I recently tried to get a few Linux distros running on an old Celeron 333 with about 128MB of ram. Not a single distro was usable for basic web browsing, email and word processing (open office, abi word etc). Its a fucking joke that unless you wind back to a crappy old version of KDE its absolutely not usable on anything less than 3 year old machine. Stuck Windows 2000 on it eventually and thats what works. No linux distro is ready for the desktop, i can't find any that work on old hardware, and no I do not call using Windows 3.1 grade software 'working' on old hardware. I expect a modern browser and word processor, I expect a window manager that more than 3 other people use. Ok I guess this is a fault with KDE not Linux (well most distros that fit on a CD use KDE) KDE sucks, it sucks majorly, its slow, its resource hungry and they waste time on 'skinability' when they haven't finished the basics.
Everything said there is totally available today, its just costs more money. If people are prepared to spend more money (which they are not) then they can get what they want.
I would feel the same way if my own country had been the first. Its not an anti American thing its just how the world was back then - if not then why did they do it? why didn't they use the bomb another way?
Any kind of fork, distribution, customisation etc of any project must happen for a good reason. If it does happen then it should follow the structure of the system in such a way that lower level updates and improvements can filter into the forks. For example using libraries in a project means you're not re-inventing the wheel and any improvements to those libraries can filter through into your project. The same is true with distributions, using the same package manager and window manager for example. There might be two or three commonly used window managers because they all have different goals, some are better suited to PDA's, some to novice users etc.
When forking or distributing re-invent the wheel or serve no purpose then its clear that the developers didn't have the fore-thought to properly justify or plan the project, these developers need the experience of screwing up like this before they are ready to work on the 'main' forks or distributions. In short, if you make a stupid distribution for no reason you are just not good enough yet so its not like people are missing out on your skills, but it will certainly teach you a lesson and probably give you an insight into how the theory of the system that you developed works.
The Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was _purely_ for show. In fact you could say it was terrorism. There's no reason another place couldn't have been chosen or perhaps a demonstration arranged for the world. There's absolutely no reason to bomb civilian cities just because they contained factories (lets not forget, conventional bombing raids would have been able to take out those factories and leave many homes intact). It wasn't a case of needing to take them by surprise - a dummy bomb could have been dropped to prove a point. Purely military targets could have been chosen, why were little kids burnt to their clothes? Why were innocent people shredded with flying glass? Why were 1000's of people blinded just because they were looking in the wrong direction? It might have been necessary to use the threat of the bomb to end WW2 but it could have been done another way. Remember this is the age where black people sat at the back of the bus, its not a far cry to imagine war planners saying "who cares about the jap kids, let the little bastards burn"
Place your index finger on that pad please sir.. BEEP! Im sorry sir it says here you stole a bag of Doritos when you were 13 im afraid I cant let you in, next please. Oh hello Mr Atta, welcome to Disney Land.
I guess the question is do people have a right not to know something? Is it acceptable to protect information being leaked if it could ruin peoples experience reading a kids book or should everyone just accept the fact that their plight is slightly less important than the basic tenants of human rights?
I think the more realistic approach would be: several spare notebook batteries and a surge/spike protector plus a cigarette lighter adaptor. Plus GPS accuracy varies accross the world and might be intentionally reduced in some areas so he should probably have some way of checking it with existing maps.
What is it with Australian law? seriously we need to take them over properly and sort this mess out. Although what with EU and all its not like the UK is perfect either.
One of my dreams in life is to one day see the faces of the Saudi Arabian royal family and the other oil tycoons around the world when they realise their oil is worthless and everyone is driving efficient and clean cars. Not that I don't respect them for making shit loads of money, im just jealous. Although with the SA royals its more disgust as they are equal to the dirty shit that builds up around the side of a pig, but now im getting off topic..
There's still lots of hurdles to pass to make hydrogen the choice for fuel but it seems to be getting there slowly but surely..
Clients never ever want something that is universally compatible, intuitive, functional, AND good looking regardless of extensions or security settings.
Why should the archive even honour robots.txt files? Its just like a news paper printing a screenshot of a website for example to show that it had been defaced. These guys are suing not only the archive but also the people who accessed it, now that really is ridiculous. I really doubt Healthcare Advocates of Philadelphia actually believe that what they are doing is right, they're just doing it for the money.
This isn't news this is bullshit, Cannon already do this except the print head is separate from the cartridge AND the printer which is much better - otherwise you have to buy a new printer if it goes wrong, and that brings us neatly to where HP wants it to go...
I don't agree with the death penalty at all, but one thing that is absolutely out of the question in the west is the death penalty for non-murder crimes, you just don't do that. Seriously what kind of message is that? Killing is ok as long as you only kill people who have killed others? - and now killing is ok as long as you only kill people who have caused very very expensive damage? The idea is absurd.
Really? because I heard that in some crazy police forces they spend allot of time concentrating on things like murder, rape, assault and burglary. Sometimes they even waste time going around looking for so called 'gangs' that are only trying to have gun battles in the streets. As long as there are no cannabis plants around I think society might just be safe!
This is pretty sick, and unless they signed something or accepted some terms and conditions when they opened the book im pretty confused as to how this is even legal?
Do said 'eco-terrorists' plan to use professional demolition procedures and ensure the area is fully clear of people, and that everyone is warned through adequate signs and loud-speaker messages at least 1 hour before a final check by safety crews, and do they plan to use adequate detonation equipment with guarded switches etc operated by a certified technician? If not then they are endangering lives so you could apply the 'attempted homicide bomber' label.
Yes, because I like looking like a prick. Seriously, make them look like normal glasses or no-one will buy it. Not that I trust wearable screens anyway, it just seems a tad too potentially eye-damaging so I think I will wait for a few years of people burning in the technology..
The word bomber refers to someone who kills with explosives - eg "The Omagh Bomber Faces Charges"
The phrase suicide bomber refers to someone who kills with explosives but also dies in the same explosion either to evade capture or to make sure the bomb goes off.
So what are homicide bombers?
Oh and while we're on the subject, since when did the Department of Defense also do attacks?
C/C++ will always be used in the most cutting edge power-hungry programs, which generally means games. C/C++ will also always be used to write libraries and drivers and low level things. However in the current market its far far more beneficial to be able to have rapid development and alteration as well as platform independence. For most programs it doesn't matter if they use lots of memory and CPU power because system resources are much cheaper than programmer hours.
Unfortunately most people don't think about the consequences of anything. If fingerprint recognition grows as a technology its likely we're going to see more of this, which is why I believe its a basic human right not to be forced to use fingerprints to identify yourself. Fingerprints belong in crime investigation only.
Anyone who is too scared to go on the tube can just not use it. That way, only brave people who are not swayed by terrorism will use the tube network and thus the terrorists will realise that its not a useful target because no-one who uses it is scared of terrorism!! Same applies to buses and just generally walking around the streets.

As much as I hate to accept it, that's very true. Being educated is a divide and as any economist will tell you, divides = demand = supply = profit
