and the article fails to address the issue that this technology could become so painless that you do not even realize that you are receiving drugs. This becomes very scary.

I'm betting that every special effect in the movie is right there in that trailer - watching the film would only mean more dialog by that jut-jawed goth chick. I can only imagine how painful this would be.
Only one good thing could possibly come of this, and it involves a comic insult dog.

hmm. I find this a little hard to believe. My guess would be that there is a strong correlation between pro-lifers and Christianity, but you're arguing causation. As far as I am aware, a belief that life begins at conception is not biblical or taught as Christian dogma.

Do you have any empirical backing for this bold statement?

  8. Re:Power Consumption? on Nanotech Based Display · · Score: 2, Insightful

I'm guessing this is nowhere near ready for video rate stuff - in which case you're probably right - during normal operation it would probably use more power, but I'm guessing most of the power modern monitors consume is with the screen just sitting there idle while the user reads something on the page or is away eating lunch.

However, for something like an e-book or a clock display the necessary refresh rate/percentage is relatively low - making this system optimal. Also, not having a backlight should save quite a bit of power too (however, I suppose at times a front light will be needed).

huh? since when is L:P admin:admin or South:Station or wifi:wifi considered a perfectly good lock? If you believe that, I have an oragami based home-security system I would like to sell you.

This is a relatively formal security report - and I certaintly feel that I have right to know that a major wifi network that I might pay to use (with my CC# mind you) is compromised severly in security. Kudos for the publicity - he also mentions that he attempted private contact before writing this paper. Publishing this makes the purpotrater (South Station for acting under the pretention of providing a secure network) and potential victims (customers) very aware of the need to reconfigure the network.
75 out of 100 people that might have discovered this trick would have left it as "hey cool, free wifi access for me and my buds," another 20 or so out of 100 would have done much worse (we're talkin' goatse on the homepage).
At worst this was a subtle brag of "L33tness", at best a noble public security gesture.

and hey, if you lose your job at guestBox over this - I hear Diebold is looking for a few good men...

Agreed. An artist actually did a display like this at my university - the reconstructions were much much better (almost completely unnoticable) - granted she got to choose her photos (good old fashion 18+ regular porn-all from the internet). My response to that exhibit was firstly - dammitt! why didn't she post the "before" pictures next to her edited versions. wish I could recall her name.

However, the combination of the subject material here, and the shoddy (yet perfectly sufficient - let's not nitpick) reconstructions here definatley give me the creeps.

But it certainly changes what you label as and interpret to be fact. I mean, c'mon, you are obviously a maniacal lunatic about this subject - you have deluded yourself into thinking that walmart customers are both stupid idiots AND that everyone is forced to shop there - even your contrived, misconstrued "facts" contradict each other.
it's a waste of ATP to argue with your points, but I somehow feel at least partially obliged.

First- speaking of facts Costco is not at all out of business

meditate on which is more likely, that millions of customers are all stupid idiots or that people actually make an intelligent decision to save their money and shop at a place they like, if you are blinded by numbing rage or if probability does not suit you well, consider the possibility that those millions of people may well believe that you are a stupid idiot.

Over 90% of shoppers arrive at walmart by automobile, most towns are within 50 miles of towns that have not been "plagued" by walmarts, modern day automobile technology easily allows for transporting upwards of 5people/vehicle that distance - no one is forced to shop anywhere any more than you are forced to keep consuming massive quantities of cheese-puffs

killing people is not likely good for a town's local economy at all.
