It is harder to install drivers than under linux and widows(combined) I don't like to see icons appear on the desktop when I put a cd in. I found no use for it, its not free, and its annoying.

The only thing I liked about be is that it boots in 2 seconds.

the only hardware accelerated implementations that depend on glide are the 3dfx implementations. I am very happy with my tnt. no glide for me.

M$ doesn't control OpenGL. so there is a toolkit away from M$. Writing a diffrent glide implemantation for each card is just as hard as writing register level OpenGL implementations for each card. Besides the windows OpenGL versions of glide are specific to each card.

    1. Star Office on the new glibc won't work - lots of hacks are required to get it to work.

Star sucks. it makes a windows enviroment inside linux and can only be used by who installed it. also it is Star's fault by linking to internals of glibc. This is linux not windows. If you want to link to stuff you are not supposed to and keep compatability make your product for windows.

    2. Gnome 1.0 is unstable (core dumps galore - and slow gnome startups)

I'll have to disagree with you there. if you have an old .gnome in your $HOME delete it. Otherwise we are must be thinking of diffrent things.

    3. Annoying enlightenment bugs (e.g. clicking on the gnome panel won't raise the selected window)

  18. This makes me think of Star Office on MS writing Internet Explorer for Linux? · · Score: 1

Star Office as we all know is a popular office tool for us linux users. I tried it once. I installed it as root. Then I couldn't run it as anyone but root! When I did run it it brought up a windoze type screen including a desktop and window borders. It was almost as ugly as windows. That's what I'm thinking the port of ie will look like in Linux. You have to run it as root. It will emulate a windows desktop. It will stick channels on the desktop. Ask if you are sure you want to go to slashdot. It would make a $HOME/.microsoft directory and then write a registry to it. Only run as root. Hopefully none of this will happen. The best that I could see happening is if they used gtk to make the port write human readable configuration files etc... but what are the chances of that
