Is it just me, or are a lot of people asking the government to regulate our businesses?
Is it that simple for you? I see this type of remark so often: "Slashdot is obviously for (pick one: socialists, leftists, etc, on and on.)" Could it be that progressive thought and high-tech thought often go hand-in-hand? Could it be that the most respected members of a nerd site are wont to challenge the old, perhaps stagnant ways? Reality evolves, progresses, does the Cha Cha if you will. BTW: Since you may not have been paying attention, the opponents of net-neutrality aren't the good-guys either. -- As Colbert rightly pointed out: Reality has a liberal bias.
Sir, I don't see how, according to your requirements, the nano was "completely ill suited." Must have large capacity: You buy a 2 gig nano? Will 4 gigs do? I think they have those. Must have a display: ??? Last time I looked at mine, the nano has that. Must be rugged: http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/nano.ars/3
Yes, something seems wrong here. "I prefer to use windows media player...." Hey, to each his own; but this smells fishy.
Also, your aversion to being seen as "too metrosexual" is interesting. Do you consider 70% (or is it 80% now?) of MP3-player owners frighteningly "stylish"?
This is a sort of grammar pet peeve for me and I know it's confusing. Laser printer resolution, for example, is gauged by "dots per inch." [Keep this under your hat, but the density of dots you see on printouts are actually a function of the "line-screen"(!)]
It's nuts, but it helps to think of the dots as made of pixels, or dixels.
I'm surprised that Apple often gets this wrong--being in the business of high-quality graphics and all. Quark (God forbid) calls pixels "dots," too. Strange but true: my colleagues in graphic design usually don't know the difference.
Agreed. I won't argue about price. Macs cost more. [For me, Macs give more, too.] Value is perceived and is always arguable. It is not a matter of penny-pinching for me. I want a rare animal for my PC. I like that Apple's prices have come down. But no way will I put up with something inferior that is important to me just to "save money." But it seems like the only thing that the Mac bashers have left... Sweet! -- "Overpriced" is in the heart of the $ holder.
If they want to keep fighting for generations, their "soldiers" will remain incarcerated for generations. Innocents get killed in war, and they also get jailed unfairly. As soon as the insurgents stop fighting then everyone will get the fair treatment that they deserve.
In other words, "they" set US policy, "they" control the limits of our democracy, "they" have already won.:'(
We must refuse to play nice until everybody loves us again! -- Things were perfect before...
Should the original "owners" associated with the name Apple sit on it indefinitely? Are they fairly entitled to stand in the way of younger generation businesses? Can a trademark be valid if nothing is really traded on it? Doesn't infringement require there be provable detrimental effects?
So sorry, try again. You obviously still miss the point. But it is degrading to resort to explaining the very thing that was just explained to you by GP--whom you deign to "correct."
Focus on this: "It's a status thing more than a practical thing, that's true..."
Yes, irrefutable evidence is good (tapes, smoking guns, notarized photos of Rove designing "Buttzilla.")
Still, there will be those who will not smell the shit, even when it's right there, on their plates. Brave souls are surely joining the critical mass -- witnesses to all the fuck-ups and betrayals. Again, as with Vietnam, so many will first have to eat the shit in order to know for sure. Evolution is sooo slowwwwww!
We need a buildup of speculation to prime the pump of investigation. Do you need video of Cheney literally twisting arms? You might get that...
Just as you have inferred from Wilkerson using speculation that he is playing games, the man has inferred something from Cheney spending perhaps an inordinate about of time at Intelligence. Suckers who don't want to believe are everywhere, too.
2) I don't think most people's parents are worried about running MS Flight Sim, Realflight G3 and Battlefield... In fact 99% of what runs exclusively in Windows _will_not_ matter much to them.
3) The hardware they need _will_ work with the Mac.
4) Popularity of problems is not a great selling point anyway.
You address the wrong point: little concept called interoperability = red herring (for you at least).
The bets are on as to how soon those Longhorn viruses and worms come out after Longhorn is released.
Rest assured that Microsoft® is already hard at work on ensuring release day compatibility with all popular viral and spyware code. Thank you for your interest in Microsoft!
Where I work the expression used is, "The point is mute." You know, like the opinion of them, those whatchmajiggers, with the toilet paper.

Is anyone else more than mildly disappointed that they own a bookshelf full of O'reilly books after reading this?
Now, I didn't RTFA but I can comment intelligently on it.
Registering "Web 2.0" is dumb.

P.S. O'Reilly books are still f'intastic.

Adobe gets it right.

Thanks for listening

"Overpriced" is in the heart of the $ holder.
Thank you for posting exactly what I was thinking.
If they want to keep fighting for generations, their "soldiers" will remain incarcerated for generations. Innocents get killed in war, and they also get jailed unfairly. As soon as the insurgents stop fighting then everyone will get the fair treatment that they deserve.

Things were perfect before...
I live in Minnesota, too.
So, you're saying you prefer the original, bloated office application that doesn't work properly... but costs a lot more?

Get out of my state, Red.
Wow!
patents protect the little guy,
free thinkers are criminals,
anti-capitalistic == b.s.,
rational criticism is crying...
Sir, my hat is off to you.
You are a dying breed.
SIGH--still not quick enough, I think.

See, on one hand, AOL may be shooting itself if the foot (hehe)...
On the other, this could be a "money makes you a legitimate, spammer" precedent.

I hate these choices.

What's scary to me: Parent post getting modded "Insightful"

This guy may just be one of those former suckers.
True dat,
It is actually a unique pleasure to listen to Sen. Obama.
Interesting that the defenders of all things Micro$haft on Slashdot will come out in droves under the banner of "...Sucks Most of the Time"
Ever have a week-old eMac die in your arms, pal?
1) Familiarity...problems...hope... umkay.

BTW, MacOS *X* does not suck. Really.
You hate people who think of freedom when they hear the word "free?" Guess who needs "a life."
If ESR meets your definition of idiot, I'd like to know of whom you'd call a genius...
as always, too late.
