They all want you to do 50/50. Which I did the first time. Sold 100 ish coupons. 5$ gets you 10$ so I got 2.50 per coupon. Next time I only agreed if they were ok with giving me 65% which they did. And I did 60% with the third company. All together we sold about 600 coupons. The redemption rate is really spread out as it has been a few months already and I have not seen 50% redemption rate yet. Not too hard on the business. Some people do buy over their coupon limit too so it helps offsetting any potential losses. Some people on the other hand will make it as close as possible to 10$. I didn't go with groupon because they are too big and I am worried I would sell too many and hinder the efficiency of the business if we saw too many redemption and would have a hard time handling it. You don't want to loose your regulars either.
That is wrong. I have used Wagjag, Kijijideals.ca and Teambuy to offer deals for my business and you get paid no matter if the coupons are redeemed or not. Some company pay you a lump sum payment as per the % you agreed to, Others spread it over a few months in order to make sure you keep honoring the coupons I guess.
I agree this business model is doomed and unless they reduce their margin drastically, and even then, we will see the end of this sooner than later. My business is a fast food restaurant and I made sure it would cover my food cost because not everyone buying is a new customer. We sold a lot to regulars who would have come anyways. TeamBuy told me about 10% of the coupons end up not being redeemed after a year.
I remember watching something on TV where they were saying that producing Hydrogen requires just as much energy from different sources (like oil) as it is required to run a regular car with oil. Like at the end it would create just as much pollution.
This post could also be Wheere is the weirdest place you've used internet since almost everytime I go online, I take a peak at/..
I was living in Tunisia, North Africa, for four months and I have been able to do my Internet stuff in a Publinet (Internet Café). I think it was around 2$ CAD per hour(Cheap for us, but you can get a pop for 0.40$ there, and a meal for 3$ at a fast food place, so it's not so cheap for them) About 15-20 computers were sharing a slow DSL connection.
You have no idea how slow it could be when the place was packed. Still, I've been able to control my computer located in Canada thru WinVNC using the low quality/bandwith options AND read Slashdot.
First I want to say that I'm happy to see this topic on/. as I assume a lot of people like him are visiting this site.
Then here is my story. I use to get good marks at school without having to do homework at home. Even at college I was getting good scores in classes that didnt require any time from me at home. Then I tried going to the University. What the guy from the previous post said if absolutely true. Do not waste your time at school if you are not ready to work. I was partying a lot and tought I could go thru everything easily w/o putting effort into it. Guess what... I failed all but one of the five classes I was attending and got a "D" in the one i passed heh.
Trust me.. I'm not a jackass.. I have always been in the top 5 at school and even if I know/think myself that I'm probably smarter than a lot of people, that is a shared idea among people I know.
The university thing was 2 years ago.. I though about it and I think the timing was just bad. Too much drinking.. too many friends and unfortunately too much self confidence in my school capabilities. I learned a lot about myself after that episode of my life.
So I was there with a computer science degree from college (3 years long) looking for a job in something related to my degree. I knew what I was able of and I was living in a foreing region in Quebec/Canada. All I could find there were jobs at 10$CAD an hour and I wasn't going to let an employer use my knowledge for such a small salary. I kept looking around and finally joined the canadian army. They gave me a rank promotion because of my degree and started at 43 000/year CAD.
I had some working experience in the IS world, I thought I would love it, and I did. The point is that I was doing too much computer at work and didnt feel like using or playing on mine after work. So I was just bored on the computer at night. Now that I am in the army.. I do a relax job wich I enjoy (working outside, traveling, got to learn english, lot of friends across canada.. etc) and when I go home at night, I am now able to use my computer as a hobby again.
The point: Find a job you enjoy.. it doesn't have to be a programming job.. or sysadmin job. As long as you enjoy it you will be happy and have a great life. If you are like me and like money.. make sure that the salary is good. I don't regret anything and if I was to start over... I would just put more effort into schoolwork at University and I'm sure that would have lead me somewhere interesting. I might go back to school later.. I don't know.. All I know is that I'm happy the way I live right now.

I was approached by Groupon as well. They have the same business model and they pay you per coupon sold as well. I should have mentioned it.
