But I don't think I'll be buying from them. Real enthusiasts build their own.;) Still, I look forward to seeing what they come up with and at what price. Especially in the laptops.
Of course, I think the difference might be that in the case of the folk painting an incorrect picture "for" global warning will do less damage to all of us (and the planet...) if global warming is not real, than groups promoting an incorrect picture "against" global warming will do if global warming is real.
Arr! Ye landlubber, yer clearly funded by one of them anti global warning groups! Don't believe him, me 'earties! Let's keel haul the bastid, Yaarrr! Who be wit' me??
I always find it a little sad when I see folk from the US critising the UNs ability to perform when:
1 - The UN has to operate on a miniscule budget compared to, for example, US military spending. (I think somewhere around $10 billion dollars a year - c.f. $440 billion military spending by the US in 2004)
God YES! I was just about to post about civ and civ 2, then I saw you beat me to it.:) Though I haven't played it in years, civ 2 still sits right up there amongst my favourite computer games of all time. It really did rock to an insane degree. IMO SMAC (Sid Meier's Alpha centauri) came close to equaling the experience if you want something more recent.
There's definately something to be said for games that exercise the old grey matter - they ARE more satisfying.
meh, this comes up in every firefox discussion. Yes, no doubt many people download firefox more than once. But there are also those of use who carry it on a usb key\cd\share\whatever and install it multiple times from a single download (I do so myself.) So what's your point? The fact is number of downloads, while no doubt not accurate, are still a good indication of the popularity of it.
Also, for anyone who thinks updates of firefox count as another download (as someone always seems to bring up in these discussions as well), they don't.
Mmm, except Mozilla didn't "drop" IDN. The original/. article had that wrong, as did the submitter of this story who just regurgitated from that. In fact they set the default to disabled - but it's still there and you can turn it back on if needed (in about:config network.enableIDN I think). In addition their advisory on this had the following to say: This is obviously an unsatisfactory solution in the long term and it is hoped that a better fix can be developed in time for Firefox 1.1.
Of course if it's an audio file, mp3 for example, you can also reencode it to a lower bitrate at one end, then rereencode it back to the higher bitrate at the other. Lots of folk used to do this sort of thing in ye olde days of Naptster and so forth. Ayup. Yehaw.;-)
Game developers don't use OpenGL on PS2 or GC, so OpenGL doesn't get you anything there.
My understanding is that the PS3 will use the embedded version of OpenGL for rendering though. Along with a range of other open standards. Perhaps some of the other consoles will follow suit too.
Perhaps nothing more than a rumour, but I read somewhere that Blizzard originally wanted to make a warhammer game, couldn't get the rights from Games Workshop, and thus was born the whole *craft series.
A quick google reveals almost nothing on this, so no link to back this up - perhaps it was bollocks, but I definitely remember reading it somewhere... *shrug* Perhaps someone else knows more?
Well shit, this seems like pretty good free advetising for these guys. I'd stop complaining if I were them...

Goodluck.

2 - The US consistently refuses even to contribute it's very small dues to this amount. This is not something new, it's been going on for a long time. (Just look at the 1995 UN Financial crisis)
bah

If they really wanted to disrupt things, they should delete the dupes. Isn't slashdot without dupes a sign of the apocolypse or something?
One word: Steam.
Ah, you're right - just tested this on http://www.shmoo.com/idn/. Even better then! :)

Yeah, explaining the joke sucks, but for the one or two folk still scratching their heads:

But yeah, from what I've heard it's just an urban legend.
That was the best line in the whole movie :-) "I know this, it's UNIX!"
But what they should was a "file system navigator" that is real:
3D File System Navigator for IRIX 4.0.1+
