Maybe not think debris. But I remeber seeing satellite picture of the smoke trail going miles, like 25-50, out into the Atlantic. It was certainly bigger than you describe.
It doesn't seem like he was neccessarily looking for the OS community to work on the project, just that he would like the code to be availible OS after the contract is finished.
What over-population issues? Current numbers indicate that in the worst case scenario( reproduction doesn't slow down wuickly enough in africa and mid asia) the world population will max out later this century. I can only reffer you to Julian Simon.
Just saw this stury on the News tonight. Pretty funny story. The guy is glad no charges are being pressed( for trespassing and impersonation, he dressed up as a construction worker ). Of course this is hollywood, so he made a documentary about his crusade to do CalTrans job for them. He encourages others to go fix things that are wrong, sounds like someone who would fit in OS.
Shouldn't the size of OpenOffice be: (Assuming There is about the same amount of code in each module) 4*(Size of one module)-code eliminated by shared libraries. This would indicate a fair comparison of OpenOffice being 4-5 times as large as Abiword. Why is it twice as big as this would suggest?
Konq has this. Mozilla has a feature where if you type in something, there is a drop down that lets you search google ( or whatever you pick ). Best part is that you don't need to edit registry keys.
I liked the scene in I think Tommorrow Never Dies when Bond is being chased down a road by a helicopter. The kicker is that the helicopter is pitched about 45 degrees forward, so its blades are tearing up the little market stands lining the road, and yet the helicopter is going about 10 mph. No broken blades, no acceleration, weird.
Why does it seem like, lately every Ask Slashdot question is along the lines of "Uh.. I have to do something for work/school... Not really sure where to start... What do you guys think?". It seems to me that questions should be posted only when they are interesting. Its not like useful info ever comes out of these questions anyways (Atleast nothing a google search wouldn't tell you).
P.S. I have a pascal compiler due for school. Anyone know where I should start?
Is this really neccessary? I thought the purpose of slashdot was wo pick up stories from around the net, not from slashdot itself! Ever consider that some people have the apple section on their frontpage, so we see the review, and then a story pointing us to the review, fucking retarded...
Upgrading is a lot easier with a source based distro. Versions ( of the distro ) almost don't matter. Its more like a continuous flow of up to date software.
I would also highly recommend Sorcerer Linux, I have been running it for about 3 months now. I upgrade to KDE3 about a week ago and it has been great. The value of running a stripped down system cannot be overstated, overall system response is better, and running Moz1.0rc1 the day after it comes out can't be beat.
All of that said, now may not be the time to jump in. There was a big shake up in march and things are only now settling down. After a new install ISO is released however, I would give an enthusiastic go ahead.

Another option is to report the vendor to Pricewatch, they are pretty good about making their prices legit. For instance the tighter requirements on disclosing shipping cost they have had for the last 6 moths or so. It used to be that hardly any of the ads had shipping listed and shipping ended up being over $20 on a $100 purchase... for ground.
If you are looking for a high end laptop, I would definitely check out Dynamism. They have great service, and offer some very cool machines. There comparisons are purely spec based.

I have to say, I did wonder about spiderman's mask when he was unconscious...

Considering that the signs were good enough that no one noticed for nine months... If they weren't they are certainly well crafted.

Wouldn't Paratheses matching ( and highlighting ) count as syntax highlighting?

You should be able to disabl only onLoad() popups so that when you click on a link that generates a popup it works.
Who says that people involved with Linux care about Stallman's crusade?
Please define: A Good day for M$ on Slashdot.

My favorite was Tom Cruises ability to keep the bike uupright with the rear wheel fully locked.
Oh, and also the ablility of the bikes to change from road slicks to knoby dirt tires in the middle of a chase ( gotta get me so of those ).
Yes the current price of Berkshire Hathaway stock is definitely right around zero... ( Check BRK/A )
Stock prices are a little more complex than you suggest.
One, I was joking. Two, I have the dragon...

I'm pretty sure the origional quote is in Latin, in which case the word order hardly matters.

This is a little more in depth than just matching strings in headers. This is about determining the topic of and email.

I think last time the Intel compiler was discussed it offered significant performance benefits ( read more than 10% ) on both Intel and AMD chips.
