All it takes is one idiot, though, to bring down an entire company. I haven't seen one of these viruses to my personal email account but at work we've seen a handful of them come through. It's better for us to alert the uninitiated than to hope we don't get a virus.
I picked up one of these at the local Best Buy on clearance. Seems that no one really wanted to pay 300 bucks for a streaming mp3 stereo component. They are clearanced for about 150 bucks now and well worth every penny. The boys from the former Empeg group (Empeg mp3 car stereo) now work for SonicBlue/Rio and are planning on firmware upgrades to fix the little "quirks" of the box. Namely it only reads 7000 mp3s and only 250 mp3s from one artist. The true test was to watch how my non-techie fiance responded to it. She knew I had a ton of mp3s but didn't know how to find them all on my computer. She fell in love with the Rio receiver the first day.
From a little blurb on the front page it looked like the original goal of the project was to remake most of the Phantom Menace with South Park characters. But Lucasfilm contacted them and said using, the originally planned, 64 minutes of Phantom Menace dialog was crossing the line of parody vs. plagiarism. So that's why the Park Wars movie is only 11 minutes long. But I suppose this post is just plagiarism of their site too.
I'm surprised that this hasn't been posted to/. yet but an actual CD/Mp3 player already exists: http://www.easybuy2000.com/store/products/mp3/mp3_ discman.html . In stock and everything. I've had mine for about a week now. The total cost was $117 US. Sure, there are some shortcomings to it (e.g. Directory skipping, ID3 tag reading) but the thing is just over 100 bucks. It's definitely worth the dollars I paid for it.
In regards to the Signal 11 reference: Yes, he has no life. Yes, he hangs on/. all day. Yes, he sends his highly moderated posts to everyone under the sun. Yes, he enjoys being a karma whore.
Yes BUT they've made a lot of people believe that it's fact. They've distorted what people believe. If a director can take a false story and make people believe it's true then he's done a great job.
Most people seem to be missing the fact about the 7 dead kids and Josh. The sounds of kids in the forrest was supposed to be the 7 dead kids spirits/ghosts or whatever. Those kids were dead. Same goes for Josh's screaming. "How did he scream if he was dead?" Well, how were there little kid voices out in the middle of nowhere? And was it really little kids shaking the tent? It was all done by spirits/ghosts.
People have become too analytical to the point that the "voices" being ghosts doesn't even occur to them because we all know "ghosts don't exist." Pretend they do and you would understand the film much more.
-Tangent- I saw Pi and though it was an interesting film I just couldn't figure out what was so special about it. I didn't understand the guy's frustration and I didn't "get" why he was going so crazy. Now with TBWP I had just come back from a weekend camping and I could relate well the actors and the fear of the unknown.
I've been waiting to see Blair Witch since April and I was blown away by the movie. It lived up to my personal expectations. BWP was the best independent film in a long while. I love to see such minimal films do so well. They successfully blurred fact and fiction. The theater was dead silent for the last 10 minutes. I will see it again! The directors/actors/etc.. defineately deserve the support. They had me shakin' in my boots.
Yeah, it looks like someone shoved a PCI NIC into the slot. Sure it might not need a special motherboard but it may need a different type of case...;) Seriously, if this thing works with my Abit BH6 motherboard I would buy it in a second. I'm kinda leary about the compatibility issue though. There has got to be some sort of weird requirements for it.
Count me in on Java problem. I tried many different versions of Netscape figuring it was the cause of the problem. Then I assumed the Java I was accessing was coded for Windows since the developers used J++. I'm glad to hear that others have had the same problems I have. At least I know I'm not crazy.
I still don't get this whole "MP3 Killer" thing. So what if the RIAA decides that record labels release electronic music in a protected format. What is going to stop Joe Average from buying the CD, encoding the songs in MP3 and up'ing them to the Net?
I just upgraded from the.49 client to the 1.0 client. The overhead on the client has defineately been lowered. It doesn't drag a system down as much as in the past. It is noticable but not as hindering as past clients.
The basic idea is that characters located in the corners are entered by drawing a straight line into it's region. To get the first character located, lets say, to the right of the upper left-hand corner, you draw a line into the left corner region and over one region to the right. To get the first character located below the corner you draw a line to the left-hand corner and down one region.
It takes a little practice to get used to and seems to be a faster way to input. But I think I'll stick to my conventional alphabet.

If you would check Iomega's site about the new Peerless you would notice that they have a firewire version in both the 10 and 20 gig configs.

Isn't this just another "CLAW" device just like the one here/a&g t;? How does this one differ from the CLAW besides it's marketing angle?
Let's patent the /. Effect.
"Large amounts of Interent traffic generated from page linking."
Huh. I kinda expected the article to be one sentence: "SETI has not found aliens because they don't exist."
Looks like the first X-File for the new season should be to figure out what's wrong with Fox's javascript on the X-Files press release page.

Actually the first financial quarter of 2001 starts in 7 days. Blues News had a good clarification of this issue in their news yesterday.
My guess is that the page was created in Frontpage...

Minidisc is *huge* in radio. The CD recording quality and ability to erase and re-write is quite attractive to promo creators.
I'm glad to see that companies are starting to think "outside the box." But where do I put my 5 pci cards?
Nice "flexible" design.

Humor does get points. I dunno if it should be separated from the "smarty-pants" comments but I do know that funny comments do get raised.
Yeah, there's still an upgrade option during the installation. I didn't use it so I don't know how reliable it is but the option is still there.
