    I'll only comment on your 2nd source as the others are worthless. Have you actually read the report? You should, it's very interesting. It uses the same statistical "analysis" that was used to come to the conclusion that women earn 30% less than men. Broad aggregates are not useful for much else than pushing an agenda. If you think i've misread the study, please let me know

    Even if they did completely open source windows, office, azure and everything else, gave all their money to Linux and became nonprofit, I'm sure the slashdot crowd would find a way to see it as not being enough

    Sure. And black people (males especially) cost more than white people. I challenge you to use a pricing structure based on that statistic, I'll be ready with the popcorn I guess the real question is: how good at statistics are companies allowed to be before it's no longer acceptable?

    If you want a terribly slow web app that's limited to the speed of your internet connection, sure, do that. Bonus: you get to screw over the people on metered connections and kill the battery life of mobile users as well while doing this

  16. Back when people wrote code in Objective C it was easy to have some Objective C for the iOS UI, some Java for the Android UI and a big gob of portable C/C++.

    This was never the case. While technically possible, no one ever did this. Have you actually ever done this yourself? Its an absolutely terrible experience, especially on android. You will likely spend more time wrestling with the JNI layer and the oddities of the Android NDK, than you would simply writing 2 completely separate apps. To be fair the Android NDK has improved a lot since but i think its safe to say that only a very small minority uses this approach I think you realize this since a moment later you say so yourself:

    And doing the 'big gob of portable C/C++ with two sets of UI code is also horrid.

    Why was this contradictory mess of a comment modded up? Not to mention this blanket statement with no explaination:

    Xamarin has always seemed a bit horrid to me frankly

    That's a very comforting thought to have. Unfortunately the people who believe things like this are usually actually just too stupid and have too poor communication skills and THAT'S why they're disliked. Very few people have the honesty and insight to admit this to themselves

    Those are some pretty bold claims, especially the first two paragraphs. Do you have any studies or sources that agree with you? Because to an outsider, it sounds very much like just a defense mechanism from someone who feels misunderstood in the world

    It's kind of interesting, the social expectation of a man to be strong in every situation. It's understandable and IMHO a good thing both for society but also for the men themselves. Still, I can't help but feel a little saddened that it has reached a point where men are not able to reveal any vulnerabilities to anyone, ever, not even to the people closest to them such as their wife and friends.
