This is what we should do in Norway as well. Would save companies a lot of money - no more "I've been on a bender, so I'll just take a day off!". Right now it's 100% from day 1 for 14 days, after that, the government foots the bill, and it's costing companies lots of money every year!
I actually believe that only persons without beliefs can be real, good humans, as they're the only ones who are not pressured into doing good deeds without the threat of some kind of deitys wrath. I do not trust the others to be 100% unselfish.
Sorry, but do you know how stupid your comment is? If this wasn't possible, the government wouldn't be able to buy any goods or services from private companies. Not even a police car.
It worries me that something as simple as a Raspberry Pi is offered to all Cambridge undergrads, though. This is supposed to be the best university in the country - why are there people being admitted to its courses who aren't already playing with stuff like this in their spare time as kids?

You obviously haven't worked at McDonald's!
I'm glad I live in a area of the world were this kind of behaviour is illegal!
Sorry, but you cannot compare US and their states to Europe and their contries
"Those" billions? It's one billion, singular.
The US government spends 19% on defense, 19% on social security, and 20% on healthcare. The last two items are expected to grow much faster than the first.
That percentage always grow in civilised countries. Luckily!
I doesn't help when the CIO approves it, I tell you that. At least the CFO listen to consultants, but when the CIO runs it, they know even better!
Rovers and robots are very robust things, but that level of assembly requires humans still.
Nah, we [where I work that is] do this with robots already thousands of feet under the surface of the sea! Only difference is the ping time.
Well... not the right guy - he's missing something when it comes to ignoring the other side, but it's far better than the alternative.
[...]what else is in the way of making 2013 the year of the Linux desktop?
Gnome
Erh, the problem here is that Swedes recycles too much!
That's only ~1227C - that's not even enough to melt Manganese

Slackware (some time in '97) - briefly tried Red Hat, Suse and Turbo Linux, but went back to Slackware in '98, and have been stuck there since.
Slackware covers all your needs - you don't need any other distro.
Kebab restaurants!

You and 80,000 other slashdotters! I call dibs on doing the books! Will probably be the only one and guaranteed seat ;)
What's wrong with selecting women based on their hair colour and size of tits?
Yeah, iPad and iPhone is a good proof of that!
It already is the user's choice? Or did I miss something?
It worries me that something as simple as a Raspberry Pi is offered to all Cambridge undergrads, though. This is supposed to be the best university in the country - why are there people being admitted to its courses who aren't already playing with stuff like this in their spare time as kids?
Probably because they know what a girl is?
100 GBP at the pub is just a couple of glasses of good whisky! Expensive hobby, but worth it!
That's not hard - just listen to them!
Yeah, some users need it written in English. They don't speak gibberish like we do.
So this is why Norway, after US, is their 2nd most imporant market?
