Yeah you're a little out of touch. I'm a senior in college and everyone I know uses AIM, and has since freshman year. This includes both nerds and 'popular' people.
In fact the 'popular' people generally have way more contacts and seem to get im'd nonstop all day.
Check ebay, they can be had for $275+ on there. I'm guessing it's people buying them cheap through cingular and then unlocking them. I actually just picked one up for $285.
I know plenty of Christians who are rational, intelligent democrats. I think you mean to say radical right wing Christians who live in a fantasy world where it's ok to murder 30,000 Iraqi civilians but braindead people must be kept alive at all cost. In which case, they won't be voting for anyone but who their ministers/pastors/whatever tell them to vote for.
Kerry did not plan to "jerk us out of Iraq". Please get informed before voting next time.
He planned to persuade the UN and/or more countries to send troops (something Bush couldn't do since he has no credibility left), and train more Iraqis to take over security detail, so that eventually US soldiers could return home. In fact, Bush pretty much adopted this policy in his speeches towards the end of his campaign.
Since Mars has a different length day than Earth (40 minutes longer), the engineers are sometimes working very odd hours (since the rover is only active during daylight on Mars).
Aside from that I imagine they wanted to get it out as soon as possible since they have no idea how long its batteries will last, and it can't do any work while it's stuck. Perhaps they spent the off hours doing simulations and tests to figure out how to get it out.
Terrain definitely counts. My parents bought the honda civic hybrid a couple years back in SE Pennsylvania. The area is a little bit hilly and they routinely got around 46 mpg. Now they're using it around Tampa (100% flat) and are routinely getting 54 mpg.
Another major factor is driving style. Slow accelerations, gliding long distances to a stop, and not driving over 65 greatly improve mileage. Oh, and keeping the windows up + ac on definitely helps. It's easy to tell in a hybrid because it has a little meter showing you your current gas mileage for the current trip. It's pretty accurate.
Your 3 "articles of faith" there are fundamental to the existence of science.
We have proof that the physical laws of the universe are constant. We repeat experiments and predict the results. We repeat experiments under different conditions, account for changes in gravity, air pressure, etc., and can still predict the results. Often times we need to refine physical laws as our experiences broaden (Einstein refining Newton's laws to work for large masses/high velocities). But these laws are all constant everywhere that we have applied them, and until we see find that they aren't, why should we believe otherwise?
Your second point isn't really valid. You're saying science is invalid because the world is invalid. We are studying the world in which we exist, and it doesn't matter if it's "real" or not (because, in the end, what is reality if it isn't the environment where we exist?). In addition, human senses have developed to interact with our world. It is highly unlikely (if you believe in evolution) that we could ever perceive an "outside world". We have evolved to see a very small wavelength of light emitted by only some types of stars, hear sound at wavelengths that travels easily through the composition of air on earth, feel acceleration etc.
As for your last point...humans have developed incredible technology that works because it relies on the physical laws that we have discovered. Are airplanes, space travel, computers, or genetic engineering not proof that we can apply our minds to understand the world?
You delve into agnosticism in "The Ancestor's Tale." How does it differ from atheism?
It's said that the only rational stance is agnosticism because you can neither prove nor disprove the existence of the supernatural creator. I find that a weak position. It is true that you can't disprove anything but you can put a probability value on it. There's an infinite number of things that you can't disprove: unicorns, werewolves, and teapots in orbit around Mars. But we don't pay any heed to them unless there is some positive reason to think that they do exist.
Watch it again. The people in this aren't acting. I don't care how bad you think Mark Hamil or Natalie Portman were, they are still way above the level of these amateurs. It's like a movie full of Hayden Christensens.
Tyr is lawful good, I wouldn't call the US army that...
If you've ever read the Avatar series, Helm clearly shows his lawful neutral nature by not taking sides and simply following orders (from Ao), even though it led to the death of many of his fellow gods. Seems pretty close to most armies.
My group was similar to yours in high school... everyone was pretty normal. I think the difference is, at college, the only people you know who play D&D are the weirdos who do it in public or talk about it all the time.
Arguing global warming vs. global cooling doesn't work when you look locally. Climate change is a global issue.
"Global warming" does not mean that everywhere in the world it will be hotter. It means the average global temperature will be higher. For example, as ridiculous as that movie "The Day After Tomorrow" was, the idea behind it is true. If the ice caps melt, then the gulf stream will disappear. The gulf stream is the main reason that England and much of the rest of northwestern Europe has a temperate climate despite being so far north. So the fact that England's growing season is declining could suggest that the temperature at the poles is increasing.
Nader isn't just a victim of the DNC. In Pennsylvania, he's off the ballot because there were names like Mickey Mouse, John Kerry, etc. on his petition. It was thrown out because something like 20,000 signatures were invalid.
I was referring to the mood of the movie after the ring was destroyed. I was disappointed that they didn't include the scouring, but pj still successfully portrayed the sadness and loss experienced in war even with victory.
There was a general agreement among Academy members that best film would be saved for ROTK. The reason was that giving it to the third movie would be symbolic, and was meant to represent a best film to all three movies. It would have been overkill/unfair to give it to all three films for three years in a row.
Another reason why they might have done it is because just as Lord of the Rings is a single book, not a trilogy, the movies are also "one movie". They are all just a part of the same story, broken up because no one could sit in a theater for 10 hours straight.
Personally I felt that FOTR > ROTK > TTT. Fellowship strayed the least from the book, ROTK strayed too much (but they nailed the ending).
Maybe. However i don't know anyone who thinks pot kills, everyone knows that pot just makes you stupid. In fact, I would argue that most people think alcohol is far more dangerous to your health. Drinking too much can kill you, smoking too much pot can't.
Drugs like heroin can kill. It's a good thing that heroin is illegal. So comparing video games which don't hurt anyone, to drugs, seems to be doing an injustice to video games.

p roduct=1317 (it includes the $30 cable and software that you'd probably want anyway).
Also, here's one for sale for $350 http://www.simoncells.com/scripts/prodView.asp?id
The RAZR doesn't cost $500 anymore. You can get one brand new, unlocked for $300.

We have a MicroCenter in Philadelphia also, it's a pretty good store with competitive prices on hardware parts.

hmm, wouldn't dehydration be more of a problem than starvation?

there was only 1 bad actor in episode II, this entire cast sucks (not to mention they're all ugly).

I'd rather a president stick a cigar there than 150,000 US troops into an unnecessary war. But hey, maybe it's just me.

I think part of it is the fact that it's a Washington team, which kind of limits the amount of teams. But anyway it's just a fun fact.
how do you know? is there some database containing everyone's fingerprints and they tried to match them all?
i read it as sarcasm myself.
