Maybe the next Java for the Mac won't suck. Their implementation has been crippled with memory leaks and is always back rev. It's slow and clunky and I've always had the impression that they intentionally developed it that way so people wouldn't use it. Good riddance.
I know 2 people that own iPads: a 60-something guy with a GED that spent his life working as a clerk or a delivery guy and never complained about it and a 91 year old WW2 vet that became a real estate agent after the war. What they both have in common? They're both really inquisitive and they both love new technology. Neither of them are selfish or elite.
We've suffered this case for how many years and this is their evidence? Someone tell me that they actually had a software engineer with extensive multi-generation and cross platform software development experience testify. Code like "if (foo->bar == 0) return 0; return foo->bar;" simply DOES NOT qualify as duplicated code. This is their evidence? Come on.
Start a consulting business removing viruses from folks' Windows boxes. That's what I did after I quit my job and pissed away my life's savings on an idea that only I thought was a good idea.
Slackware v0.0something around 1994. Stored on and ran off a 5.25" floppy on a 386-25 with 256K of RAM and a 40Mb disk. Or 192K/20Mb. It was 20 computers ago and hundreds of OSs ago. I ran it long enough to say "this sucks" and went back to my brand-X SVR4 install which was installed off of about 50 3.5" floppies.
I just upgraded my quad-core box with 4G RAM/500G Rust from Hardy to Jaunty yesterday from an ISO I downloaded.
I think the more important point is that old farts like me (45 yrs old, 20 yrs since my B.S.C.S.) are still useful, but since I'm not fluent in the 100 different web technologies (I don't recall all the acronyms), I'm not employable. My salary is too high and I'm not a JBoss guru (and I have a real dislike for Windows). My options are to find a new profession or become a PHB. Yeah, that's it. Get stupid and become a manager.
That new career in woodworking is looking real promising.
I hacked a M$ gateway, a VMS box, and got inside. They've actually written a PL/1 interpreter in C# and rewrote the entire database in it. It's worth noting that the C# virtual machine that is running the PL/1 virtual machine runs under a CMS session within a VM emulator on top of a software S390 processor under Linux inside of M$ virtual PC. Locutus is still waiting for the arrival of a PC that supports the terabyte of RAM required to run the new product though.
Hollywood will go bust. Yeah, bite me. I'd rather watch the movie on my big screen at home anyway. The local theatre is run by kids who don't control the sound and the screen has holes in it.
I've got a Sony Mavica MVC-CD200 that writes the pictures on a CD.
I take pictures that I wouldn't otherwise take because I've got the storage.
And when the disk fills up it gets filed.
Professional photographers don't have such equipment? Even if they don't, they don't file their
photos on a CD-R?
