That "unowned" land is mostly unarable mountains, desert, and scrublands. Some of it is good for grazing, some of it is good for mining, some of it is good for forestry - and is being used as such already via leases. The rest is not really good for anything, and none of it is what could really be considered arable.

Why then does the gun control utopia of Chicago have such high rates of gun violence (but only some areas oddly),

The gun control laws in Illinois are undermined by the complete lack of them in Indiana. Also, the "some areas" where violence is more common are areas of concentrated poverty. It's not news that concentrated poverty leads to high crime rates.

... while there is a low rate of violence in places like... Plano, TX, where getting a gun is easy.

Because Plano is a pretty wealthy town with a low rate of poverty and essentially no concentrated poverty. Interesting that you chose that city as representative of locations where getting a gun is easy, rather than say, Beaumont, TX or Anchorage, AK.

Point 1 allows congress to pass laws allowing regulation of communications companies. Point 2 is such a law. So far, so good. Where you run into problems is that neither point bars states from enacting more stringent regulations.

If it doesn't give the Feds that power, then it certainly doesn't take the power away from the states. Pai is trying to eat his cake and have it too.

I believe him. I haven't either in my 35+ years of heavy listening. I did have one break outside of the jack when I was about 12, but it was on really cheap headphones that I abused the hell out of. Other than that, the device the jack/plug was in failed long before the jack/plug itself.

Bottom line: the 1/8"/1/4" audio plug is probably the most universal standard that we have seen in consumer electronics. Almost every device made in the last 75 years uses some variation of it in some capacity. It does what it needs to do, and it does it better than any of its potential replacements. The idea that it needs to be replaced is ridiculous.

That little adapter that comes free with iphones isn't a big deal.

I do lots of field recording. I have a great M-S stereo microphone that plugs right into the lightning port on an iPhone. It works great. BUT ... you want to monitor what you're recording. That means headphones. But the lightning port is already occupied, and the latency on bluetooth is a deal breaker.

For my purposes, the little adapter is indeed a big deal, as it doesn't allow for the functionality I need. Yes, I know that there are adapters that expand the lightning port to lightning and 1/8", but they don't provide the physical stability you need for a microphone.
