Very true. There was only so much Tarzan, Tiswas, Swap Shop and No. 73 that I could watch. Bring back Metal Mickey, Joe 90, Thunderbirds, The Banana Splits and Electrawoman.
More importantly, are the connectors gold, platinum or silver plated. That makes all the difference in sound quality. You don't want your "Down on the Corner" played by Creedence Clearwater sounding like a busker in a subway station.
Some airlines (particularly African airlines) would charge international passengers a small "fee" for using a set of headphones, around one or two US dollars or English pound notes. People would get around this by buying adaptors for converting a set of standard headphones to the connectors used by the airplane headphone system.
Have you not heard of the Open University that is run by the BBC? . You an cregister for the course, get the course materials sent to you by post, and the lectures would be broadcast on TV at the odd hours that no-one else would be watching. In those days, the main channels only started at 9.00am for school programming, and closed down at 12.00pm . Between those hours , Open University lectures would be broadcast, and repeated on the weekends. That allowed people to work their day jobs and study part-time, even more so if they had VCR.

When Saturday morning kid's TV was boring, you could just change channels and watch presentation on mobius strips, fitting cubes into spheres, coastal erosion, the dangers of matching the harmonics of airplane engines/wings, bridges and wind speed, lasers and travel at relativistic light speeds.
One reason for the scientific decline can be traced back to the 10th century, when the orthodox school of Ash'ari theology challenged the more rational school of Mu'tazili theology. Other reasons include conflicts between the Sunni and Shia Muslims, and invasions by Crusaders and Mongols on Islamic lands between the 11th and 13th centuries, especially the Mongol invasions of the 13th century. The Mongols destroyed Muslim libraries, observatories, hospitals, and universities, culminating in the destruction of Baghdad, the Abbasid capital and intellectual centre, in 1258, which marked end of the Islamic Golden Age.[20]

A similar thing is happening in Burma. They are more or less in the second day:
The morning of December 18, the centre was being guarded by soldiers and Securitate-agents in plainclothes. Mayor Mo ordered a Party gathering to take place at the University, with the purpose of condemning the "vandalism" of the previous days. He also declared martial law, prohibiting people from going about in groups larger than two people.
Ya! This is the spelling nazi weekly meeting. That said, i'm not quite certain how "exploiting technology developed for students who are deaf or hard of hearing" can possibly be patented... i mean could the "usage of wheels to help aeroplanes take off" ever be granted a patent?
Web transcription services for podcasts - you extract the audio channel from a podcast as an MP3 file, upload the file to the transcription services server. The file is chopped up into separate pieces, with each piece transcribed separately. Each piece is re-edited until it is up to scratch. Then the pieces are spliced together with the splices removed. The resulting transcription is returned to the submitter.
It is a complicated process, so it could possibly patented.
Really, it's much like the pre-1950's accounting services in large corporations. Before they had mainframes to do batch processing, they would employ huge halls of clerks to do the accounting manually. Everything was tallied and cross-checked at each stage to make sure
The bird's retina is curved like a parabolic dish. The magnetic field lines would be like a whole bunch of straight lines going through space. Depending upon the angle that the field lines make with each cell, a different response would be given. If you were to visualise this, it would probably look like the Sun seen through thin clouds - a fuzzy point of light surrounded by a halo.
That's not to say that it may actually be perceived as something visible by the birds. If you walk past a heat lamp that is on, you are aware that there is something hot nearby, even if you cannot see it. And there is also that instinct that instructs birds to give up nesting and feeding and to suddenly decide it's much better to join the flock and start flying to wherever.
That's the fun part of these automatic translators - put in perfectly good English, translate to a foreign language, and translate back to English. Good fun for a rainy afternoon.
"Today is under construction... please do not be alarmed by the construction men hanging themselves from outside your balcony. We will take them down tomorrow..."
And if you multiply all that up for 25 million households (UK), or 120 million (USA), then the numbers get rather large - maybe we have one or two power stations just generating electricity for all those LED lights across the country.
The parent was wanting to obsucate the fact that he was visiting sites that he would rather not have google knowing. But as another commenter noted, the hash would still tell google which site he was visiting. And the next commenter on this thread will note that a compromised commercial server can also be used for phishing. So maybe if both the IP address and the URL were hashed and then encrypted together might provide a secure method. But the result must be unique and separate for every combination.
Hallelujah!
You can't show a heart pumping in a book. You can't show a sterling engine in operation in a book
The geeky/arty guy in my science class use to draw these little flip-book animations on the corner of hit notebook pages.

And some companies just chuck their developers as soon as the product starts shipping, thus saving the expense of paying bonuses in the first place.
It's also good for "who farted."
We just place lots of carbon dioxide and methane detector strips on all the walls and chairs.

Wow, how many others of the three digit crowd are still around?
Higher densities would double or triple demand on a single node.

It's still being developed - the transcription service could very well eat into IBM's voice recognition markets.
that there weren't any mistaked carried through to the final results. Today, this would be the equivalent of parallel processing techniques.

It does't take too much skill to figure out how to switch a router off, or to switch off the power supply to a satellite dish farm.
Maybe there is some way a communications satellites could boost the signal so that ordinary mobile phones could be turned into satellite phones?

If you do the extraction as the same time as you are doing desalination, then there might be some shared cost-benefits.
