Which hurts MSFT more? Buying an xbox, or buying a PS2?
Well, actually last I remembered, MSFT looses money on every XBOX they sell. So I would have to say that buying an XBOX and using it only as a CD/DVD player would probably hurt them the most...
Forgive me if I come off sounding snide, but you really should have done your research. Intel has at least for the last 4 years been differentiating between their desktop processors and their mobile processors. You can always tell this because laptop processors are distinguished with the word "mobile". It's not that tricky, and is why I waited a few extra monthes for laptops to start using the mobile processors in their laptops instead of the full-blown model
I'm sure they will use it and they can keep using it, but they will still stop supporting it down the road (unless, I'm sure you're willing to pay a hefty sum, which we do know the gov won't mind doin). Besides win2k was already given a time to live a few monthes ago, when oems are to stop shipping machines with it.
Of course not. If they discontinue it, then most users will be forced into either running an unstable version of XP, or a stable version running XP SP1, which also has that oh-so-nice EULA. I'm sure not that many 2k users hurried up to upgrade to SP3 (even those who dont know about the EULA) cause its plain and simply as solid as an M$ OS can be. If they discontinue it, then they will be able to start "spreading out" their "new" EULA... just my 2c.
I don't remember if this was ever posted to/., but this summer I was reading an article in some magazine, where supposedly a group stood across the street of some high-security military building (I want to say pentagon, but I'm not 100% sure) and was able to sniff the wireless network name. They then did a DOS on one of the APs, stole it's IP and had full access to the wireless part of the network. Now granted the wireless network was not connected to anything "too sensitive" but was used to control all of the security cameras... There's our tax dollars at work for you. It was supposedly fixed immediately once they were contacted about the whole... Just thought of this as I was reading and figured I'd share.
Quite true, but the difference is with Trillian you must still have an account on each of the systems, however, when AOL "officially" makes the systems interoperable you will be able to use an ICQ account to message someone using an AIM account. I do say, however, Trillian is great, I've been using it for over a year.
Longhorn is not alone insulting. UT's mascot is the Longhorn, so its insulting for m$ to be codenaming one of their OS's the same thing. Granted, I'm sure that they are not naming it after our mascot, but nevertheless just the idea of being "associated" with it sucks.
I know this was already addressed a few months ago, but even today, I, being a student from the University of Texas, am greatly offended by codename for the next version of Windows... I sure do not think that those two things should bear ANY resemblance, but that's just my 2c.
I was not a Darth Maul fan before. Truthfully I didn't have a clue what his role was other than the fact that he was a Sith (very apparent from the previews) and has some badass fighting skills, or why else would they cast a martial arts master. I dressed up as him because I thought I could come up w/ a really sweet costume for it (which I did... some little kid coming out of the theatre stopped dead in his tracks and started crying when he saw me:) ). I figured Obi-wan was very easily done and it was why I didn't dress up as him.
I don't feel that I fell under the hype as you so suggest. I've been waiting for these movies years before most of the public knew about them (ie, when only the fans that paid attention knew of them). I missed the release of the originals by a few years (born in 81, and my 'rents are not star wars nuts), so to me this was a really big thing. Granted, I went to the opening night of every one of the rereleases which was a big deal, but it was nothing new. So to answer your question as to why I dressed up? Not because of the hype, but because I'd been so excited to finally see them after years of waiting that I wanted to do everything to make that movie/night as memorable as possible. And believe me, I will never forget that little kid that started crying when he saw my costume.
Not at all!!! I'm a huge fan. Camped out for ep I, dressed up as Darth Maul (makeup took over 2 hours to do and cost me over $100), saw it at least 6 times and there was no way in hell I was gonna dl a vcd of it before seeing it. I waited till after the movie was no longer in the theatres and before it was released on vhs. Hell, I even had a copy of the book, which I refused to read until after i saw it. I had the vanity fair that had the scrolling text, but I made sure not to glance at it.
I would have camped out for ep II this year, but my city didnt have much demand, so I was able to just walk up and buy my 12:01 tickets. There is NO way that I want to spoil that feeling that I get when I see "Lucas Arts Presents" show up on the screen... I got goosebumps last time. I'll again wait to dl the vcd when there is no other possible way for me to see it.
My point is the real diehards are gonna want to "savor" that 12:01 moment when "LucasArts Presents" shows up on the big screen.
My personal opinion, Dell... That is once you get through to them. The display in my last laptop went bad a few monthes into getting it. I called up, and once I managed to talk to a real person, they scheduled Airborne Express to come to my dorm and pick it up from me the next day. The guy arrived on time, and put the laptop back in my hands in just under 48 hrs. When they made that repair they ended up frying my modem (how i really dont know), which i didnt realize for a few monthes later, I called again, and they sent someone to meet me at work. Again, I had the laptop returned in 48 hours. My experience with their support was very friendly and helpful. The only problem I had was that it would generally take at least a half hour to get off of hold... thank god for speaker phone...

Just like the RIAA could sell CDs for $5.95 and still make a profit. These guys make me sick!
<sarcasm>But then the artists won't make any money. And after all, the RIAA is only doing this for the artists... or so they claim</sarcasm>

When I rad "Dot-Com Dorm" first thing that popped into my mind was a dorm where they placed all the students destined to flunk out... my bad

But can you get it to run linux?!?

Red Bull also increases the flow of blood/oxygen because of the guarana (sp?) to the brain, thus bringing more alcohol to the brain quicker...
But, aw hell... it just tastes so damn good... heh
6.) Get Linux running on it
he was killed in 6th sense...

I think he is referring to the need of a server, not a client

I might also mention that the trailer was shown at the beginning of Episode II. (just got back)

Do you honestly believe that all 200 million internet users will be downloading this?!?

Is it just me, or does this thread seem to have transformed /. into one giant classified ads section.
"My company will host for only..."
You idiot. Thats Benjamin Franklin! Communist my ass...
I know, it was meant as sarcasm... but thanks for the extra tidbit...
