I think the statistics you quote at the end ar probably flawed. If you compare vegetarians to the whole population, I am sure they are healthier. Just the act of being a vegetarian makes you conscious of what you eat. Now if you compared a group of vegetarians to a group of health conscious meat eaters, would there still be a disparity? I wonder...
At least have the respect to know the language you are bashing.
Yes I have been to php.net, give me perldoc.com any day of the week.
No, I am not going to bother writing my own DB abstration layer. Now I have heard about Pear DB, which makes more sense, but I still don't know why all of those database specific functions are in the core language.
No one but a retard uses print statement after print statment to output html. Like I said, at least know what you are critisizing. Besides, if you have an area where embedding is perfect(simple variable substitution) There are numerous template and embedded perl modules that you can use.
I am probably biased because I learned perl first. However at work I use both of them(perl and PHP). And consequently I hate PHP with a passion. I dislike the monolithic approach. I like CPAN where I can bite off one module at a time, get its documentation all in one place, and get my head around it. In PHP I find my self wading through oracle database calls to find docs on basic functions. Speaking of database calls, why is there zero abstraction in PHP? why do I have to find and replace every function call to change databases.
Also I think the embedded nature of PHP, while handy in simple cases, encourages people to mix up program logic and presentation.
And of course my favorite, you can't beat using the CPAN shell to install new modules.
I don't know about performance, I haven't seen benchmarks on mod_perl vs. PHP, but if you think most web apps are hindered by program runtime, you are looking in the wrong place for optimizations.

That's bull. How is chess harder than the turing test? It has pretty much been proven that brute force calculation can win the game of chess. We still have very little idea of how to beat the turing test. I would say the chess is infinitely easier than the turing test...
Granted I haven't actually developed using Kparts, but this kind of idea sounds like something that could be done with KDE component tech. Can multiple Kparts work on the same document?
Because a tar and backup of/etc is really difficult. Besides, the whole point of Unix is that you can seperate admin functions, so that admins don't step on each other's toes.
I am a little sick of articles and comments that bash current GUIs for being derivative, without coming out with new ideas. It all fine and good to say that we need something new and exciting, like the GUI was to the commandline, but it hardly does any good to complain about there not being something new if you don't present your ideas on what the new paradigm should be.
The most creative thing I have seen are 3D desktops, but those don't seem to be a major improvement over virtual desktops. I guess the next big thing should be computers that you can converse with(not neccessarily with spoken speech) and just tell to do a job, which would be great if we could do it.
I guess I am just tired of people complaining about WIMP derivatives. If there were better viable ideas out there, we could do them, but I haven't heard any.
If anyone would like to enlighten me as to what the next paradigm should be, I would be happy to encourage and help it's developement, otherwise stop complaining until you have an epiphany.
The question to ask is weather she would have be able to set up the printer in windows? Maybe yes maybe no. It is important to remember that many task in windows, like installing a printer are made easier because of vendor support in the form of a quick start card and easy to install drivers. These are not parts of the OS and unfortunately there is not much that can be done, its just the usual chicken and egg problem.
How exactly does a directory of text files get corrupted? Is finding something in the registry faster than grepping files in/etc? Is exporting some keys easier than copying a directory from/etc, hoping that you found all of the keys in the registry? I'll take text files any day...
I'd have to give that a maybe. I wouldn't want to do extended typing on it, and depending on how picky you are about your gaming keyboard, it might throw you off. Unless you need something roll up and water proof, you can do much better.
Admittedly I am not a fan of big laptops. If you need to take data around, get a usb/firewaire HD. If you need a portable work environment, you can get an 800Mhz 256MB 30GB laptop in a sub 3 ound.75" thick form. For presentations a 3 pound laptop and a 3 pound projector so the job better than a 16" laptop screen anyway.
Do you love the SNES pad so much that a usb gamepad won't do? I was about to build an adapter for a PS gamepad before I realised I could get a nearly identical usb pad.
I used the keyboard shown on thinkgeek. They are pretty neat. The keys actually have lots of throw so accidental presses are not a problem. The only weird part is that resistance is equal all the way down until you hit the table underneath, a little jarring. As a plus they are also personally tested as waterproof. We used it for a navigation computer on a racing boat.
How does a rack mount allow you to do this minimal connection stuff any easier than a tower? If anything you would have less expansion availible for things like wireless net.
I think either way you are going to have to put the same amount of energy into it. Remember that the generator puts a good amount of load on whatever is turning it.
Although it does refuse to display a filename in all lowercase, its always First letter uppercase, and the rest lower...
Is cleaning a pot which had boiling water and pasta in to that hard?

How exactly is mozilla the core of konq?

I'm pretty sure it isn't neccessary to search out the -whole- search space of possible moves.

Actually venti should translate to 20 in you mind... and in Italy
'A Farewell to Arms'. I remeber that as being on e of his more depressing, especially the end.
What kind of images are not Graphic? That would be a little redundant, no?
God, I hadn't thought about that game in years!! I was just happy to find Maelstom for linux.

Transmitting electrons doesn't count? damn...
Well when factories and farms were shut down in the past, people generally just starved, not rebelled, Mao can do no wrong of course.
