According to that link there is no problem. Anyone with some scripting experience can change it to an "opt-in" service for -every- Road Runner customer.
Road Runner does not seem to do any sort of verification that the subscriber ID belongs to the user who is changing the setting; if I provided you with the appropriate link, you could easily opt me in or out of the service.

there are only 16,777,216 possible unique subscriber IDs. It would probably take less than an hour for a script to turn the service off for everyone

It's interesting that the "crispness" of the shadows is lauded in the Direct X 10 shots of Bioshock, but the "softer, more natural looking shadows" of the Direct X 10 shots of Call of Juarez are considered superior. What's going on here?
In fact I'd spend a lot of the money on getting everyone (or as many projects as I could) to agree to a configuration file format that could easily be interpreted by an application. A one-size-fits-all library could be written to get the settings from file into memory and back again, then it would just be a matter of organising that data into a front-end that's meaningful for the user.
Sounds like XML and the myriad of libraries that support it. The problem with XML (ignoring the buzz inspired bias against it) is for any given application, a custom configuration file format would be much less verbose. As far as "one-size-fits-all" goes, I can't think of any.conf I've edited that couldn't be expressed in XML.
All is not as it appears. C-SPAN wants to cover everything that happens on the floor. As it is now the House controlled cameras don't cover the entire room and are forbidden from certain areas all together. No pan or zoom and broadcast of votes is delayed by two hours.
What's the point of free access to archived footage if you can't tell what is actually happening?
The article claims it can be used to "mop up bioterror agents". Is anyone else sick of how every new invention is measured by it's usefulness to fight terrorism?
You can do something like this with the Firebird browser. There's an option to disable loading images from a site other than the one you're viewing. It would be nice to specify images that link to other sites, however.
Instead of begging for hardware manufacturers to force you to turn off better looking texture filtering or antialiasing, why don't you just go into the game options and lower the graphic detail yourself?
Or did you think these "application specific optimizations" did something else? I didn't actually think someone would have fallen for the marketing spin on this trend. *sigh*

The number two "key phrase" listed by Amazon for this book is "chicken parm"

His point was that we haven't. That's why he brought up the WTC, a modern building brought down by an aircraft induced fire.

Do not try to answer the question... that's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth... There is no answer.

Must have been a typo.

The only people effected by this will be the owners of cellphones capable of displaying pornography. Fortunately, my phone has a text only display.
You all had better listen to Woofles. He's from the -future-!
Glad I stuck with ROT13.
And you all said I was a fool!

Does anybody actually play Half-Life? I only bought it for the excellent mods. Day of Defeat and Counter Strike top my list there.
