    This. I can no longer play Half-Life 2 after my nephew said some stupid things in chat in TF2. I paid for the game. I should be allowed to play it!

    Don't let other people use your account. That would have solved your particular problem.

    here's no doubt that the Slashdot community is one of the most thoughtful, intelligent, and prolific communities on the web.

    The really sad thing is that it used to be so. I've been here since the beginning, though I didn't sign up for an ID immediately. This used to be the go to site for news for nerds and stuff that matters. Not only has the level of discourse dropped precipitously but the quality of content has as well. Most 'breaking news' stories that I see here are ones I saw days ago on other sites. The editors are a joke and do not even bother to try editing anything. I'm willing to give the new owners the benefit of the doubt, but I really can't see how they can fix any of this.

    I was speaking in terms of firewall performance and features. I pretty much expect them all to be compromised in some way these days.

    They should be phasing those out regardless. Netscreen devices are EOL. Too many people are still using them. I know I have actively encouraged clients to ditch them. Unfortunately the Juniper SRX firewalls are crap, at least the low end/branch ones. The big iron is alright but still doesn't compare feature wise to Check Point, Palo Alto, Fortinet, etc.

    They are not asking for any financial compensation. They are doing it a) because they can and b) because the troll had it dismissed without prejudice, meaning they could file again.

    Don't forget that it also helps protect you. Ads are a common vector for drive by malware attacks.

    Among many ignored assumptions, did this post take into account the carbon emissions of building such a grid?

    Construction equipment doesn't run on lithium batteries.

    While you're correct, the long term benefits would most likely more than make up for it. This kind of massive infrastructure project also helps the economy; another side benefit.

    They won't, and that's deliberate by the phone manufacturers and carriers. They want you to keep buying new phones every 1-2 years.

    I know you're joking, but sending nukes to attack a civilization with engineering advanced enough to build a Dyson Sphere or other mega-structures would probably be like ants developing the technology to throw grains of sand at relatively low velocities at us.
