It'll always be more expensive to send people up, at least in the near term, but we will need to send up a lot of other things that could be done in unmanned launches using this or another innovative technology. Ideas such as this could work; it's merely an engineering problem at this point.
I would imagine that any search of a lawyer's laptop could potentially violate attorney-client privilege. That may be one reason why they are looking for lawyers as plaintiffs. If the searches are voided on attorney's for any reason then the equal protection clause might take effect and void them for others as well.
I guess it depends on where you live, but having food and water stored isn't always useful. In the event of a disaster, you may be required to move quickly. Will you have time to gather supplies?
That's what a 'go bag' is for. One should always have several days of food and hopefully water in a ready to grab package such as a backpack.
If you do not always have at least one (preferably at least four) weeks of food and water handy then you're daft anyways. We've grown so complacent and soft. I'm not a survivalist per se but we keep plenty of food stores and several gallons of potable water handy in case of a natural (or even unnatural) disaster.
As for getting to high ground, well you chose where you live:)
Windows Geek Gun - Looks sharp and advertises all sorts of 'new' features. However, one in ten times when one pulls the trigger the gun fails to fire and instead jams.
Linux Geek Gun - Good looking but also utilitarian. Very reliable but unfortunately the typical user of this gun is in the habit of taking it apart and rebuilding it often. In those cases it is unusuable until it's done being re(compiled)built.
Mac Geek Gun - Sleek, stylish, and very easy to use, but one has to buy bullets from only one manufacturer. It also only allows itself to be fired in certain directions because the manufacturer knows best.
DOS Geek Gun - A single action revolver.
CPM Geek Gun - A musket.
Give me a break. It's 4:00 AM EST here right now and I couldn't sleep so I'm not as sharp as I should be:p
I've actually enjoyed many of your posts. They are often insightful. That being said, you DO seem to often mention both your gender and your sexuality quite often. We get it and most of us don't give a shit whether you're a man or a woman, gay or straight. Get over it and move on:)
Photoelectrochromic windows and the like have been around for quite awhile. Using OLED's for that effect would be pointless IMO. Wrong tool for the job.
Except that "everybody" as you put it does NOT work hard.
I have a very hands off management style. As long as I get reasonable results I don't care if my employees talk about sports or surf the Net. It's when it gets out of hand that I have to step in, such as two years ago duing March Madness when everyone was more interested in the pool they were running than in doing any work.
As with many things in life it's about balance. People shouldn't be worked like robots or slaves, but when they are getting paid a wage that they agreed on to perform a function it's not out of line to expect that function to be carried out and carried out well.
It was more on an entertainment magazine than a science magazine really. I always prefered to get my Sci Fi straight up via publications like Analog, but I found Omni to be entertaining often enough in my youth. It really was more Sci Fi than a true science mag though.
Woooo, business programming. Believe it or not, there are a few applications out there that require performance and cleverness rather than strict convention. I think that a myth of software development is that every line of code should always be simple and easy to understand. Sometimes things are complicated, especially in performance applications
GP never said that (re:bolded text), and the point you are trying to make makes a strong argument FOR clear, concise comments on code. Good code isn't always easy to read at first glance and appropriate comments are important in any project with more than one programmer.
Imagine adapting this type of technology to other forms of input, such as a thought controlled dictation system. Imagine how much more someone like a Hawking could accopmlish.
It's not Amazon that would be paying sales tax. The buyer pays the tax. Amazon just doesn't want to a) deal with administering separate tax rates and payments to multiple States and b) have it's perceived prices increase with the addition of tax.
The funny thing is in general I agree with your view on taxation; it's just that in this instance your argument doesn't fit the issue.

Some people enjoy the social experience of going to a movie in a theatre with a friend or friends. I highly doubt OP needs 'hand holding' as you suggest.
More people on/. should get out of Mom's basement and socialize in the flesh it would seem.
Quite right. GP also referred to the CoS as 'mainstream'. There is nothing mainstream about them. Most other countries don't even recognize them as a religion. They are a money making / power grabbing scheme dreamed up by a second rate megalomaniac science fiction author that has now taken on a life of its own.

Don't be. He must be lying. Everyone knows /. geeks don't have girlfriends.
I kid! I kid!

I'm just randomly speculating and no IANAL.
Now THAT sounds like a plan, my friend, and a sound one at that! Cheers!
You forgot about the quadriplegics and paraplegics. We need to chop everyone's limbs off too.

We weren't on the topic of weapons. Trust me in that we (my wife and I) are both well armed :)
If you have skills or useful gear to bring to the table we might share some food with you though. Otherwise...well 'nuff said.
I plan on eating the vegans first. Grain fed and all that jazz, not to mention that they are more likely to be pacifists and will thus be unarmed.

How do I make sure I'm legally in the clear without hiring an expensive lawyer that my indie developer budget can't afford?
You can't. The worst thing you can do is what you're doing; going to a bunch of random armchair lawyers on the Internet.
If you're that worried, get a lawyer or do a different project.
(mostly because we're culturally expected to back down to men)
I wish someone would tell my wife that!
Sorry. Couldn't resist. I really don't wish that. I prefer a partner to chattel.
Yes I know, I'll get modded offtopic. Don't care.

GGP failed at QM because quarks and electrons are *not* singularities.

To me it's a matter of choice. I should be able to choose to run as many background applications as my [insert device name] can handle if I want to.
