't know anyone who's done it so I don't know if doing something like this is worth it but at least there isn't any stupid offers you have to fill out, no conga lines (is that what they are being called still), etc.
If laser printers usually only last for months, but you get a whole year out of an Ink Jet, wouldn't an Ink Jet be a better option for many people?

This is when you tell the customer "Sorry, I cannot give out free tickets. I will get fired if I do." People need to quit being so spineless.
All you, as owner of the establishment, needs to do is post a sign stating the policy.

You are making this out to be SO MUCH more complicated than it is, or needs to be.
You buy something -- counter droid hits a button, out pops a second receipt.
If they cannot handle that, what other parts of their job can they not handle? Simple as that.
Mike
I hate it when people make excuses for the lazy.
It's one button.
One.
