My wife has worked for more than one University and let me tell you that the waste across the board is horrendous. This is just a drop in the bucket but yet another example of short sighted wasteful spending. Meanwhile, tuition continues to go up at a rate that greatly outpaces core inflation.
If I were a pilot, that's what would keep me from actually using a small plane to get around -- because unless my business was at the airport, I'd be stuck.
Yeah it would be great if they would invent some way to rent a car. Oh and before you give me the spiel about small airports having no rental counter, most rental companies will deliver to your location.
Well put. I really wish I had mod points for you. I can't believe anyone even considers the layout/UI of a portal to be a contributing factor in the stability of their lives. Want stability? Code your own personal portal page...or maybe get a life!
I find it amusing in a dark sort of way that anyone even thinks it's OK to buy a phone that has to even be 'jailbroken' in order to have any measure of freedom with it.
Your Senator is supposed to represent your State, not you. The 17th Amendment basially broke that though. You would have been better looking at how many people were in your Congressional District, which is represented directly by your local Congresscritter.
You're the reason the economy is tanking! You must consume and spend lots of money! All this irresponsible zero expenditures are the cause of all our woes! Oh I'm sure the overspending by Congress plays a small role, but you are just plain EVIL!!!
That's not the point and it was just one example. Also, by the time we made that 2 mile drive the line of cars stretched back a mile; it's a very high traffic road. Speed limits are there for a reason and it's just plain rude to go 25% below the posted limit.
Not just weird; dangerous for reasons other posters have cited.
Hypermilers are starting to get really annoying. I was behind a person the other day who refused to go more than 30 in a 40mph zone on a road where one cannot pass. The line of cars full of unhappy people behind me got to be very long just in the short 2 mile trip to Home Depot. If that were not bad enough, she took a good half mile just to get to 30.
Driving with an eye towards fuel economy is all well and good. I pay attention to my realtime MPG readings when I'm on the highway. That being said, if one is so concerned about milage that one is going to drive in a way that impedes or endagers others then one should just stay home or take other means of transportation. If you can't afford the gas then don't buy it. If you think you're doing some great altruistic good by reducing your emissions, please sell your car and get a bike.
It's not necessarily poor implementation as much as it is trying to use a hammer to turn a screw. Like you said, DSP's are made for the job. It wouldn't cost all that much to put a little DSP lovin' into a subnotebook in the form of a co-processor.
Wow, I can certainly tell that YANAL. IANAL and even I know you're incorrect. In most jurisdictions the majority of Universities have to abide by varying degrees of data retention rules. Just because some don't doesn't mean it isn't required. It's required of the White House and we've all seen how well that works out too.
It's hardly a lie based on just your experience. I had the opposite experience; any text message I've disputed has been taken off by Sprint and they were quick and courteous about it. Then again, maybe you approached it with the same tone you used in your post. You get a lot farther if you're friendly and professional about it. Then again, maybe you were nice about it and you just had a bad experience. It happens. For the record, ALL US mobile carriers suck pretty bad.
They deserve to live with their results, be those increased performance or broken components. Saying they deserve busted components is like saying someone who soups up their car deserves a blown motor. Both endeavors, done correctly, can boost the performance of the tool in question. It's not hurting anyone, so why the sour grapes? Never were quite able to get the CPU overclocked so you want everyone who tries to fail?
I am not an MBA but I would hazard to guess that AMD Fabless and AMD Fab will have some sort of contract in place guaranteeing a certain level of capacity.
Meh. Try both sides. Dirty politics is a non-partisan endeavor. You don't have to look very hard at all to see good examples from both sides of the aisle, unless you yourself are a partisan and refuse to admit it.
The 'upgraded' ECU software on my car has a 'Valet Mode' that limits the maximum speed. I can also plug my laptop into my OBD port and set the governor to whatever max speed I want. It's nice to see it as a factory feature though.
Not really. By decoupling it makes it somewhat easier for the fabrication company to fill it's production lines by making chips for other fabless companies. It's not quite a move of desperation or some kind of accounting trick as you seem to imply.

Given the Conservative Party's historic disregard of public opinion
The public didn't have to elect them. You get what you pay for.

Up through the 70's most markets, even most large ones, had the 3 networks, PBS, and one or two independant channels on UHF.

I've got a baaad feeling about this.

Phillips showed one off back in 2004. A very quick search turns up several good examples with varying features and capability.
That won't stop the Apple fanbois from drooling and going "OMG STEVE'S SUCH A GENIUS!" and acting like Apple invented it, though.
The iPhone has 2.8% market share as of August 2008. It's not even close to being the #1 smartphone in the US. Keep drinking that tasty koolaid though.
Don't feel bad. At least she didn't write Daikatana.
Killian's is owned by Coors, not AB. Fail.

Where do you stand on the current tax laws in the US? What about offshore oil drilling?
Oh...so sorry...it said 'Things that matter'...games really don't.
Try the turn of the 19th Century. Look up the Adams vs. Jefferson election if you want to see really dirty tricks.
Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
