And some rube will buy one based on that statement.

  5. Any good NES clones out there? on The Reality of Patent Expirations for the NES · · Score: 5, Interesting

I've seen the Polystation and similar systems pictured in TFA at one of the souvenir shops at Penn Station in New York, as well as in some of the electronics shops on 8th avenue. For about $50 bucks you get about 100 games built in, so it's a good deal. A friend of mine has an NES clone built into a clone of an N64 controller that outputs to the TV...it also includes an extra controller and light gun that plugs into the main controller, along with 100 or so games. For $35, I bought a Yobo NES clone at the local flea market. You can get the Japanese version from Lik-Sang for USD60. No built-in games, but I don't mind staying partially honest and picking up some old carts for $3-$5 a pop.

Of course, the best part about the NES knock-offs is the hilarious the packaging. "Best Quality" "Super Graphics" "Super 8-Bit Technology"...usually spelled wrong, and abound the box. One particular box had Spider-Man 2 promotional movie graphics and the device was labelled as Spider Game. Infringing upon Nintendo and Marvel IP...now that's some balls!

Are you sure? My Dell laptop counts as *two* computers for the purposes of iTMS authorization: 1. my home login and 2. my corporate domain login. That's under Windows XP anyway, perhaps OS X is a little more intelligent about it.

You can authorize and deauthorize computers any time you want (up to 5) by selecting the "authorize/deauthorize this computer" menu option. Or are you saying that after 2 years one could have 10 authorized computers at the same time?

Maybe offtopic here, but from what you're saying you'd probably like the comic book "super anti-hero" Diabolik (imagine a cross between Batman and Tyler Durden, if you may). The only reason I even bothered to mention this is because your subject line is also the name of the theme song from the 1968 movie adaptation...the best movie adaptation of a comic book ever, IMO.

iPods don't run iTunes, either. They use a program called Portalplayer, which IIRC, is owned by Sun. A more accurate statement is that the ROKR is compatible with iTunes and songs purchased from iTunes Music Store.

  14. Re:Another Yahoo Vs. Google story? on Yahoo! Plans to Connect Services With Tivo · · Score: 1

The standalone HD Tivo comes out in 2006. They are waiting for the CableCard 2.0 spec to be finalized, which IMO, is the right thing to do. CableCard 2.0 truly allows you to replace your cable box with Tivo since you'll have access to on-demand programming and the other interactive features of digital cable service. CableCard 1.0 is half-assed--it will let you decode the premium channels and that's about it.

  15. Re:But how will it know...? on Yahoo! Plans to Connect Services With Tivo · · Score: 1

You can program your Tivo over the web now by logging into tivo.com. The system is passive...in other words, your Tivo unit is not running a server. It simply logs into your account at tivo.com at regular intervals to see if you've left it any recording instructions.
