Polarized contact lenses really wouldn't work. Since they're not rigidly mounted you can't keep them from rotating in your eye. Polarization is very rotation-sensitive (that's about all there is to it, really), so you'd probably end up holding your head at a very weird angle to see anything.
Fill in that fourth wall and line it with plastic... hot tub, baby! Just get one of those waterproof laptops, and you're set. Maybe invite that cute girl down the hall for a "meeting" in your "office".
I also tend to be that kind of guy... people always come to me because they know I'll have the tools.
Here's the inventory of my cargo shorts:
black and blue ballpoint pens
black Sharpie
watch, modified for pocketwatch duty 99% of the time
glasses case
beatup old locking pocketknife
mini-biner with 3 keyrings
lighter (not that I actually smoke)
black electrical tape
paper copy of my address book
wallet
belt pouch with:
Leatherman Wave
Mini Maglite
Networking scissors
#2 Phillips screwgun tip
D-cell Maglite belt loop (doubles as a hammer loop
...and, of course, ample room for food, drinks, or whatever else I manage to pick up. Everything stays in the same pocket whichever pair of shorts I'm wearing, so I always know where to find the right tool, even with just one hand.
I used to have a Palm, but it was too fragile to survive my life for long, and too heavy anyway. They need to make a PDA that's durable and flexible enough to go in your back pocket, opposite the wallet.
BearShare, one of the more popular Gnutella clients (for Windows anyway), also wants to install a bunch of advertising/promotional programs in its default install. I'm not really sure what they do, because I always do the custom install, but they're there.
The main problem is that these things are installed by default when people just click through the install program quickly, but it's really not hard to avoid them, and they are probably even listed in the Add/Remove Programs control panel.
One way of looking at it is that this is the cost of this new generation of freeware.
Didn't Winamp have the same sort of problems a few versions back? They had to release a new version of the WMA plugin in a 0.01 version, just so you couldn't use it with the Disk Writer plugin, because MS threatened/complained at them.
This setup should work just fine. I have right now a system ripping CDs (slowly, but surely) using cdparanoia (click here) and bladeenc (click here) on a P133 with 16MB of RAM and a 4x SCSI CDROM under RedHat 6.1. Having the SCSI CDROM helps a lot, as it uses much less CPU time, allowing you to reasonably encode at the same time.
Then again, it's hard to take seriously any organization whose constitution contains the words "Secretary of Coca-Cola"...
Yeah, but C++ is an official language. This place could become a geek homeland, except for the fact that it seems to be running on NT: "It is an honor, priviledge and right of every citizen familiar with HTML, Java, JavaScript, VBScript, COM objects, IIS filters and ASP applications, as well as music, video and photo digitalization process, to participate in building of Cyber Yugoslavia."
But at least they have a webcam updating every 15 seconds so you can look at das blinkenlights on their server rack. Maybe if I keep an eye on it I'll be able to see the fireball when the aliens vaporize it with a highly focused beam of energy.
The other Glasstrons, for computer use, are here: http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/prod ucts/av/glasstron/ They have 832x624 resolution, and support HD15 as well as RCA inputs. However, they're $2600 as opposed to $800.
Another cool feature is the viewing mode adjustment. Apparently there's a shutter, so you can close it for movie viewing or such, and open it so you can also see what's going on IRL, which would be more appropriate for wearables-style apps.
Y'know, looking at the picture, doesn't this remind you a whole lot of the chick from Neuromancer, with the built-in silver sunglasses? Get these surgically implanted and you're set!
No, those are Grans (I'm pretty sure). The ET senators are pretty cool, I cracked up for a bit when I saw them on my 5th showing. I'll have to look for those Wookies when I see it again some time. That's one of the things I love about movies with computer graphics: the artists can throw in some "Easter Eggs." I'm sure a lot more of these things will show up when TPM comes out on video and people can hit the pause button.
I disagree. I saw TPM 7 (yes, that's SEVEN) times on Wednesday, and had a chance to really consider some of these things.
Anakin's mother said herself that she couldn't explain what happened; this would not be true if there was a father, but she just didn't want to acknowledge him or didn't know who he was.
This mystery of Anakin's origins is something that I hope will be explained in the next two movies. Either that, or Lucas should make parts -3, -2, and -1 of the trilogy (I suppose it's hard to have a part 0).
In the Jedi Council, Qui-Gon says that it is quite possible that the mitichlorians conceived Anakin, as is said in the Prophecy of the one who will bring balance to the Force.
Follow the lead of Homer Simpson and just get an Easy-Bake Oven...
I'm on a team: you're given the route 2 hours before the race starts.
Reminds me of the completion of the Radioactive Man movie after Milhouse runs away...
"Seamless, eh?"
"You're fired."
"... and with good cause!"

Is it just me, or does the card at bsdmall look exactly like the RealWeasel PCI, only $175 more expensive?
Or, conversely, to tell Joe Schmo the filing guy that his crashed hard drive comes behind Mr. VP's screensaver issue.
Yes, but you see, that was fiction...

Man oh man, how do you get that kind of bandwidth for that kind of money? What ISP are you using, and where? Sounds like a pretty sweet deal.
Z80? (TI-85/86) or 68000? (TI-89/92)
Just curious...

Here we go:/ camcorder/camcorderacc essories/plm-a55_specs.shtml

HELP! Slashdot is busted! The above link should NOT have as space in "plm-a55", and doesn't as I write it, but the preview has a space there. Get rid of that space, and send a nasty note to CmdrTaco.

If you check out the actual sony specs (at http://www.sel.sony.com/SEL/consumer/ss5/portable/ camcorder/camcorderacc essories/plm-a55_specs.shtml), you'll see that the actual resolution of each LCD is 800x255, on a .7" LCD. The input is a standard NTSC RCA plug, so I don't know how they fit the 4:3 aspect ratio into this resolution.
