I've seen a few job listings that even say something as obvious as "Ivy League Grads prefered"... so yea, there will always be some of those.
But you know something... that doesn't mean much. Some schools 30 years ago weren't what they are today. So does someone who graduated 30 years ago have the same value degree as someone who graduated today?
Is someone who learned computing with punchcards at MIT better at Java and more modern skills then a Geek at a county college? Not necessarally so. Could have no knowledge of computers after 1981.
[sarcasm] On the other hand: you can always move to india where you'll be very valued;-)... for $0.50/hr. [/sarcasm]
Am I really the only one who doesn't mind a fan?

Not that I want a helocopter in my PC... but what is the big deal? I don't put my ear to the computer, I leave it on the floor, next to the desk... and don't hear a thing with everyday ambient noise.
I think it's more about techical ability than actual noise.
Here's a briliant example of some executive who just hung himself... lets rundown the problems with this:
1. Spammers can start sending out spam with legitimate websites (against their concent), to get them into blacklists, and then DOS'd by this program... very simple strategy.
2. Lawsuits, Lawsuits, Lawsuits
3. Many of these companies run on shared servers. Now these servers have legitimate clients on them too. When the servers crash, the ISP has to offer something to keep clients... guess what angry ISP's do? That's right.
4. I'd say this could definately be considered criminal, considering the sole intention of this program is to commit a known attack method on another computer.
This may go as far as criminal... but safely going to lawsuits.
SBL's are great... but they do contain incorrect entries from time to time. Spammers have spammed legitimate websites simply to ensure SBL's aren't perfect. I don't recall anyone perfecting SBL's as of yet.
So I'd be very cautious about this one. I know I'm not going to get in on this action. I don't need some webhost calling up my ISP saying that I'm DOSing their servers.
I keep my geek skills as quiet as I can now. People know about them "online", but in real life....
I sometimes pretend to not know how to save to a floppy
(which is partially true, because I prefer USB Keychains, or connecting to my home fileserver).
I know it's mean... but it's the only way to keep a few hours in the day for me to do my work. Otherwise I get IM's, Emails, phone calls, etc. every few minutes with a stupid question.
So I simply pretend I don't know much about computers.
Occasionally, someone will *really* fall for it, and attempt to "help" (bother) me with their incorrect knowledge and obvious mistakes. About how a Mac uses a "different Internet", and AOL is the "original internet".
My favorite was when someone said to wash your hands after working in the computer lab, or you can get a virus on your home computer... and no, she wasn't talking about bacteria. But a computer virus. She said to wash my hands, and use a virus scanner once a week! Suprisingly she was blonde.:-D.
I'm sure he appreciates that though... even if his ISP doesn't.
Anyway... I'll be sure to keep him in mind. A real terrible ordeal.
Hopefully thanks to a slashdot linking, google will index that ASAP, and the next person to have these symptoms will benefit from his detailed posting.
Lets slashdot the BSA about this one? See if we can break a record on the number of reports the BSA ever recieved about something.:-D And see if they actually respond to them.
So this is what Bush had in mind when he said he wanted to rebuild relations with Europe. Violate yet another treaty.
Is there anyone here who still thinks Bush isn't looking for a war?/me can't stand presidents who urinate on the laws of our nation. Bush has a big bladder.
Any post insulting the RNC, or claim that America isn't the greatest, free country, George Bush isn't smart, and/or there aren't WMD in Iraq will be investigated.
Sorry, but I don't buy into it. And nobody here can legitimately say the votes are even counted.
It took dozens of hours, with a large staff to recount the Florida votes.
But they were able to do it realtime, during the actual election period.
So 2 senior citizens can count votes for an entire district (if they are all lucky to get 2)... but when a recount comes around, it takes an entire team of people with excellent vision days to recount.
reality: exit polls decide. Not actual votes.
I don't buy into this BS. It's already been decided. The results are already locked up on some FEC Server in Washington.
It's a figurehead position anyway. Get over it people. Just because they waste millions in advertising doesn't make the position worth anything. Is Microsoft better at security than Theo de Raadt because they have more money in the bank?
Grab a drink, sit back, and watch people literally attack each other over this sillyness. It's actually fun watching anarchy take place.
Doubleclick bought them years ago. They offered a free hosted form application. You could build forms online. Users enter data, and it's stored in the DB, easy to download/sort/sift.
Was a really great service. As a 14 year old shareware developer, I loved being able to get registration data via that system. Import it into ClarisWorks database.
DoubleClick bought and shut that down pretty quck.

a nice personal touch making the press photo's of circuitry on someone's bedspread.

Just like Intel
Move to India!
- Rent is cheap.
- Healthcare is plentiful and cheap. Americans go there for cheap surgery.
- Work for any American company you want!
Yea, it's sarcastic... but sadly, it's true.
That motion will be dropped quickly.
Asscroft and his buddies will be pushing to drop that.
If it isn't wiretapping, this makes yet another thing they can do with greater ease.

The photo's in the article link look somewhat fake. What's with the crosshairs... and the scenery that repeats itself. :-D
Sorry, couldn't resist.
For *once* I have to thank spammers for a job well done.
Now any chance on taking on SCO?
He's sick... so you slashdot his ass

They should let ARPA oversee the project.
Since it will be some type of a network.. they should call it ARPAnet...
It will cost billions because the idea of a decentralized network is a brand new concept. They may need to tap some nerds at MIT etc. for help.
Visit here:
:-D And see if they actually respond to them.

Say microsoft referred you...
fill it out, and send.
Then tell your friends.

I just grep'd my access log file to see what I get...
I get very similar results as the article discusses, except with the IP 65.54.188.149.
grep for 65.54.188... lets see what others get.
it's nice seeing the first screenshot on a Mac.
Just something friendly about that.
Now hopefully the Gods will kick him in the ass.
AOL announced the other day, a new logo... pretty much the AOL logo on it's side.
AOL logo has 3 corners... so they create 4 divisions.
Just shows how well thought out and planned AOL is.
It's an F***ing mess.

Funny... people don't like the truth, so they call it "Trolling".
/. reader mentality.
Now when people said 2 years ago "Mozilla is bloated", they need to make a slim browser... that was trolling.
Now 2 years later, Firefox is god, slim, fast, and extendable.

telling everyone who isn't the US to go F*ck themselves.
Shocked? I think not. I'm suprised it took this long.
