I never said electronic voting is more accurate, just that absentee is not the solution.
Additionally, if you were at the WA state recounts, you could certainly understand how much voter fraud played into that election. In that case, Gregoire kept getting recounts until she didnt need them anymore.
I suggest you take a look at the research into the recent Washington state elections done by SoundPolitics.com. They verified close to a 20% error rate in absentee balloting. The signature verification on absentee balloting is no verification at all due to non-verification being done by those who count the ballots. Additionally, the USPS is not a trusted source, they are just another government beuacracy. The ballots themselves cannot necessarly be traced nor verified and even when the signatures are completly different, they are still counted. Due to the nature of voter rolls, duplicate ballots are sent out all the time due to slight variation in a persons name and the duplicate ballots counts are not caught until after the final tally has been done and the election finished. Finally, mischivious gov officials can always delay sending the military their ballots so those serving overseas do not have time to get their vote in on time. This actually happened in 2004 in Washington state.
Permanent absentee is not the solution. Neither is electronic voting.
The true solution takes elements of the recent Mexican election to prevent fraud (voter id cards, thumb inking, precinct based monitoring and tallying) and combine them with the best paper based voting machine.
I remember the rolling blackouts and work in the SF bay area. I also remembering preparing ahead so that the 24/7 production servers were on battery for the one hour the blackout lasted. Planning ahead helps here.
Now as to tha cause, it wasnt only Enron making a buck or the idiotic method of de-regulation. One of the main problems is the enviros in Cal prevented new power plants from being built in the state since the 1970's.
oh great, we really need more innovation in using a weapon not designed to kill but designed to maime people, then again nothing America and its sick administration/populace suprises anyone thesedays
just ban landmines and ban the fskers who advocate their use
You do realize that the mine field between North and South Korea is one of the major items contributing to South Koreas defense from a invasion from the north?
So, If I have a 100k line log file to parse out I should be expected to create a DB, write an import script, write script to read through each line and then only export the relevant data?
Ok, whos going to pay for this?
Especially when I can do it 5 times faster in excel?
BTW, I'm very well knowledge on relational database design (as I do SQL programming on a daily basis). But I also understand that a database is not a sledgehammer for every task you want to do.
Sometimes it is just faster and cheaper to do it in excel.
WTF? If I've got anyone in IT putting 1,000,000 rows in a spreadsheet, I'm seriously considering demoting them. If you're going to have a million rows, get a database.
The problem isnt having 1 million rows available but that the current 65k row limit is not enough.
The problem is NVidia has already shown how to use its GPUs as dedicated physics processors. Once you get into a SLI setup, frequently the bottleneck is the CPU, not the Vid card. By off loading physics onto the vid card as needed, you remove the need for a seperate physics chip.
To clarify, the Democrats are pandering to the same base. Rather than refocus on some core concepts, they've apparently decided that if they pretend to be George Bush and Friends they can get elected. Except, nobody who would vote for them would be stupid enough to vote for a Bushite, and nobody who's stupid enough to vote for Bush would ever vote Democrat anyway, just because they're Democrats.
Democrats pandering to the same base? How are they doing this when they talk of impeaching Bush and have made there stand as being Anti-anything proposed by republicans?
The Dems can't refocus on core concepts because the core concepts of liberalism is rejected by the vast majority of Americans. Just witness why Dem presidential candidates have to move to the center to win while Rep candidates can run as conservatives.
Even today, when Republicans are most vulnerable, Democrats cannot take advantage of it. Why? Because they do not offer there own vision, they only offer themselves as anti-republican. They offer the public not a vision, but the prospect of the shrillness of Nancy Pelosi become speaker of the House...
Don't forget that parents who send their kids to private schools can deduct the tuition and get their tax money back, since they're "relieving the burden on the public system" by sending their kids to private school.
This is totally incorrect.
Only private kindergarden can be deducted on federal tax returns. Tuition for grades 1 through 12 is not tax deductible. Sending your child to public only gets him a better education, it doesn't take any money out of our broken public school system.
Honestly, I am flabbergasted that they would do this. The server population is so low, that most servers have been combined with others at least twice, if not more often.
This is not true. Back in May 2005, servers were merged on a 2 to 1 basis, the excpetion being the PvP servers which went from 4 to 1. And thats all the mergers that have happened.
SQL Server Express is one of two free databases we tested and is actually Microsoft's replacement for its earlier free offering the Microsoft Desktop Engine (MSDE) which was based on the old Access technology.
This is utterly false.
MSDE is based off SQL Server 2000, which itself a revision to SQL Server 7. MS Access has NOTHING to do with SQL Server (excpet proving nice single DB front ends via ADPs). When your dishonest (or just stupid) so early in a article, you loose your reader.
First off, I am a EQ player and part of a high end raiding guild (Anguish+ leve). Contrary to popular belief, being part of the high end game does not take away your life. Instancing changed this since now you know you can log in at a set time, have a set raid, and know it will go for a given amount of time.
I constantly hear from EQ players who are going to move to V:SoH when it comes out. Many of these are players who have played EQ since it's early days. In response to them, I remind them of what the EQ under Brad and his Vision gave us:
- Ragefire(ver1) in SolB. Players would stay up for DAYS on end waiting for him to spawn so a cleric can finish their epic. - Pained Soul camp. Killing a green con skeleton spawn for 12-20 hours. - Raster. People have been known to camp him for 36hours+ straight. - Stormfeather. Spawns every 18 hours, but can skip spawn. Commonly KS'd since the resulting quest item is irreplaceable. - Veeshans Peak (ver1). Once you zone in, only way out is the zone out. No gating. You wipe in VP, your fucked.
These are just a few of the things that players of V:SoH have to look forward to....
I've had a DirectTV Tivo for over a year and it does everything I need it to do. The reason why I won't swap to a PC based system is my 3 year old pretty much can't break it...
I let my sub drop about 2 years ago. The issue that did it was when they let some Euro-trash guest edit one issue and he put in a article on how much better is then the US. After that, the magizine wasnt even worth a buck an issue.
About 2 months after it expired, bam. Collection letter...
Big O was a great cartoon, but the funny thing is it was co-produced by cartoon network. If you look at the Animation in Big O, it much closer to Batman:TAS then to your normal anime. Because of that, it didnt go over well in Japan.
Actually, proportional analysis has been allowed in cases such as this. The judge in this case did not accept it here. With the standards the judge set, it was impossible for Dino Rossi to win. Basically, he would have had to prove how each fraudulant voter cast their vote, something impossible to do.
Also, the Supreme Court did no such thing in 2000. In this case, Dino Rossi was ahead in the original count. He was ahead in the first recount. He was ahead in the second recount. It was only on the third recount when even more unsecured ballots were 'located' that he lost. In 2000, Gore was never ahead in any of the counts or selective recounts.
Republicans may have lost a Governorship in 2004 but they'll take one of Washingtons Senate seats from the Dems in 2006.
John Kerry attempted to get a deferment for school but was denied. When Kerry Signed up for Swift Boat duty, the SWB job was easy as they didnt go up river and only patroled the coast (where it was nice and safe). While he was in training, a new Admiral in charge changed the the operations of the SWB to do river runs, which was quite a bit dangerous.
Yea, John Kerry got pulled into Vietnam even though he didnt want to go. So he signed up for the easiest Navy duty he could find and it turned out that it was real war. So he tried to get a purple heart for every scratch he took so he could get out of Vietnam with asap.
Everquest has had NODROP items since the beginnings (or just about). The only exception is the Firona Vie server (Role-Playing). Here the only Nodrop items are epic quest related and some augmentations. But, there is a trivial loot code implemented so if a mob is x number of levels below you, he drops no loot if you kill.
You need to remember though. Babylon 5 set the bar by which sci-fi series are now rated on.
BS:G, SG:SG1, SG:A being better then B5. B5 forcing the last few seasons of DS9 to be respectable. B5 showing just how bad Voyager was.
Babylon 5 isn't the best sci-fi series today, it was the best sci-fi series when it was on. The simple fact that there are better series shows what an impact it had on sci-fi tv.
I'm not sure what you mean by Social Productivity, but as far as crime goes, with the exception of homicide, crime in New York is lower then crime in Paris.
Yea, I have to pay for health insurance, but i know my insurance is better then any socialized medicine (ask Canadians why they come to the US for operations).
No, I dont have to pay for education (except college). This is one area where the socialists in the US are winning. Even though I pay taxes for education, I wouldnt send my kid to the local schools.
They difference is, I trust people more then the government when it comes to peoples money. You dont.

I guess we should just say please and thank you instead to get the info we need?
Americans won't even accept the metric system for weights and measures, what makes you think that they will accept a change to their language?

Maybe you should tune into 60 minutes more often.
Last time I tuned into 60 minutes they were trying to tell me some document written in MS Word were actually written 30+ years ago on a typewriter.

It doesnt matter how the votes were cast.
It doesnt matter how the votes were collected.
It only mattered who counted the votes.
1750+ fraudulant votes in election where the winner and looser were seperated by 120 votes don't matter.
If you live in Washington state, next time you go to vote, go ahead and vote a few times. The state doesnt care.

Dang someone does not have a sense of humor and irony.
