I find installing programs under Linux easier most times. I can run the install through the terminal and I can check the output. On Windows in most cases I don't even know what is happening. If I am lucky I can find some log files somewhere.
I have many games that gather dust, but I like the peace of mind that if I want, I can go back to some game. With subscription models it could be that the content depends on region, someone can decide that the game is offensive and remove it etc. I like to travel and I bought the switch for this reason. Most of the time the connection in the train will be so slow that even opening this site is difficult, let alone stream media - music, games, movies. Not so long ago Nintendo stopped support for the Wii. There many people who prefer to play NES games on the original hardware, who also buy CRTs. There are a lot of reasons to chose the old way - go and buy the physical game. Why are these big companies so greedy? Don't they make enough money?
Given the fact that Black panther was nominated for best movie, I would say focus on nominations rather than fighting Netflix. Nothing wrong with comic book movies such as The Dark Knight, but nomination for movie of the year? How come Blade Runner 2049 wasn't nominated for best movie?
I just read what people write and don't take the rating so seriously. It is very subjective - you can work in company ABC with a good team on a good project, but someone else might have landed in a bad team, working on a boring project. I'd rather go to meetups and ask people around.
Today I received a message that the web version of Skype will not longer be supported on Firefox and I should switch to Edge or Chrome. In theory I can install Skype on the Desktop but they change the interface far too often and make the application run very poorly. Will companies stop supporting browsers that are not based on Chromium in the future?
I used the Google service for taking out all data. I got an archive of several GB. But most of the information was photos, emails and videos from YouTube. The only sensitive thing I saw was Google chrome bookmarks (I use Firefox btw) and autocomplete. I don't use an android phone. But I doubt that this information from the takeout archive is the only thing they have.
Firefox updated itself to 57 and made tabs impossible to see again.
They broke that quite a while back, but before 57 you could use "classic theme restorer" to make them visible again. But 57 stopped it from working and there is apparently no fix.
So had to switch back to 56.
And then they also brag about a lie on their website "Set up Firefox your way. " when you cannot even set tab borders anymore.
Click hamburger menu on the right > Add-ons >Themes>Light. It is not intuitive though. One of my colleagues updated and his browser is blue as his Windows theme is blue. Mine is black.
I like the new version as it is much faster. I use RSS and usually in the morning I click open all in tabs (usually 50 tabs) and the browser gets very slow. I notice that Slashdot pages load a bit faster now. But let's hope speed is permanent and it is not due to browser restart:)
Being a slow reader, how do you guys manage to read more than 4 - 5 books a month? How do you find interesting books worth reading? Right now I am reading - "Astrophysics for people in a hurry" and although I find the book interesting, I know most of the stuff already and think that "A short history of nearly everything" is way better. Having read Sheckley, Asimov, Clark and others, I find it hard to find new sci-fi that is original and interesting. I think of reading the "Wheel of time" series, but I guess it will take me a year the least to finish it. Maybe having too many hobbies is preventing me to read more.
I have used many phones with different operating systems - Symbian, Windows (old and new), Blackberry OS, Android and currently iOS. The iPhone has the most unreliable battery during winter overall. Was in Warsaw this weekend and used the navigation app. At one point percentage came down from 50% - 60% to about 30%. I went to hotel plugged the phone to charge and saw 50% again. During the summer the battery meter will gradually go down in winter it is very hectic. Sometimes during winter I will try to take a picture with battery in the 30% - 40% range and it will shut down. I will go home plug in the phone and see that i still have 30%. A friend who has iPhone 6 reports similar issues during winter.
I still buy music on CDs. Quality is better when listening on good equipment and I always have the option to rip CDs for the times I go running or hiking (I don't have Spotify on my iPod shuffle).
I agree that not only are most ads annoying, but they are useless as well. Last evening I was watching some guitar reviews and an advertisement about a guitar capo came up. I haven’t clicked on an advertisement in a long while. I found the product interesting and new. I would rather have an option to set that I enjoy gadget and music advertisements, instead of getting tracking cookies.
When I went to buy a mp3 player suitable for running there were several choices and all of them were two times cheaper. But two colleagues told me how they used theirs for several years and they were going strong. I was very skeptical, because I use Linux at home and this meant that I would have to switch to Windows just to transfer music. The other negative was that I couldn't switch songs in a convenient manner (no display). Some years later I think it is one of the best purchases I ever made. I am running in very cold weather, in very hot weather, fog, rain. I have never experienced any issues. The physical controls are a very big plus and the layout is perfect.
I have been doing concert photography for several years. I shoot with a full frame camera that doesn't have built in flash (I have an external one, but flash photography is not allowed anyway). I am required to leave my camera after several songs. When I try to shoot with my iPhone I notice several things - very slow shutter, very slow focus, very slow startup time. I don't want to compare the sensor and the lens. When we are talking about pictures in daylight I have noticed something else - a white borderline around the edges in some cases, which to me seems like an over sharpening problem. Maybe the bokeh effect of the iPhone seems good enough to some people, but to me it doesn't. The closest to a DSLR killer are the mirrorless cameras. The best phone camera in my opinion is the Pureview 808. But again it was very slow.
When I do sports outdoors I use the Shuffle MP3 player. Can't imagine carrying my phone on my arm. At home I have quality headphones and I listen to CDs.
Some time ago my phone slipped out of my pocket and fell on concrete. As I have the iPhone 5c, the plastic on one of the corners chipped away. I thought that it wasn't a big deal and I could replace the panel very easy. I ran a query on YouTube and saw a video, which was close to 2 hours with a very detailed explanation on how to disassemble and assemble. Needles to say - I decided that I don't have the patience to go through the whole process. My previous two phone were a Blackberry and a Lumia 525 none of them had this problem.

Trevelyan: And you won’t sell it?
Zuckerberg: No, of course not.
Trevelyan: Just to be clear, you’re not going to sell, or share, any of the information on Facebook?
Zuckerberg: We’re not going to share people’s information except for with the people that they’ve asked for it to be shared.

Why is it possible to enter a negative number for the years of experience?

I have heard the same thing.

Good fix. But I use WiFi at work as well.
