Maybe you'd rather they buy you a Mac and give you all the software, including the source, for free? Or better yet, they should give you a Mac, PAY you to use it, and give you all the software for free. That will really help Apple thrive...
Bus speed is not the limiting factor, especially not with AMD's x86 implementations. Memory *latency* is the biggest problem with high speed memory, and TCCD's are known to clock fairly high while maintaining low latencies.
The word stranglehold isn't trolling; it is an observation of fact. The OP didn't make an judgements about whether or not said stranglehold was a good thing. I also didn't detect a tone of 'bitching about it' in the post. You, sir, need to take a huge gulp of lighten-the-fuck-up:)
I didn't consider that. Back before I had a house I lived in a series of apartments and none of them ever restricted the use of window air conditioners. That would really suck!
Those upright models are supposed to work OK. Good luck:)
Yes, all true, but there are things that take points away like living in Mom's basement, having pasty white skin, and living off of caffeine and doritos.
All I got when I first clicked on this was 'Nothing to see here. Move along'. Something about that just doesn't add up.
Seriously though, I've been against giving calculators to grade school kids for a long time. It's all part of the dumbing down of our society. Let them learn how to do math properly, then teach them how to use a calculator when they start studying higher maths that actually need one.
There are genetic components to intelligence just like there are genetic components to athletic ability. Take two people with different genetics and have them follow the same workout. They will not be equal in speed and strength. The same is true with regards to intelligence. You can study and work all you want and chances are there will still be someone smarter than you who may not even have worked as hard.
Of course, if you read the actual article and paid attention to the summary, it was the Supremes that denied the recent petition for a writ of centorari...but that's probably asking too much of someone who has nothing positive to add to the thread so instead decides to nitpick (and get it wrong to boot).
No. Rather it's both were influenced by the original dark roots of the whole mythos. The campy Batman of the TV series was never how Batman was in the comics.
That I agree with. I have used Solaris and it is a very powerful OS. My only quibble was with the 'Linux alternative' part.
By the time Solaris gets to the point where it is open and has all sorts of drivers available, will Sun even still be a player though? Linux adoption is growing by leaps and bounds along with it's capabilities. Solaris adoption is at best static and is probably in decline.
Then again, Sun could always pull a SCO after they open everything up. Wait a few months then claim 'Look! Those Linux hippies are stealing our code and ideas!'. Yes that's a joke and not a likely scenario;)
'as an alternative to Linux, it doesn't yet deliver
Does anyone actually think it will? It looks like a fine upgrade for shops that are already heavily invested in Solaris, but I highly doubt that Solaris 10 (or 11 or 12 or 25 for that matter) will ever really be a 'Linux alternative'. Why would anyone using Linux go for a closed, proprietary Unix flavor? They cattle are stampeding in the other direction and will continue to do so.
Easy! Put the suspended person in a refridgerator! Then again...that might only work for a couple of weeks before mold sets in, judging from my own fridge.
Ok, I'll bite. I went out to store.apple.com and speced out one with maxed out options. $1222 is what I got. It all depends on what options you want...
I guess you've never seen bash or ksh for Windows then.

Wow, I should have looked harder. Here is one that would cool a small dorm or apartment and it's only $76.
Seriously, especially since for about $120 you can get a low end window unit.
It was a JOKE guys. I know black geeks, asian geeks, white geeks, all colors. It was a JOKE based on the stereotypical geek...

That sound you just heard was a tounge in cheek joke whizzing right over your head.
Indeed. That's what I get for posting on 2 other forums while writing that post. I deserve any razzing I get for such a newb error :)

You're talking about this discovery.
Same here. I used to use REXX (and later VxREXX) all the time when I was doing OS/2 systems engineering.
Remember that this is the same man who thought the Internet was a fad that would go nowhwere, and that MSN was Microsoft's online future.
Very few of his predictions have ever been accurate. I'm surprised that Apple's stock didn't go UP when this bit was published.
If you'd actually read the article, he used a Win2K license that he says he had laying around. He's not even running XP, so your point is offtopic ;)
YHBT YHL HAND
Seriously, the guy is trolling. Give it a careful read. It's riddled with tiny innaccuracies. I doubt the story is even remotely true.

What if Mr. Goat-Se or something even worse gets a hold of a video camera!!!
