  1. Here's a great idea... on Is Linux Dead? · · Score: 1

In light of all these accounting scandals, thousands of layoffs and billions in retirement funds pissed away due to the Enron and Worldcom debacles, Arthur Andersen should take a page from MS's book and buy their *own* little piece of the NBC news machine to add their "unbiased" spin to everything. I can see the headlines already!

I, for one, think this is a great idea. A game console and digital VCR all in one. I'm *really* hoping that this will give us the ability to import actors from TV, movies and commercials into video games.

Afterall, why should Austin Powers be the only one lucky enough to beat Britney Spears to a pulp...now you can import her into the fighting game d'jeur and beat-in her talentless ass or import her into Halo and blast her to smithereens!

Where would we be without MS? Imagine a best of breed OS that evolved from the best aspects of OS/2, BeOS and Linux, all three of which would have had mainstream support and decent marketshares years ago if the OEMs weren't scared shiteless of retaliation from MS.

Well, if they're not terribly skilled with computers and save to the hard drive because it's the path of least resistance, make the fileserver into the path of least resistance.

Go around to each computer and go to the settings of each production level program that you use (ie Office for argument's sake). Set the default save directory to that of the mapped drive letter of your NT server. When they go to save files, the save dialogue will use your fileserver as the starting point.

I'd just like to take a moment to clear the air.

When I started this piece of the thread, I was not making direct comparisons and trying to align the causes of Napster users with Am. revolutionaries, abolitionists, etc. I was merely providing examples of people in the past who have bucked the system. This was in no way meant to provide any justification for the activities of Napster users.

I could have just the same not included any examples and simply said "history is made by those that follow their hearts rather than happily complying with the system." Apparently by including examples, certain people have misconstrued what I was trying to say.

    Everything Jesus did was illegal.

The Boston Tea Party was illegal and involved stealing.

The American Revolution was illegal and would be considered stealing from the king.

Freeing slaves through the Underground Railroad in the 1800s was also considered stealing and illegal.

See a pattern here? In the grand scheme of things, history has been determined by those who followed their hearts and did what they felt was right, rather than following the orders of another man.

Yes, but there was what I perceived to be a major product placement in the movie. No, not the cars, because every movie has cars and in this particular case their brands weren't made prominent.

I am speaking of the one scene where Dormer is in the lobby of the lodge he's staying in and is talking to the lodgekeeper. She's typing up something on her computer and what do we see? The back of an LCD screen with a *HUGE* Proview logo on the back. It brought back memories of the OJ trial and Judge Ito's Thinkpad with the larger-than-normal IBM logo.

  23. Re:selling out *cough*Sugar Ray*cough* on Homogenized Music · · Score: 1

The same thing happened with Sugar Ray. Their first album, Lemonade and Brownies, was a really good hard rock uncompromising type of album.

Then Floored came out in 1997 and I was still impressed. "Fly," which probably became the song they're best known for, was in the second album. It was a gentler type of song, but it provided a nice break in the rest of the album, which was very hard still.

Sugar Ray's third album was their "sellout" album. I had my brother burn me a copy of his CD so I could check it out. I couldn't stomach more than 10 seconds of each track; they all sounded like bad knock-offs of "Fly" from the previous album. One "gentle" song amongst a hard rock album is fine, but ka-rist! this was too much. That burned CD was quickly microwaved.

Sugar Ray may or may not have had a fourth album come out...I wouldn't know because I stopped paying attention to them when they stopped being creative and sold out.

There already is a version of The Sims for Linux. If you buy the Mandrake Linux Gaming Edition, it comes with The Sims.

It's actually the Win32 version that has been modified a bit to work with Transgaming's WineX...so it will work under Linux with WINE, but not under Windows because the code has been changed too much. I'll sell you my copy if you want.
