Tolkien's only achievement was writing something long and consistent, giving up completely on deep characterization and interesting plot. I really don't get why people admire him so much. Hell, I'd take J.K. Rowling over him every day, even though I don't like her much either.

Your theory seems to be that they worry more

I have no theory, I just asked a question.

If somebody is happy and comfortable inside, they can just give you their real opinion

Maybe if someone happy, he doesn't feel that urge to say his opinion all the time. I think that people that feel the need to state their opinion constantly usually have some problems (I am one of those people btw).

happy because they ignore those types of distractions

I agree that being able to concentrate is an important step on the way to happiness. I just don't understand how facebook is different from mobile games or television or any other form of background noise that grabs away people's attention. How is checking facebook constantly any different than checking your email constantly or playing solitiare every 15 mins?

Is the way people stare at their phone all day for perceived comfort not childlike and maladaptive?

Childlike yes, maladaptive no. In our age, it seems like the norm is to be a child. It is the person who insists on not being a sheep who is maladaptive.

Anyway, I'm a heavy facebook user, I'm probably connected most of the day. I try to avoid to let it distract me. I barely read the feed, I don't put any pictures of myself, but I do use it a lot to communicate with friends. Hell, I actually prefer facebook since it is less distracting than a cellphone with its constant rings. On facebook it is ok for you to answer after an hour, while in cellular people expect you to answer immediately. I really think it is a matter of choosing to be a responsible adult, and just assuming that everybody who uses mobiles (I use a wifi tablet) and facebook is automatically inferior to you.

Homophobic is the word that refers to people who are against consensual homosexual sex. While it is not accurate, it is the best one that I know. If you have a better one, you are welcomed to teach it to me. If not, I will just continue with "homophobic" because most people, including you I believe, know what I mean.

  17. Re: What about Gay AND Jewish? on Google's Sentiment Analyzer Thinks Being Gay Is Bad (vice.com) · · Score: 3, Insightful

I am Jewish and living in Israel and what you are saying is a lie that some of our religious people spread in order to pretend to integrate with western culture.

"If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads." - This is Leviticus 20:13, part of the Jewish bible.

Furthermore, you should ask yourself, if Jewism has nothing against homosexuality, how come in Israel gay marrige are prohibited while they are legal in countries that have a high percentage of Christians?

The conservative and reform Jewism are not homophobic, but the orthodox Jews, those who represented jewism for the last few hundred years, those who are the majority here in Israel, they are homophobic just like Christian and Muslim friends.
