In this case in particular I think we have a reason to be paranoid. The ever changing doc format is one of the big drivers of Office upgrades and that's a significant part of their income. A standardized forward compatible file format is not in their best interest. Forward compatible file formats aren't that hard to create and make things much easier for users and administrators. If they were concerned at all they would have done that years ago. So no, I don't trust them and I won't even give them the benefit of the doubt until I see Balmer and Gates step down.
Yes they can but, in this case, I doubt it. 1) Open standards are bad for their monopoly. 2) They are getting involved with the OpenDocument group. 3) What do you think?
That is also how they got it more secure. Less backward compatability == simpler == more secure (usually). I won't believe Windows is more secure until I see a lot of poorly written apps break. Especially the stuff that required admin privileges to run. They need to let the bad old software die or only support it in some sort of sandbox/VM.
Oooohhhh. Evil lair with hot chicks in jumpsuits, and guards with machine guns and poor aim. If it's a really good evil lair there will be lava pools with catwalks over them.
This is business as usual for MS. We've got a spate of bad news so the stock drops a bit. In a few days they'll announce something shiny and it will jump back up. Then, lots of people who aren't me will make lots of money.
I'm 44. I used to go to a mall with a friend and play games back in the mid 70's. There was no arcade. Just various machines spread out across the mall. There were the pinball machines, the early mechanical games like the one with the helicopter that you really flew (I really liked that one) and others. Then they installed Pong, Gunfight, Space Race and others. I never got tired of it. I played a heck of a lot of arcade games in the early 80's. Then had the Colecovision (plus the 2600 adapter), C-64, NES, SNES, PCs, Game Boy, GC, PS2, GBA, GBA-SP, NDS. I still remember playing Doom on dialup with my friend for hours until our hands and eyes hurt (BTW don't do that). I still play UT2004 and my current favorites are mostly on the DS (Metroid Prime: Hunters!). My big problem is finding time to play. I tend to buy more games then I'm going to get to play. Maybe some day when I'm retired I'll get play them all, for old times sake.
I've always liked those. They would make a fine RFC. That way you could get rid of the X-. Now, they just have to get them written up and submitted to the IETF before the 1st of next month.
Well, I saw a webpage in IE the other day and I thought the flashy ads and popups were going to blind me. Yes, IE's future is bright in a staring-into-the-sun-with-no-eye-protection sort of way.
Ahhh, you hit the nail on the head. We want off the shelf standardization. Applications that can talk to, output for and import from other applications in a known format (standards anyone?). MS apps rarely do this. MS apps tend to only talk to other MS apps of the same generation. Upgrade one and you need to upgrade them all. Off the shelf works when you're dealing with loosely coupled, standardized interfaces. Otherwise it's harder to maintain then customized solutions.
Easybuntu looks pretty good. Automatix borked my Gnome setup so I think I'll just pave the machine and reinstall and try Easybuntu. Well, that is when I get it fixed. My box is a brick right now after clearing the CMOS. It just hasn't been right since I dropped it on my foot.
There are ginger teas that are very good for such things. Check your local health food store. Ginger snaps are good too. Tasty as well. The Whole Foods here has some of the best ginger snaps I've ever had.

OK, now you've done it.
perl -e 'print join(",", 1, 2, 3, 4);'
I thought the same thing. We're both getting old.

They may after the Singularity. It may just mean changing your avatar though.
I like mine long because I've got a bit of a bald spot on top.
Well, yes. It works for me. The long hair and beard thing go over a lot better if they have some grey in them.

They had a whole bin full at Costco here last Saturday.
Now we know. Iceland wants to RULE THE WORLD! Muahahahahahahahahahaha!
Yes, and that made elementary school geography that much harder.
Then there was that Mr. Spock - Dr. Spock thing...
Ahhhh! I'm going back to my happy place.
Ummm, could it be Peter Jackson?

I don't think they got it. My inlaws live in OK and TX so I had to.

Wait a few months then the cycle begins again.

If you want it to go REALLY fast you gotta put yellow stripes on it.

Actually, it's worse then that. What's "Harmful to minors"?

I forget how nice it is with FF and AdBlock+.
"FYI, IE7 also has tabs and a little search box."
Isn't that just lipstick on a pig?
