My brother is with the 101st and just got home last week. He was able to get access via an Internet Cafe near the oil refinery he was stationed at, especially after he rebuilt their LAN for them (free access for him from then on!)
Thank you, thank you all for what you have done and what you'll be asked to do in the future. As a couple of others have said, not all of slashdot is left leaning.

Ah, and that is exactly the attitude that is holding Linux and OSS in general back.
Public perception DOES matter, dimwit. Unless you want Linux to forever be a niche OS on the desktop that is. Maybe you do, and you're entitled to that opinion.

YOU might not assume those things, but Joe Public will. It's all about perception. And if they catch the perp and he DOES turn out to be a linux zealot, it will taint the whole community.
Just because YOU have some sense and intelligence doesn't mean the press or the public does.
OpenOffice has nothing to do with GNOME. It doesn't use any of their framework or integrate any more than it does with KDE. So why do GNOME claim it as their flagship office product? Stick with your Gnumeric et al.:)
Maybe because it does the job well and they didn't have to reinvent the wheel? Still, I agree that it's good to have choices out there, so the improvements to KOffice are only a Good Thing.
Not necessarily. It's still up to the hardware manufacturers to implement it on their hardware, and then either provide drivers for said hardware or publish their specs as well.
Hello fellow Pittsburgher. I live in the North Hills actually. I also met my wife online. We started as friends and didn't get romantic until we'd met in person and friendship turned into more. We've been married for over six wonderful years now.
She wasn't a computer geek really, but she worked at a University so had Internet access before most non-geeks did. I'm glad she did!
Oh you mean if I download an Open Source Tivo alternative, the project team will buy me the computer and TV card to run it on? Neat! I'm going to grab MythTV right now!!
Think a little next time:)
I also didn't say that OSS PVR's were a bad idea, just that they were not a threat to the business model.
RTFA, they aren't sure it's just the caffeine. Decaf had a similar, but lesser, effect. It could also have something to do with all of the antioxidants in coffee.
Well, I can only speak from experience, but in one year I went through 2 Linksys routers, both dying in different ways. I switched to Netgear and haven't had a problem since.
What is innovative? They are returning samples to Earth, the first time any automated probe has done that and the only material gathered direct from the source since the Moon landings!
You, sir, are an idiot. Driving is *usually* simple, until a deer runs in front of your car, or someone cuts you off. People like you get other people killed.
I can multitask with the best of them and even I don't make bold, baseless claims like this.
There is already native Windows XP for the Itanium.
Off topic but Karma be damned...
I for one welcome our new Sofa King Overlord!
Have you ever read InformationWeek? They seemed pretty clueless last time I read....
Pssst...that was the joke...shhhh don't tell anyone!
...that Information Week would get slashdotted? Shouldn't these guys know enough about IT to setup load balanced clusters for their servers?
You are obviously humor impaired, your replied to a joke knocking Windows for being slow with a Gnome bash?
;)
Hint: Have your morning coffee before you post next time

Evil tyrannical governments kill people.

Luckily the Americans invented "saving Europe from itself" as well.
;)
We all make mistakes.
Go ahead, mod me down. I have the karma to burn. Anti US comments get modded up, but anything anti Euro gets modded down, even it it's true

Hard to ignore when you have SCO lawyers demanding to see your emails and other private documents...
Yeah, you're right. It's not like anybody ever used a GOTO in BASIC...

so now we're going to change it to angels, i hope?
No. That would offend the Pagans and the Satanists.

Exactly. It was a bit like saying 'OMG, did you know there are kits out there that people can build cars with??? Liquidate GM!
